Chapter Tell me how you did it
Layla stands tall but trembles slightly at the memory of the man as he approaches her.
He is doctor ass-hat’s colleague in that damn prison. More like a torturer.
“You look great for someone who had a broken femur, just a few months ago.” He grins as he looks her up and down.
Layla’s mind starts running wild. He’s here for me. Is he the one that’s been sending those trackers after me?…..…Is this attack because of me?
She was never sure who was sending trackers after her. The only person who really knew or cared about her was doctor ass-hat. And she killed him.
“What? Not even a hello. You were never this quiet before.”
With just a few steps away from her, she kicks him in the balls and punches his throat.
With him moaning and squealing on the ground, she tries to run, but sees the woman step in front of her with her gun aimed at Layla.
Looking at the woman’s wavering eyes and her shaky hands, Layla tries to beg. “Please.”
But the woman nervously bites her lips, and glimpses at the grunting doctor struggling to get up. She then holds the gun with a firmer grip.
She won’t help. She’s too scared of him.
“Now I remember why I always preferred you tied up.” He nods at the woman as he points his gun at Layla now.
Before she can react she feels a prick in her neck as the woman holds her from behind.
As the woman lets go of her, Layla grabs her neck trying to stumble away from her.
“What did you do?” She looks between the two. But soon notices her senses numbing.
“Don’t worry. You won’t pass out. It just makes you more compliant.” He turns to the woman. “Call for the car to pick us up.” She turns as she dials on the phone.
“Why-…” Layla struggles to finish her question as she leans against the tree trunk behind her.
“Oh please, you know why. Your parents couldn’t escape us, did you honestly think you could? And thanks to your little escape attempt, I now know you’re hiding something more.”
Seeing the grin on his face, the very one he had when he was torturing her in the prison, she actually gets scared of him for possibly knowing her secret.
“Pft. You usually have something smart to say in situations like this.” He leans forward and grips her chin. “Tell me. Did your mother do experiments on you?”
“I don’t know what y-.”
He slaps her across the face, but she doesn’t feel it. She’s not even sure if it’s because of whatever they gave her, or just because of her general numbness lately.
“You think you can still act dumb. I saw the footage of the prison before it all burnt down………. All you had to do was tell us more about your mother’s work before she went and destroyed it all. I knew doctor Richards was going to kill you for your stubbornness...... But then I see you running out of a burning building, without a single broken bone or even a scratch on you.”
She stares at him emotionless, trying not to give anything away.
“No wonder your mother kept you hidden. Tell me, how did you do it.”
She still refuses to say anything.
“Fine. I’ll be happy to do my own experiments on you. I’ll find out exactly what you are.” He yanks her from the tree to drag her along.
But he stops, the moment he hears a loud growl. Suddenly, he and the woman both raise their weapons, ready to shoot.
A large black wolf jumps out into view, and snarls at the doctor’s grip on Layla.
