Chapter 24: Divided Loyalties
Lyla's POV
I hoped that Kyle would not be seen when leaving. If he was to be seen, I can't imagine what they would do to him.
I would have understood everyone else's hatred but I didn't expect this from Aria. Considering the fact that it was Kyle who healed those kids. "Aria, why did you do that?"I asked her.
Yes, I understood the fact that she didn't trust him much but this was beyond just the issue of trust.
"What do you mean? He's not supposed to be here."She responded.
"I know that but he deserved more respect."I stated.
"Respect, "she scoffed. "Have you forgotten what his people did to us? Don't start with me, Lyla."She ordered.
I couldn't believe this was happening. Why the sudden change?
"Kyle is not like father. And have you also forgotten what he did to help your people. Without him, those kids would be dead. Atleast he deserves some gratitude."
No matter what she said, I knew Kyle wasn't like that if he really was, he would have let those kids die.
"What gratitude? It was his people that caused the harm in the first place. I hope you have not forgotten that part."She questioned.
"What is your problem? Can't you see he's just trying to help? He literally just healed him."I said.
Aria looked at me to confirm if what I said was true. There was no shock In her face when she saw it was true. Her expression remained the same. "So? Isn't it obvious that he is just trying to win you over?"I claimed.
"I don't see anything wrong in trying to win me over. You just hate him for no reason."I stated.
I knew I was telling the truth. There was no logical reason why she was acting like this. She knew it wasn't Kyle that killed her friend.
And I don't recall seeing Kyle with his father when he slaughtered my people.
"Lyla, I'm just looking out for you. That's all."She said.
"Kyle wouldn't harm me."
"How well do you know him?"She asked.
She was right .I didn't know him entirely but with the little I knew, I knew he wasn't a bad person.
"Well enough to know he is not a bad person."I answered her question.
"Lyla, you don't know what you're putting yourself into."She said.
"You know something."That explained why she was acting this way. "What am I putting myself into?"I questioned her.
"It's not time for you to know yet. Just stay away from Kyle ."She stated.
"I seriously do not know who to trust anymore. Something is coming for me and you won't tell me what it is instead, you tell me to stay away from the one person who's helping me."
The whole thing wasn't making any sense .She is supposed to tell me this early so I could try to avoid it. How does she expect me to trust any of them. I didn't even know if this whole prophecy was true to begin with.
"Lyla, trust me. I am the only one you have. No one here likes you."She said.
"No. I refuse to believe that. That is what you want me to think. That it's only you I have, so I shouldn't trust anyone other than you.
It's not just you I have. I believe that Kyle is a good person and is nothing like his father."
"That's what you may think now but later..."I interrupted her. "If you're not going to tell me what will happen later, don't bother saying it.
You kept on saying prophecy over and over again. You gave me hope that I would get justice for my father and my people. You also said that the witch mother would give me powers. I also recall you saying that I can fully control my powers if I train. And now you're telling me to stay away from Kyle."
"Kyle isn't the only person that can train you. People here can train you."
She said and all I could do was to laugh.
"What am I suppose to learn from them. They are humans, Aria. I am a wolf. What would they teach me ?
Or other wolves in town who I am trying to hide from."
I explained her.
Aria became silent. She knew I was right.
"You brought me back to life and I lost my memory. I was so happy like that. I didn't have any worry in this world. I could have lived a normal life if you didn't make me remember."
It was true. My life would have been normal if I didn't remember. Atleast I got to forget the kind of pain I went through after my father died and pain from watching your people being killed in front of you.
"You needed to remember to fulfill the prophecy, Lyla."
"Enough with the prophecy already. Everyone is just being selfish. I'm only here for your desire. That why they let me stay here, because they believe I can help them. Everyone is just selfish ."I declared.
"Lyla, listen to me. I'm trying to look out for you. No matter what you say, Kyle will always be his father's son. They have the same blood running through their system."
"Blood does not determine your character. I am going to keep training with Kyle. "
I said and I meant it. If they couldn't give me any good reason why I should stop training with him or reasons why I should stay away from him then I wasn't listening to them. "Lyla!"She shouted.
Aria was my friend but this time she was going overboard. I can sense that I am in trouble and she refused to tell me. "What?!"I shouted back.
She looked shocked. She didn't expect me to do the same. She needed to trust me if she wanted me to trust her as well.
"I'm not trying to argue with you .I just think it's best you stay away from him. I'm serious, this isn't a warning you should just turn a blind eye to."
"I'm not turning a blank eye to anything. I just refuse to trust someone who doesn't trust me."
She knew I was talking to her.
"Who said I didn't trust you? I trust you, Lyla."
She said calmly.
"If you really did you would have told me what was before me."Aria kept silent.
"See,you can't tell me. So, I'm not going to listen to you."
I said and laid on my bed.
She knew I wouldn't respond to any of her words. Soon after, she left.
