Madilynne

Chapter Trepidation's Cold Embrace

Madilynne’s P.O.V

Shifting back “Holy shit, I didn’t see that coming!” I shouted happily.

Koles eyes narrowed to mine “You saw this didn’t you?”

Shrugging my shoulders “Well I didn’t exactly see everything. I knew she was coming, Just not when or why. Now it makes sense. Congratulations, Princess!”

“Hang on a sec, why didn’t you see the whole vision? Is everything okay Madi?” Kade’s face was laced with concern.

“Uh, not sure why. Stress maybe?” I suggested the possibility.

Noticing the Auburn wolf still hadn’t shifted yet, I turned my attention to her.

“Hey, it’s okay. You’re safe here.” I spoke soothingly.

The Auburn Wolf laid down, Her eyes following Koles every movement from her position.

“Kole, shift back. Your mate needs you.” I said as I held eye contact with the beautiful wolf.

From behind me, I could hear Kole shift into his wolf, his paws brushing across the earth as he crept closer. Turning away from the two, directing my gaze to Kade “Let’s go handsome, think these two need some time alone.”

Not waiting to hear what Kade was going to say, I shifted. Encouraging my Mate to chase after. Internally, I was grinning like a love-sick teenager.

I could feel Kade getting closer, each time I’d shake him off and gain distance.

Stopping at one of the small creeks, I scented the area for my mate. Nothing. Darting straight into the direction of the Packhouse, I could see it from here. This almost felt too easy.

So close. Just as the thought crossed my mind, Kade tackled me to the ground, his wolf pinning me below himself. I could see the wolfish smile plastered across his features. Shifting back, I stared up at my handsome Mate.

I watched as Kade shifted back, “God’s you’re so beautiful, love.” Kade’s hand brushed across my cheek as he spoke. Leaning into his touch, embracing the fire that crept below my skin.

But he isn’t my mate. The realization hit me like a truck. The ceremony invite, His chosen mate. Rolling out from under Kade I quickly stood. “We can’t do this. You have a mate.”

Kade quickly jumped up “What are you talking about?”

“We got the ceremony invite.” I said as I wrapped my arms around myself.

“What ceremony invite are you talking about love?” I could see the confusion clouding his features.

“God’s Kade you chose her. I saw the invite.”

“Madi I don’t have a chosen Mate. I would never do that.” Kade spoke seriously.

“I don’t understand. We got the invite. You chose Cassie as your chosen Mate.” I barely whispered out.

“Madi, she escaped shortly after your abduction. And there is no way in hell I’d ever pick her as a chosen Mate.”

She escaped. He doesn’t have a chosen Mate. But why did we get a ceremony Invite then?

“Shit, it’s Miles.” I yelled out.

“Madi, something came for you while you were out.” Sienna said from the porch, in her hand, she held a small white box wrapped like a gift, a red satin ribbon sat on top.

Running up to her I got the package from her “Thanks Sienna, do we know who delivered this?” I asked.

Sienna shook her head. “No, it was delivered without a return address.”

“Thanks.” I nodded my head, Sienna returned back to the packhouse.

With shaking hands, I unwrapped the bow that was wrapped around the small box.

The contents the box held were pictures of everyone I’ve ever been in contact with and myself.

Hundreds of pictures sat in the box, most I didn’t know when they had been taken. Except for the last one. The last one was of Kade and I, just hours ago. A note laid below the last picture, reading ′ I’m coming for you, little wolf. ′ Shock and fear gripped me. “God’s how did he find me.”

“Breathe love” Kade said as he shook me.

Faintly I could hear Kole and Kade arguing, about what? I don’t know.

Dropping to my knees “He’s never going to stop.” I whispered out as the angry tears ran a hot trail down my cheeks.

“We’re going to find him Madi.” Kade spoke.

No. He’s coming for me.

Shaking out of the cloud of shock that gripped me, I stood “We need a plan. He’s coming for me.”

“I’ve already increased patrols at the borders. I’ll contact the surrounding Packs for more enforcers. That bastard is getting nowhere near you Madi girl.” Kole’s voice floated to me.

“I have enforcers on their way to us from Nightshade Pack. He won’t get to you love.” Kade whispered as he wrapped his arms around me. Even though here in his protective arms, I didn’t feel safe.

He would find me. Miles always got to me. I don’t know when, But I know he will.

This time I would be ready.

Mindlessly, I walked alongside Kade into the packhouse. Nothing felt real around me Like it was all a dream.

I could feel myself being carried, and then laid on a bed. “Get some rest, love.” Kade whispered as he pressed a kiss to my head.

At some point, I must have fallen asleep. The room was dark, I could hear voices coming from Kole’s office still. Looking through the curtain-drawn window, I could see the full moon high in the sky.

For a while, I just laid there. Replaying every moment in my life that I could remember.

All those years I spent at the boarding school, all the summers I lived not realizing the danger I’d be putting all the ones I love by meeting him.

I remember Megan hounding me to go to that bonfire party with her, but if I would have just said no all of this could have been avoided. We should have just stayed home.

Rolling out of bed, I walked over to the window. I could still hear Kade and Koles voices going back and forth from the office.

Letting out a breath, I jumped from the window landing on four paws.

Running to the east, I knew Kole wouldn’t have Wes or Zak patrolling on that border. I could outrun the rest of the wolves in this pack easily.

‘I love you, Kade.’ I whispered, trusting it would reach him like it use to.
