Chapter Hunters
Hearing the news of a full on attack on the pack, Samantha is unsure whether this is her doing, or just a coincidence.
She was eager to escape having to fight and join the others in the tunnels, but she was more curious to see if this attack would solve her problem with Layla.
She hides behind a thick tree when she sees people she’s never seen before. Clearly not pack members. The guns were a dead give-away.
Just as one walks past her, she grabs his arm and twists it hard. The man screams as his broken arm drops the gun. His partner sees her and aims, but she is quick to react as she holds the screaming man before her as a shield. She swiftly picks up the gun and empties it in the other man.
She may not have her wolf anymore, but she is still from a warrior family. She gruntingly rolls her shoulder and rubs it, trying to ease the pain she has never been used to.
She bends over one of the corpses and takes his gun as well as a dagger, -silver. Hunters.
Just as she stands up, she hears the fuzzing noise of a radio coming from the corpses.
<<Approaching pack-house-,……No sign of the human female yet. Over.>>
Samantha can’t help but smile at the revelation. But she soon hears another voice, of a woman this time.
<<Possible sighting of the target near the eastern border. Will pursue. Over.>>
Eager to see the successful result of her plan, she makes her way to the southern border, still not aware of the dark looming shadow following her. It darkens as it’s getting stronger with the stench of blood and death hanging in the air.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest, a large black wolf rips out the throat of a human, having dared to shoot and kill one of his warriors.
Nick had noticed the scarce presence of humans joining in the ferocious fight.
Hunters!!
But he suddenly hears radio static.
<<Approaching pack-house-,……No sign of the human female yet. Over.>>
Layla?! She’s the only human here.
<<Possible sighting of the target near the eastern border. Will pursue. Over.>>
His wolf suddenly dashes east and not long after he notices another wolf running alongside him. A large black wolf with an almost silver shine in the moonlight, - Maxim.
You should stay and fight near the pack house. Nick links him.
Abby is already in the tunnels. And your Gamma already has a fighting unit protecting the pack house. She’s safe. And I can’t let you have all the fun. Nick can hear Maxim almost snicker through the link.
Just don’t get in my way.
You won’t even notice me.
The two wolves both sprint faster, running past more ferocious fighting, noticing groups of shifters struggling to take down just one wild rogue together.
Not far off, Jason and Anthony are fighting back-to-back, neither seeing a reason to shift yet.
Just a few meters away, Rebecca jumps a hunter with her golden-brown wolf, biting down on his arm.
After seeing the results of her test this morning, she is more than eager to fight, to live.
With the screaming man wailing around, she’s unaware of his comrade aiming his gun at her. Just as he fires, a loud growl vibrates through the forest.
Ripping the man’s arm off, she looks back and sees a very angry and heaving Mike in front of her with a bleeding hole in his leg.
But Mike stalks towards the unnerved hunter.
Bang!
Another shot goes off and into his shoulder, but Mike continues walking.
Bang!
But the hunter’s shivering hand has the shot barely scratch Mike’s arm. As he pulls the trigger again, Mike is quick to yank his arm, and he shoots into the sky.
Gripping the neck of the now-scared and confused man, Mike finally speaks. “Silver doesn’t work on me.”
And with one snap he breaks the man’s neck.
He turns around and painlessly picks the bullets from his body, -his eyes only focused on Rebecca and checking her for wounds.
With an almost sad look in her eyes, she trots past him, and jumps at a wild wolf behind him. Mike immediately shifts into his Lion and joins her in attacking the rogue.
Meanwhile, some fighters can see glimpses of flickering orange light in a distance. There, Tristan is helping Ben and Micah in taking down a couple of wild rogues. And with Melinda’s silent chants, she is quick at throwing fire balls at these rogues and scorching their skins, to keep them from running off.
Melinda is just happy that she convinced Tristan in letting her help fight this time. It wasn’t only about her proving herself to be strong and capable. At least now she can rest easy, knowing her mate is safe, when he’s always so eager to risk himself in saving others.
