Chapter 58
Chapter 58 You're Humiliating Your Own Husband Clarissa spent the whole night in the clorm. The fact that Damien didn't send hier Whatsapp messages nor called her on the phone made hier very anxlous. She didn't know what he was thinking. The next day at work, the training course agency suddenly texted her. (We mentioned on last Friday's course that the guest lecturer for this afternoon will be Mr. Lawrence. Today, he will be covering the topic of 'Introduction of Crisis Management in Enterprises. Everyone, please attend the course on time.) The training course agency had already formed a group chat for the employees in the New East Corporation. Many of the senior management members who were in charge or giving lectures were in that group as well.
Naturally, Damien was in that group as well. Typically speaking, Damien's lecture was already set for next month. Why did it suddenly get rescheduled to the current date?
Damien's thought process was forever a mystery Clarissa found it difficult to predict what lie was thinlong
Since she couldn't understand why, she might as well just drop it.
Meanwhile, Lily decided to send Clarissa a Whatsapp message.
Lily: (Let's go together this afternoon.) Clarissa, however, didn't want to see Damien at all. She decided to view Damien as her adversary from this point on Clarissa: [Nah.) Lily: (C'mon! I know you two fought, but you can't just risk your career over a light, right?) Clarissa: (I don't want to see him.) Lily: (Regardless of what you want, he's still your husband. Now that you and Mr. Lawrence are officially married, the fact that you resuse lo attend his lecture means that you intend to humiliate him. Aren't you afraid that he might punish you?) Perhaps Lily was at work when she sent out that message, or maybe it was the fact that there were too many group chats on Whatsapp. She ended up sending the final message to the training course's group chat instead. Meanwhile, Clarissa was working as well. Seeing as Lily didn't reply to her message, she thought that her friend neglected to reply, so she didn't mind it. It wasn't until the colleague sitting next to Lily nudged her before asking her in astonishment, "Is Clarissa... married to Mr. Lawrence?".
Lily's eyes widened in shock. "How did you know that?"
"Weren't you the one who said it?" The colleague raised her phone.
Lily tapped open the group chat and trded to delete the message, but she could no longer do
that.
Knowing full well that she had screwed things up royally, Lily's face morplied into an awkward expression.
There were more than twenty people in the training course's group chat. Furthermore, Clarissa was the only one from the finance department there. Then again, this was extremely juicy gossip, so it traveled throughout the entire company like wildfire. Once everyone was whispering about a certain Mrs. Lawrence, Clarissa finally snapped back into reality. Her heart sank as a foreboding feeling enveloped her 'Who are they talking about?
It was then that she noticed a text message from Lily.
Lily: (Clarissa, go check out the training course's group chat.) Clarissa wondered, 'It's probably just something about this afternoon's lecture, right? What's there to see?'
The moment Clarissa tapped open the group chat, she was frozen on the spot. Clarissa: (Delete that message right now.) Lily: (I can't! You might as well punish me already!) Acrying emoji was sent to Clarissa shortly after that. Clarissa thought in despair, 'Sh*l! He wanted to keep our marriage a secret! Now that the whole company's found out about us, he's definitely going to punish me now!' As Damien was also in the group chat. Clarissa wondered if he had seen that message.
All the colleagues around her were busy gossiping. "Clarissa's retaliation is pretty strong, isn't it? She refuses to let Madelynn off the hook no matter what. First, she liad the CEO change the microwave for us, and now, she's leaking the news of their marriage! That woman is really brutal."
"Of course! Madelynn's a strong rival, after all. Clarissa's position as Mrs. Lawrence is definitely in danger."
It seemed that everyone wanted Clarissa to hear their conversations, since they decided to be blunt and speak without any reservation.
"Shh! She's Mrs. Lawrence now! Let's keep it on the down low. What if she decides to make our lives a living hell in the future?"
***
Originally, Clarissa didn't plan to attend the training course in the afternoon. Thanks to Lily's massive screw-up, she wanted to see how Damien would react to this.
In the afternoon, Clarissa headed over to the training room under the gawking of countless others.
She didn't sit in the first row. Instead, she chose to sit in the last row.
"This is all your fault! I suffered a lot because of you!" she complained to Lily, seething.
LY IVORCU UYU VI UTE STUE. "I con t know now that message was sent to the training wurse's group chat instead of our private chat! I really didn't do that on purpose! When we were chatting on Whatsapp earlier, there were incoming messages from the group chat, I diun't go through them carefully..." Soon, Damien got onstage. He switched on the laptop and started the course, Everyone turned around to glance at Clarissa. She could only lower her head the best she could, ignoring their pointed stares. Damien looked noble and cold, his figure lean and tall. Throughout the lecture, he remained expressionless and poker-faced. Clarissa tried to detect even the smallest hint of emotion from his face the whole time, but she failed to notice anything.
After the lecture was over, Damien started distributing assignments to all the participants.
"Someone doesn't want to come see me, but in the end, they decided to save my face by attending this lecture, That person should know what they should do after this. Tomorrow, they will personally hand in their assignment to me at my desk."
Damien happened to be smiling when he spoke. However, it wasn't a gentle or a sincere smile. His eyes remained cold and sharp as usual.
It was clear he didn't mean what he said. He was telling the one who gave him face that he would accept the challenge.
Everyone turned around to look at Clarissa again.
They all understood one thing; Damien had already read Lily's message, but he chose to not refute it at all.
That meant he and Clarissa were really married!
Clarissa wanted nothing more than to hide in an underground burrow and stay there forever, Her mind was thrown into a state of chaos. All she could think was that she was doomed,
