Chapter 60
– King Balthasar –
Chapter 60
“My King! You don’t know how happy I am to see you back to your health!” Alpha Declan exclaimed as soon as he saw Balthasar
at the packhouse.
Alpha Declan arrived at the Cross River Pack. His wife, Luna Grace, came with him as well. The first person they
requested to see was the king.
Yet again, days came and went. The king was ready to return to the palace, but before that, he needed the support of the most
powerful alphas in the land.
King Balthasar recalled Kieran’s tale and how Alpha Declan personally brought him out of the palace, disguising him to get past
the queen’s guards. Thinking of this, Bathasar
offered Declan an embrace, thanking him for saving his life.
“Words cannot express how much I owe you my life. More importantly, you have contributed to the brighter future of Taplean,”
Balthasar declared.
Then, Luna Grace kneeled in front of Balthasar, saying, “My King. When I learned what had happened, I could not rest. I prayed
almost every hour to the Moon Goddess that you would be saved. I am so glad that Kieran secured the fire root plant.”
Luna Grace was one of those who supported King Balthasar the most. Thus, the king acknowledged her sincerity. He urged her
to stand up and embraced her tightly, saying, “Bless Alpha Declan for a luna like you. Thank you for praying for me. In fact, I
know many were praying for me, and that was how the Moon Goddess gave me a second chance at life.”

Balthasar studied Kieran, Aelxia, Jaxon and Rae. Then, his eyes wandered to his Beta. He asked Ford, “Who else is coming?”
“Alpha Kai and Alpha Baxter are on their way, My King,” Kieran answered for Beta Ford.
“Two more alphas from the south are coming with Alpha Baxter,” Alpha Declan reported. “Alpha Helman and Alpha Dave.”
“Very good. Then, that should be enough,” the king said. “Then, we shall begin the planning soon.”
One by one, the alphas arrived. Each of them gave the same overwhelming reaction. They hugged the king and thanked the
Moon Goddess that he was well. Other lunas also came, sharing the same sentiments.
The arrival of Luna Beatrice, Alpha Blaze’s wife, surprised the king the most. The king was hesitant, but Luna Grace assured
him, saying, “She means well, my king, and no, she does not support her husband.”
Luna Beatrice bowed to the king and reported, “My husband, Alpha Blaze, had begun divorcing me, my king. I think we both
know the reason why.”
King Balthasar nodded and replied, “We will cover this later.”
When everyone was complete, they gathered in the packhouse’s living room. The alphas office in the Cross River Pack was not
sp acious enough. Only the living room could accommodate them all.
The Omegas set up chairs where they could discuss, and when everyone was settled, the king said, “My people inside the
palace have confirmed that the queen called the meeting of alphas.”
Chapter 60
“That is true,” Alpha Baxter confirmed. “I received a letter.”
“I did not receive a letter,” Alpha Declan reported. “The queen must still doubt me.”
“I received a letter already,” Alpha Helman said.
“I have, too,” Alpha Dave confirmed. “It’s probably because we haven’t been active in the meetings that she assumed we would
not be aware of, but Alpha Baxter told us everything.”
“You should read the letter, My King.” Alpha Baxter suggested.
The king nodded and took the letter. From there, he read:
[To Alpha Baxter,
It is with regret that I inform you of the king’s possible passing.
As you may have known, the king had been ill for weeks. My husband, Balthasar, fell unconscious during the last council of
alphas meeting.
I had ordered the best doctor to attend to his health, but much to my dismay, Alpha Kieran had kidnapped the king. We tried to
recover my husband, but we failed miserably. Alpha Kieran made sure of that.
During the last council meeting, Alpha Kieran was stripped of his alpha title, and I can only guess this was his form of revenge to
kill the king!
It was only last week when I learned that the king might already be dead due to his illness. With the king gone, matters within the
country remained unaddressed. Thus, it is necessary to decide on the next king. I hope you will support me in naming my son,
Prince Caspian, as the next king.

