Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Stella felt her heart sink. “How did you know, Sharon?”
“She told me about it this morning.” There was no hiding the smile on Sharon’s face.
Stella finally knew just what had made Sharon so cheery. It seemed that she had learned that Jessica
was pregnant.
Stella was unfazed as she nodded. “Yes.”
Jessica being pregnant was a fact, just like the sky was blue. Stella had nothing to say about it.
“Is it Brian’s?” Sharon asked.
“You should ask Brian about this, Sharon.” Honestly, Stella wasn’t sure. Although Jessica claimed that it
was his, Brian had never admitted that he was the sire.
“It has to be Brian’s.” Sharon continued, “She told me that this morning.”
One sentence was more than enough for Stella to know just how much Sharon wanted Brian’s child.
Stella felt a layer of gloom settling over her heart as she looked at the scenery.
She knew she shouldn’t feel like this. Two years ago, her father schemed against Brian. Thus, none of the Foleys liked her, especially Sharon.
Sharon was widowed at a young age. She had cared for Brian all by herself. When he finally became Foley Group’s heir, he was forced to marry a woman saddled with a sky–high debt. To make matters worse, she might as well be barren.
Stella was utterly resigned to her fate when it came to her useless womb.
She had badgered Dr. Sanders about it. All Dr. Sanders had to say about the matter was that she was of frail health. She had to first care for her health before even thinking about bearing a child.
Plus, Brian was constantly on the move due to his work. So, she had nothing to show despite being
married to him for two whole years.
“Stella,” Sharon suddenly said.
Stella turned her gaze to Sharon. She knew that Sharon wasn’t one to waste her breath on the likes of her. So, she listened quietly. “Yes, Sharon?”
“Actually, you’re a lovable girl. It’s just that…”
Stella knew something was up once Sharon started the sentence in such a manner. As expected, Sharon continued, “You can’t bear a child.”
There it was.
Sharon kept talking, “I’m not trying to humillate you. I’ve given you plenty of chances these past two years. Yet, your womb remained unresponsive. Now, I’m Ill. I don’t have much time left.”
“My only wish is to finally hold my grandchild in my arms. Stella, you can understand that, can’t you?”
Stella
dn’t say anything. She knew Sharon was far from done. Thus, she played along, saying, “Sharon, you can speak freely.”
“Well, it’s nothing much really. Stella, since Brian doesn’t like you and Jessica’s pregnant, why don’t you divorce Brian? Give Jessica the position of Mrs. Foley.
Stella was startled by her boldness.
Sharon had completely chosen Jessica’s side because of the child. She wanted to separate her and Brian.
Yet, she wasn’t the one with any say when it came to this marriage. She desperately wanted a divorce. Sadly, Brian was doing this to torment her. Besides, her father refused to give her the green light to proceed with the divorce proceedings.
Stella’s eyes dimmed at the thought of her father.
Just then, Sharon brought her father into the conversation.
“Stella, I can’t bear to see you all alone as well. So, why don’t you grant me my your father out? What do you think?”
my
wish and I’ll help you get
Stella felt her fingers biting into her palms out of shock. “Are you certain? Sharon, are you really willing to do that?”
There were still a few years left until her father’s sentence ran its get the divorce she wanted if Sharon kept the end of her bargain.
- e. Regardless, Stella could finally
When the time came, she would have her father in her corner. It would be just them against the world.
Sharon nodded her head regally. “As long as Brian’s child is legitimized, I’ll naturally help you out. Your family will be able to see each other beyond bars. I’ll even give you a considerable sum. That way, you can live comfortably with your father.”
Sharon was just about willing to do anything it took just to gain a grandchild,
Stella asked hesitantly, “Then, what of the feud between the Yates and the Foleys?”
