When Fate Intervenes (Giselle and Anthony)

Chapter 20

Giselle slept in until it was noon due to her hangover.

Zoey had already left for work. After having a simple lunch, Giselle took her bag and headed out since she was feeling bored. She decided to carry out some of the plans she had settled on a few days ago. Giselle got a fruit basket from the fruit shop downstairs. Then, she took a cab to the law firm to meet lan.

For the past two months, lan had done a lot to help with her divorce procedure. He also carried out his duties faithfully and protected Giselle's personal information well.

As the middleman, lan had helped pass on many messages between the couple. He probably had often advised Anthony as well, which contributed to Giselle getting a divorce successfully.

Many of the things lan had helped Giselle with were not required of him as her lawyer. Therefore, Giselle felt like she had troubled lan a lot. She decided to pay him a visit and thank him since she felt a bit bad about it. lan seemed to find it a pity after learning the couple had gotten their divorce certificate.

"Mrs. Grayson, why did you keep me in the dark back then?"

Giselle truly felt sorry for lan. While offering an apology, she corrected him.

"He and I are divorced now. So, you shouldn't call me Mrs. Grayson anymore. You can just call me Giselle if that's alright with you, Mr. Lawson.

"I didn't mean to keep you in the dark. However, as you already know, the two of us have been keeping our marriage a secret. I didn't want to make things hard for you, so I didn't inform you about it."

lan could somewhat understand Giselle's situation since she mentioned how she and Anthony's marriage was kept a secret. He did not try to pry for more details.

"You're right. It's all Anthony's fault. He shouldn't have kept it from everyone.

"I heard that you were old schoolmates. Wouldn't the issues between you two remain unresolved since you proceeded with the divorce in a hurry? Are you really not going to see each other anymore?" His question was the exact same one Giselle had on her mind.

Before yesterday, Giselle had made up her mind to cut off all contact with Anthony.

However, judging by the attitude he had yesterday, Giselle felt like it would be really hard for her to achieve that.

Besides the fact that they were old schoolmates, the thought of how she should explain to her parents about the divorce gave Giselle quite a headache.

With her parents' temper, they would surely try to meet Anthony and cause a ruckus. Before that, Giselle would have to warn Anthony and explain to him beforehand.

It seemed like cutting off all contact with him was only possible after Giselle had taken care of all these issues.

She felt like sighing as she came to the conclusion. However, she held it in.

"I was with him for three years. We never fought or got angry at each other before. The divorce

procedure's went pretty smoothly as well. We're not on bad terms, yet we can't go back to how things were before.

"I can't say for sure what will happen in the future. We may still keep in touch, or we may decide not to meet each other anymore."

lan was rather glad since Giselle had not decided to shut Anthony out of her life permanently.

For the past two weeks, Anthony seemed like he was close to losing his mind trying to prevent the divorce.

Anthony was lan's apprentice, after all. Therefore, lan was quite worried back then that Anthony would have a mental breakdown after going through the divorce.

Yet, judging by the looks of things, it appeared Anthony had not gotten himself to the point where all hope was lost. He probably still had a chance to turn things around

lan could not say for sure. Still, for the sake of Anthony's happiness, lan tried his best to put in some good words for Anthony.

After chatting for a while, Giselle soon got up and excused herself.

As lan opened the door for her, Anthony, who seemed to have appeared magically by the door, gave him quite a scare. lan patted on his chest to calm himself down. "What are you doing hiding outside my office?"

Anthony looked past him and stared intently at Giselle, who was inside the room.

As the realization hit him, lan swiftly moved aside to let Giselle out of his office. Then, he immediately shut his door.

Giselle was very surprised to see Anthony there too.

She had checked with lan and confirmed that Anthony was on leave that day before coming to the firm. Giselle was trying to avoid him.

Yet, Anthony must have somehow received the news of her arrival and made his way here.

Giselle had two more appointments after this. She did not want to waste her time arguing or bickering with Anthony, so she told him curtly to move aside.

After Anthony took two steps to the side, Giselle went straight for the elevator and down the building.

When she exited the building, Giselle found that it was raining heavily outside. The streets were flooded with water reaching the height of a person's knees. Giselle was momentarily stunned as she looked at the empty street.

She took her phone out and tried to get a cab through an online app. Yet, no driver accepted her request even after Giselle had waited for more than ten minutes.

What was worse, the rain grew

heavier. There was no sign of it slowing down. Even the weather forecast indicated that the rain would only stop around seven or eight in the evening.

Giselle wondered if she would have to wait there for six hours before she could leave.
