Chapter Saying Goodbye To My Troubles 79
Chapter 79
Mona felt a sense of relief inside. She had been worried that Nydia's sense of loyalty toward Mick might make him reconsider.
But now, it seemed clear that turning their rushed marriage into something real was just a way for Mick to repay Nydia for healing his eyesight. After all, Nydia had nothing. With the title of "Mrs. Wilcher", she could solidify her position in Elipus.
"Mick, I'm still worried that you two will end up fighting endlessly. Ted's getting older, and he can't be without a mother to take care of him, Mona said. Mick gritted his teeth. "She'll be the one begging me in the end."
Mona paused, surprised. She wondered if he had ever considered finalizing the divorce paperwork, now that the cooling-off period was almost over. "The cooling-off period is almost over," she said, deliberately bringing it up.
Mick's hand tightened into a fist, the veins in his hand bulging with tension. The injury on his wrist stung, but it seemed like he didn't feel the pain at all. "If she wants a divorce that badly, I'll give it to her. Let's see if she can survive in this city without me."
Mona still looked concerned. His words clearly reflected frustration. It seemed like she would have to keep fueling the flames.
The following week, Nydia enjoyed a rare sense of peace. Without Mick's constant interference, she could finally enjoy some quiet.
Furthermore, many of her patients had already been discharged, meaning her workload had significantly decreased, giving her more time to relax.
Of course, the most important thing was that Bella had turned into a little puppy and had become very affectionate with her.
"Dr. Vega."
She had just opened the photo Norman sent her about Bella when she heard a knock on her office door. Since the hacker incident, Nydia had her own private office and was regarded as a special presence in the hospital. Everyone respected her, especially since she had saved Homer, and several influential figures were eager to be her mentors. So, when Buck appeared at her door, no one noticed.

"What brings you here? Is Mr. Barton Senior's condition....!
"It's not my grandfather. I'm here to apologize today." Buck smiled awkwardly.
Nydia was taken aback.
"Dr. Vega, in the past, when I was with Mick, I always thought you were just some country girl with no understanding of our upper-class rules. looked down on you for that. I want to apologize for my ignorance.
"I know you may not forgive me easily, but if I don't apologize, I'll never find peace. I was blind to your worth, I was arrogant, and I'm ashamed of myself."
Nydia forced herself to push down the ache in her chest. She wanted to speak, but when she opened her mouth, no words came out.
She picked up a pen to write a patient's record, but her hand trembled, and she couldn't bring herself to put the pen to paper. She tried to place the pen back into the holder, but it wouldn't
fit.
"I... I actually... forgot," she murmured. Then, she turned her head away, hastily wiping her
eyes.
Buck felt a pang of guilt in his heart. He had been such a jerk in the past. He treated someone as remarkable as Nydia so badly.
"I heard you were nominated for the annual Outstanding Doctor award. Such a big accomplishment deserves to be celebrated. How about I handle the arrangements for you?" he offered, genuinely wanting to do something to make up for the mistakes he had made. When Nydia looked at him, he clasped his hands together and gave a pleading, almost apologetic expression. "Please."
"Okay." Nydia smiled through her tears. "Thank you."
Buck was instantly overwhelmed with gratitude. Don't worry. I'll make sure it's done. perfectly."
In the past, few people in the circle knew that Nydia was Mick's wife, and even his closest friends had always avoided mentioning her.
