The First Battle
I woke with a start. A flash of white hair was the last thing I saw before I opened my eyes to a dark room. I palmed the space beside me. It was empty.
“Kade!” 1 held the blanket to my chest.
“I’m here, I’m here.”
He slipped into bed and pulled me close. He kissed my cheek several times as he stroked the back of my neck.
“I went to the bathroom.”
“What time is it?”
“Three in the morning. I may have knocked you out with Alpha power. I forget you’re not the best recipient of it.”

I nodded but the overwhelming sense of anxiety wouldn’t understand his words. I felt like a sitting duck in this school. Harlow gained the help of a wolf who tried to assault me during the omega ceremony. There would be more wolves who wanted to take advantage of me because I didn’t have a wolf but I couldn’t leave Kade.
“Don’t cry, babe. I feel like a helpless fool when you cry.”
I dried my tears and laughed. “Imagine how I feel then.”
“You’re not helpless Gabbie. Have you forgotten you kicked a beta’s ass in your first week?”

His hand slammed the bedside table and the lamp came on. He gripped my shoulders, his wolf flashing in his eyes.
“I should have killed him. I shouldn’t have left anything for them to piece together.”
“What? my voice cracked.
“Baxter isn’t here. We had a little exchange.”
I cringed imagining there weren’t a lot of words involved.
Even thinking about Baxter touching me made me feel filthy. I didn’t want anyone other than Kade. I hugged my chest squeezed my lees shut and curled into a ball.

I stared up at him.
“More than any woman I’ve ever come across.

With Kade busy this meant I had no choice but to confront my Dad. I’d been waiting years to have this conversation now he was here. I wasn’t ready.
