KADE’s Claim
Dad grabbed my arm and dragged me towards the lake.
“What are you doing?”
“Can’t you hear them?”
This wasn’t an ideal time to tell my Father that I had a mate. Kade must have believed I was dead. If he joined forces with Alex I can imagine how bad things got for him.
“I know them!”
“Not now Gabriella get into the water. Wolves hate water,” he ordered and shoved me two feet into the
water.
I hate water too!
Dad pulled out a silver blade as long as my arm.
“Dad stop!” I yelled as two wolves burst through the trees.
The black one which was Alex ground to a halt while my hot–headed mate didn’t stop to pull back his teeth all he saw was red. I doubted he saw the silver blade my Dad held.
The water yanked me backwards as I tried to run out and stop Dad from killing Kade. Dad ducked under the wolf and held his blade out. Alex watched in wolf form as the battle went on.
“Both of you! Quit it!”
Alex shifted into a naked human.
Kade knocked the blade out of Dad’s hand and I breathed a sigh of relief but Dad used an illegal back heel blow on Kade’s tail scrambling his senses instantly.
“Whoa! Erik stop!” Alex yelled.
“Kade!” I yelled.
His wolf stumbled and landed on his side. I wadded out of the water and collapsed beside him. I held his wolf in my arms, smoothing his coat.
“Who the hell are you?” Dad asked Alex.
Kade shifted back to human form and groaned.
*Fuck,” he spat.
“Hey, are you okay?” I asked.

“No,” he grumbled. “Are you?”
I shrugged.
I wrapped my arms around his neck from behind him and locked him in.
“Alex, Alpha Ruben’s son.”
Dad eyed Alex up and down before nodding. “You still had boogers in your nose when I left.”
Alex groaned.
“What the hell? Why would you come barging like that? Are you trying to get yourselves killed?” Dad yelled.
“We came from my mate!” Kade barked and lurched forward.
I held him back.
Dad stared at Kade then slowly moved his gaze to me I swallowed.
“No,” he said.
“What?” I squeaked.
“I said no. You can’t be his mate. You don’t have a wolf Gabriella.”
I swallowed. “How do you know?”
“I’m your fucking Father of course I know. You can’t mate any wolf.”
“Fuck you. You haven’t been her Father for years. Gabbie’s mine,” Kade broke free from my arms and closed the distance between Dad and him.
“I’ll skin you alive before that happens.”
“It already has.”
“Stop! Please.” I tucked myself between Father and Mate.
“Gabbie’s right. Look at her, she’s covered in bruises and cuts. She looks like a wet puppy. Let’s get out of here,” Alex said.
Kade took me in for the first time. I couldn’t imagine what was in my hair or how horrible my face -looked. My clothes were wrinkled and muddy. I wouldn’t be surprised if I found a fish in my bra.
“I’m sorry, mate-“Kade started.
“Don’t call her that punk!” Dad spat. “I didn’t send you here to mate with wolves, Gabriella.”
“Geez, why did you send me here? Or maybe if you hadn’t run off you would have told me I wasn’t allowed to mate with wolves,” I snapped..

Dad threw his hand over his head and picked up his knife.
“I was trying to protect you. Besides, aren’t there laws that forbid wolves from mating with humans?”
“Not for the last fifty years,” Alex frowned.
“Besides, you know as well as I do that Gabriella’s not human.” Kade and Dad stared each other down but not a word was uttered.
“Can we get out of here? There’s room for you at the academy, Erik,” Alex said.
“I can’t I’m tracking a dangerous wolf,” Dad replied.
“The same wolves that are using my school as a hunting ground?” Alex raised his brow.
“So you’ve seen it?”
Alex nodded.
“I’ll come just to capture the thing then I’m leaving.”
“Seems that’s what you do best,” I whispered.
He turned to me and burrowed his brows but said nothing.
Kade tucked me under his arm, carning a growl from my Father. I circled my arms around his waist to show Dad that I wasn’t leaving him.
“I’ll take her back,” Kade said.
Alex nodded. “Come on Erik.”
“I’ll see you at the school, Gabriella,” Dad said.
I nodded. When they were gone Kade peeled me from his frame and held my shoulders so he could see me properly.
“Are you okay?” He demanded.
“I’m fine-
“I nearly lost my head looking for you.”
“Kade-
“This was my fault I don’t know how to handle Harlow and it’s putting you in danger.”
Kade!”
“Fuck, Alex was right you look like a wet puppy.”
I frowned and he finally stopped and chuckled. He pulled me into his arms and kissed my forehead.

my throat became thick. “I didn’t think I’d make it.”
He held me tighter.
“You’re here. It’s okay. Baxter won’t hurt you again and I’ll deal with Harlow somehow.”
He pulled back and stroked my cheek. I winced as he touched a cut.
“I’ll take care of you at the academy. Get on my back.
He dropped to all fours and a wolf replaced his human form. I fell off a cliff into a lake ridding a wolf shouldn’t be so scary but I feared at his pace that he would drop me. Putting my fear aside I climbed on Kade’s back and fisted his fur. I felt his heartbeat as I rested my head on his back.
His steady heart rate was opposite to my racing heart. Was there anything my Dad could do to break my relationship with Kade? What was his reason for not wanting us together? I knew where Kade’s Dad came from but not mine.
Ouch, I winced as Kade pulled back the cotton soaked in disinfectant.
“That’s the last one,” Kade said.
We were in his bathroom as he tried to find every cut and bruise that needed cleaning. Kade put aside the dish with the first aid supplies and sighed. He looked defeated and tired. I tightened my Towel around my chest and stood so I could sit on his lap.
It was a bad idea since he sat on the edge of the bathtub and we could easily fall in but he held met securely.
“He hurt you, didn’t he? You can tell me,” I asked, holding his cheek.
He took my hand and squeezed. “He didn’t. It lasted a second. What hurt me was almost losing you. I can’t… do this again. Why can’t people accept we’re together?”
I wish I had the answer.
I rested my head on his shoulder. Don’t cry Gabbie, we’ve been through worse. Though, Harlow came close what if she didn’t stop until my blood was on her hands?
“I have to talk to my Dad. There are things we need to talk about.”
“Rest first. You must be exhausted.”
I wouldn’t be able to rest my mind. Especially since I was in the same building as the girl who nearly killed me!
“Just a liule bit then I should go. I need clean clothes anyway.”
He smirked. “You look better naked.” He kissed my neck.
