When Fate Intervenes (Giselle and Anthony)

Chapter 15

Anthony learned from lan that Giselle was back in Jadeston. He wanted to meet her at once but was harshly rejected. He felt a little disheartened. However, there was nothing he could do other than patiently wait until she came looking for him.

In the meantime, he went through the divorce agreement and the divorce property division agreement countless times and even bought a lot of things according to their old house's original decoration and layout. Anthony was still hoping that Giselle would forgive him. He would try to restore the old house to its original design and layout to give a sense that everything was back to normal.

The days passed, one by one, and by the end of September, Anthony finally received a call from lan.

Giselle wanted to meet him, but the venue was at the entrance of the courthouse.

Anthony felt his hopes being dashed to pieces.

However, he still went to meet up with Giselle, albeit empty-handed.

When Giselle saw that Anthony had appeared without a single document in his hand, she knew at once that he had only said he agreed to the divorce to trick her. It had been a lie all along.

Still, Giselle had expected it. So, she wasn't too angry. She only sounded frustrated and impatient as she asked, "Is this how you show your sincerity? By agreeing to a divorce and then coming here empty-handed?"

They hadn't seen each other for more than two weeks, yet as soon as they met, the first thing Giselle brought up was their divorce. A hint of loneliness appeared in Anthony's eyes.

He gazed at her without looking away, trying to detect any hints of sadness or other similar emotions in her expressions. Those were his only hopes of ever getting her back.

However, Giselle looked extremely calm and mild like a body of dead water. She didn't look depressed or disheartened either. In fact, she had had a healthy glow-up ever since she left, looking a lot more energetic than before. So, Anthony had been the only one feeling sad about the whole divorce. Was that it?

He felt as if a huge rock was weighing down on his heart. He could barely breathe. "Can we talk, Giselle?"

"Sure, after we've gotten the cert. I'll listen to whatever you want to say afterward." Giselle's direct answer sent the last of Anthony's hopeful thinking into the ground.

Anthony dug his nails into his palms as he spoke in a low, hoarse voice, "I didn't bring my documents with me. Can you come back with me to get them?"

Giselle rejected him at one without thinking twice.

"Go back by yourself. I'll wait here."

Seeing that Giselle wasn't willing to budge, Anthony tried a different excuse.

"Since you were the one who put things away at home, I don't know where to find them. It might take a very long time."

This was quite the truth.

However, Giselle had a feeling that Anthony still had one last trick up his sleeve. After shooting a message to Zoey, she finally agreed to go home with him.

She climbed into the front passenger seat. Then, the both of them fell into deep thought, each vastly different from the other.

Anthony couldn't stop himself from thinking about the scene when they went back to visit their old high school with huge smiles on their faces.

If Anthony had known that it would be his last time seeing Giselle before the divorce, he would never have left on his own. He would have accompanied her as she went through the past ten years of her memories. Then, he would tell her how he truly felt about her and get her to stay by his side.

But now that things had come to this, he had no one to blame but himself.

It was silent in the car for a long time. Anthony tried striking up a conversation with her.

"So, where have you been for the past few days?"

Giselle kept looking out of the window as she answered in a cold manner, "We're divorced. It's got nothing to do with you."

It was just a simple sentence, yet, it stabbed into Anthony's heart like a knife. He pressed his lips into a line as his eyes filled with disappointment.

"We've only just passed the divorce cooling-off period, but that doesn't mean we're already divorced. If you don't complete the relevant process within the next 30 days after that, the divorce application will be thrown out, Giselle."

Giselle had been taking crash courses on marriage law for the past few days. She knew the law by heart now.

She also knew that Anthony would definitely use this law to corner her. So, she didn't jump straight into his trap. Instead, she changed the topic.

"It's fine. Mr. Lawson, you don't need to fill me in on the latest marriage laws.

"I am curious, however, why you'd try to use it to threaten me so I'd change my mind. Are you perhaps unhappy with the property division agreement I drafted?"
