Chapter It's not like that
A large black wolf jumps out into view, and snarls at the doctor’s grip on Layla.
Nick knew the doctor was bad news, but seeing him here, his suspicions are confirmed.
World peace my ass. He snarls as he thinks to himself.
His wolf starts walking side to side, as if searching for an opening to attack.
“Ha uh. Don’t even think about it.” The doctor says as he pulls Layla’s numb body in front of him and aims his gun at the wolf.
Then another black wolf runs up behind Nick’s wolf, and another grey wolf appears on the doctor’s side.
Nick immediately shifts and commands steadily, “let her go”, as he stands in front of them unbothered of his nudity.
Seeing the large sizes of the wolves, the doctor suddenly realizes he’s surrounded by high-ranking wolves, if not alphas.
With the two wolves snarling at him as if supporting Nick’s warning, the doctor scoffs disbelieving.
“Awh. She has a little rescue team?”
The two wolves shift and one steps forward. “YOU!” Blake yells as he suddenly recognizes the man. “You will die! For everything you’ve done, to my pack, to my family. For having built that forsaken torture prison.”
Blake is ready to attack when the doctor suddenly turns the gun to Layla’s temple, stopping him in his tracks.
“Revenge is it? That will be your undoing, wolf. Especially if you’re trying to protect this one.” He leans down sniffing Layla’s hair.
But this gets all the alphas to snarl and growl at him.
The doctor rolls his eyes. “Why are you all so adamant to protect her? She’s the one that led us here...... And so we come, purging pack after pack. Did you honestly think her little innocent act was real?”
“What?” Blake asks in almost a whisper, looking at Layla for an answer.
“He’s lying.” She tries to shout out.
“Oh really?” The doctor turns to Layla. “Have you told them who you are? Who you really are?”
“No.” She gasps out desperately to him.
Enjoying the anxious look on her face, the doctor doesn’t wait a second to watch the rest of her hope come crashing down.
“She’s Layla Michaelson. Of the famous Michaelsons.”
A long but deafening silence fills the air.
The alphas simultaneously realize that she’s from the very family that was suspected of colluding with hunters. The family whose research was used to create this damn toxin to turn shifters berserk.
“No,…no,no.” Is all Blake can say as he shakes his head.
“A Michaelson?” Maxim asks, as if wanting her to confirm it.
Nick, though, is standing in silence. But with an uncomfortable expression.
With no response from Layla, they all perceive the information to be nothing but true.
“No! You were there.” Blake starts huffing out at her. “They tortured you. They were going to kill you.”
The doctor snickers, getting Layla’s attention again. “Should I tell them?”
Layla’s eyes widen not wanting him to reveal her secret, - the very thing she promised her parents would never be exposed. She never cared that Nick saw it, knowing that he won’t spend two seconds thinking about something that doesn’t interest him. -And she doesn’t.
“Blake please. It’s not like that.” She talks before the doctor beats her to it again.
“Not like what?......I was going to take you to my pack. Were you going to lead them there too?” Blake asks in a firm, but almost accusatory tone.
Her breath hitches as she’s hit with guilt. She always knew there was a possibility that the trackers could follow her there. But she was tired of running and she was sure the trackers must have lost her trail by now. She just wanted to have somewhat of a normal life, with Blake. And she gambled on the chance.
“FUCK!!” Blake roars out as he takes her silence as confirmation. “You really had me fooled.” He looks at her with a revolted look that hits her hard.
Layla looks away, knowing there’s no hope now. She has no one here that will want to help her. She has only herself to count on. After all, alphas love nothing more than their packs, and everyone else is just collateral damage.
The doctor continues. “Don’t feel too embarrassed about something like that. Alpha Nicholas over there is the one that was betrayed by one of his own to help setup this attack. She was quite helpful, especially because she really doesn’t like you, Layla.”
Just as Blake looks like he’s ready to hit something with those clenching fists, the woman next to the doctor steps forward and aims her gun at him.
Seeing this as her only chance, Layla swings her head back, breaking the doctor’s nose. Somewhat hoping she can’t feel headaches either anymore. She spins around and grabs the gun from the grunting man as she shoves him to the ground with her foot.
Turning back around, she immediately points the gun at the alphas and the woman in front of her. She tries to hold the gun firmly with her numb hands, but her shaky breath can’t hide the fact that she’s scared, - scared of what they may finally decide to do to her.
Just as Nick steps forward, she pulls the trigger.
Bang!
