When Fate Intervenes (Giselle and Anthony)

Chapter 19

The lifted corners of Giselle's mouth twitched slightly.

She had indeed said something along those lines.

However, Giselle swore to God that she only said that to make Anthony agree to the divorce as soon as possible. She had no intention of having a deep conversation with him whatsoever. Who in their right mind would want to do that with their ex-husband after getting the divorce certificate?

People would usually meet their friends and go drinking to celebrate the start of their new life.

Giselle had always been someone who kept her promises. Yet, she did not want to spoil her mood during such a wonderful moment for her. She quickly came up with an excuse.

"I did say something like that. However, I never promised to do it right away. Let's do that some other day when I'm free."

Anthony did not let go of her wrist.

"After you tricked me into signing the divorce papers and even disappeared without any notice, I find it very hard to believe your words now.

"You even changed your contact information. How am I even going to find you and make you deliver on your promise if you decide to take off again after I let you leave?" Perhaps it was because Anthony was a lawyer and how he sternly and objectively pointed out what she had done wrong, but for some reason, it made Giselle feel a bit guilty. Anthony was sharp enough to notice the slight changes in Giselle's expression. He continued with his tactic of persuasion.

"You wanted a divorce. I agreed to it even though I wasn't willing to proceed with it. The process may have taken a longer time, but you've gotten what you want in the end.

"I respected your wishes, and I even looked past the incident where you tricked me. I just want to have an honest conversation with you. Yet, you won't even allow me the chance?

"We were schoolmates for four years and a married couple for three years. Are you really going to be so cold and cruel to me?"

Giselle had gotten a little too excited after receiving the divorce certificate. She forgot all about how she was set on treating Anthony coldly from now on.

It was also Giselle's first time seeing Anthony look so meek and desperate before her. Her resolve softened eventually. She took her phone out.

"Fine. I'll give you my contact information. However, you can't send messages to me like you did a few days ago to disturb me.

"You need to watch your tone when you speak to me too. As for our meeting, we'll have a discussion and decide on the time later on."

Anthony worried that Giselle might soon realize what he was trying to do. So, he swiftly obtained her contact information.

Then, he let go of Giselle's wrist and followed behind her. As they went down the building, he kept nagging her.

"Then, you need to promise that you won't block me or delete my contact info. You can't ignore my messages too. Promise me that you'll keep your word." Giselle felt as though her ears were about to bleed with how much Anthony was nagging.

She responded impatiently, "As long as you stick to being a good old schoolmate and not overstep your boundaries, I promise that I won't delete your contact info!"

Anthony finally felt reassured after hearing Giselle say that.

He opened the door to the front passenger seat and gestured for Giselle to get in like a humble servant.

Giselle acted as though she did not see him and headed for the roadside to hail a cab.

As soon as she turned around, she could hear someone sighing behind her.

"Just because we're divorced, you won't even take a ride from me? How heartless..."

Giselle could feel goosebumps prickle on her skin. She quickly got into a cab and urged the driver to leave.

When Giselle reached Zoey's place and opened the door, she was caught off guard by the sounds of party poppers going off.

She could see the balloons and

flowers in the house, the snacks and

cake on the table, and a banner congratulating Giselle on becoming single again. Tears welled up in her eyes.

Zoey did not want to see her cry. She hurriedly placed her arms around Giselle and consoled her in a soft voice.

"Why are you crying on such a happy day? Hold back those tears! You and I are going to drink to our heart's content to commemorate this joyful day."

Giselle felt like she could finally release all of the emotions she had been suppressing at that moment.

She wiped her tears off by rubbing her face against Zoey's shirt. Then, Giselle nodded vigorously.

"What do you mean we'll drink to our heart's content? You can't even drink as much as I do!"

"Haha! The person who's abstained from drinking for three years after getting married dares to say that to me? We'll see which of us is a poor drinker today!"

"Sure! I'll show you clearly that I haven't gotten bad at drinking at all!"