Please be present during the next council meeting.
Sincerely,
Queen Helen.]
The king took a deep breath, reading the letter. He shook his head and said, “Under the law, Prince Caspian would be named as
the next king, but of course, she cannot do that yet when my b*dy is missing somewhere.”
“So unless there is the certainty that I am dead, she can only call on the votes among all alphas and the elders,” the king
described. “It’s a temporary appointment until my b*dy is formally declared dead. However, my wife is already assuming that I am
dead.”
King Balthasar then narrated the events leading up to his healing. He reported, “Caspian attempted to destroy all the fire root
plants. By doing so, they assumed that I had not been cured. Given the poison she had given me, I would have already been
dead weeks ago.”
“Unfortunately for Helen, Kieran secured the miracle root. Here I am, alive and well,” Balthasar said.
“Why would Caspian do this, My King?” Alpha Kai sought, lifting his brow. “Isn’t he your-”
“He is not my son,” King Balthar disclosed. “He is someone. else’s son.”
The king saw the shock on everyone’s faces. Jaws were dropping, and eyes were bulging. After some time, Alpha Baxter
recovered. He asked, “Then – who – whose son is Caspian?”
Balthasar turned to Luna Beatrice. It was then when the luna revealed, “My husband, Alpha Blaze. Queen Helen was the

mistress I had hated all along, and they have a son, Prince Caspian.”
“That only means one thing,” Kieran interrupted, saying, “Caspian cannot be king.”
“Had had you known all along, My King?” Alexia asked with a frown on her face.
The king shook his head and answered, “No – not about Alpha Blaze. At least, not until recently. Helen and Blaze had been
careless lately. Because they think I am dead, Alpha Blaze had been boldly entering my bedroom, the same room I shared with
the queen. My people inside the palace have reported this. You see, Helen thought she had gotten rid of all those loyal to me,
and she did. She focused on the guards and the warriors. She forgot about the maids and the cleaners around the palace. They
are my eyes and ears now from within, reporting through Beta Ford.”
“Indeed, My King. Blaze used to be so secretive, but now, he is making mistakes,” Luna Beatrice supplemented. “Lately, I have
wondered why Blaze was staying at the palace. Before the last council meeting, he had been sleeping there. At first, he told me,
he was held as a witness against Kieran’s crimes, but lately, his reasons involved the king.”
Beatrice looked like a tough woman, but the king saw through the pain in her eyes. He listened as she said, “He said that the
queen was hurt due to the king’s betrayal and that he had to be there for the queen and offer comfort. But did it really have to be
him?”
“Then, I realized how he was always at the capital when I suspected he was with his true mate,” Beatrice added. “Then
Balthasar witnessed Beatrice’s eyes widening. She repeatedly

gulped air down her throat. She tried to hold back her tears, but they fell uncontrollably as she narrated, “A few days back, I
called Blaze’s number in the wee hours. I wanted to speak to him -to get answers. He had been cheating on me with his true
mate for years, yet he had never left me! So What changed now?”
“I called so many times that it must have upset him. He answered my call, scolding me for waking him up in his sleep. He
hurriedly ended our conversation, but I heard the queen’s voice before putting the phone down. It was just for a fleeting moment,
but I recognized her voice,” Beatrice expounded in an angry tone.
“Why would I hear the queen’s voice unless they were sleeping together!” Luna Beatrice howled in tears. “It all made sense to
me now. All those years, how he was always at the capital. And now, with His Highness gone from the palace, Blaze is sleeping
with the queen. That was the only explanation I can think of; The Queen is Blaze’s, true mate!”
The truth shocked everyone, even the king. Helen used his true mate, Avery, and made accusations of his betrayal when it was
the queen who had repeatedly been cheating on him with her true mate.
Instantly, the king’s eyes narrowed, thinking of how cu nning Helen was. Was she better than Avery? If only his father were here
to see this now, the woman he chose for him to marry might have come from a reputable family, but she had an evil heart.
Dead air fell upon the living room of the packhouse, and while the alphas and the lunas were letting it all sink in, Seth walked in
on the meeting, saying, “Luna Alexia! Your mother is here!”
King Balthasar’s heart raced!
