Chapter 14
Anthony was nearly at his wit's end on the seventh day since Giselle's departure.
However, Anthony finally came to his senses now that he was cornered to the point of no return.
Although the divorce cooling-off period was over, the divorce procedures still hadn't been finalized yet. Giselle still had to come back to get their divorce certificate.
After thinking this through, Anthony got back on his feet and started to get to work after a long period of depression. He requested to cancel the rest of his days off and went back to the law firm to find lan first thing in the morning. For the past few days, lan had been busy being the messenger between Anthony and Giselle. Anthony felt a little bad seeing the exhaustion on lan's face.
"Mr. Lawson, please tell her that I'll agree to the divorce. She can return to get the divorce cert done now."
lan nearly spat out his coffee when he heard what Anthony said. "Wait, you're agreeing to it? Aren't you going to try to get her to change her mind? At the very least, you've both been married for three whole years!"
"What else can I do now that she's refusing to even talk to me? The only thing I can do now is to agree to it. I can't possibly bring her to court over this."
lan sighed and shook his head in frustration when he heard Anthony's reply.
"If that's the case, I'll inform Ms. Lockhart about it. Don't be too sad over this, Anthony."
Anthony didn't say anything more. Instead, he turned around and went back to his own office.
He sat down in his chair, his tensed-up body finally relaxing a little. He was still thinking about the steps he should take and the procedures he needed to do afterward.
In all honesty, Anthony never thought of agreeing to the divorce in the first place. The only reason why he told lan what he said was that he wanted to see Giselle again. That was all.
If Giselle was willing to return to Jadeston, then Anthony would have another chance to try and explain himself to her.
She had liked him for ten years. If he could just resolve the misunderstanding between them, he should still have a chance at getting back together with her, shouldn't he?
...
Giselle was sunbathing at the beach when she received the text message from lan.
In the past week, she had visited and traveled around a few cities, completely stowing the divorce away in the back of her head. But, she couldn't help feeling suspicious when she read that Anthony finally agreed to the divorce.
He'd been pestering her non-stop for the past few days. Why would he suddenly change his mind now and agree to it so quickly?
Was he thinking of a way to trick her into staying?
As a precaution, Giselle then consulted lan about the follow-up procedures after this. She was speechless after learning that both she and Anthony needed to go in person to apply for a divorce certificate at the courthouse, otherwise they would have to resort to divorce litigation.
She was only trying to divorce Anthony, for goodness' sake! Why was it so complicated?
She figured she was going to have to postpone the rest of her solo trip while she went back to settle things.
Giselle let out a long, resigned sigh. She then put her sunglasses back on, went back to the hotel, and started to pack.
She took the afternoon flight back to Jadeston around 10:00 am the next day. Zoey had been waiting for her at the airport for a long time. When she caught sight of Giselle in the crowd, Zoey let out a loud whoop. "Giselle! You're sunburnt!"
"What do you mean 'I'm sunburnt'? This is called a sun-kissed color!"
Zoey felt relieved when she saw that Giselle could still laugh and joke around. She then brought Giselle home.
On the way back, Giselle started telling stories about her adventures while traveling in foreign cities, to Zoey's envy. However, Zoey was also concerned about Giselle's divorce process, so she asked her about it. "Did Anthony really agree to get divorced?"
Actually, Giselle wasn't too sure about that.
However, the main reason she came back today was to settle her divorce proceedings once and for all. So, she nodded her head in determination.
"The cooling-off period is over, so it doesn't matter whether or not he agrees to it. If he changes his mind all of a sudden, I still have the option of suing him, so you don't have to worry about me."
"But won't the divorce drag on forever if you decide to bring him to court?"
"It would, so that's why I'm back here now. It's better to resolve everything as soon as possible before something else happens."
