Chapter Chapter Sixteen
I patrolled the perimeter several times, just wanting a few moments to myself, but I ended up being out here for a couple of hours, they all seemed to know to leave me alone as my wolves peered over from their training in the grounds. I watched from the treeline as Lucien ordered them to prepared for the evening, we’d be making Carla’s shift a huge event.
I had watched as Brianna went indoors with our mother with a smile on her face, I watched as Calvin limped out of the house as his eyes found mine with curiosity.
The field was vibrating with excitement, everyone loved Carla, she was already accepted by the pack. I was nervous though, what if it went wrong? What if she didn’t make it through? I would lose a best friend, Daniel would lose his mate and her parents would lose a daughter.
“You’re thinking too much,” Calvin sits next to me on a log. I shift so I can talk to him, sitting beside him.
“I have a lot to think about,” I answer.
“Yes, you do, but you have a pack and a family to help you take some of that load. You forget that sometimes, you’re impulsive.” He says.
“Family trait I’m afraid,” I smirk as he chuckles nodding.
“That it is. Tony came back with Pauline a moment ago, she has settled she’s extremely apologetic. It would also seem that she has her powers still too, more powerful than ever,” Calvin says as I face him.
“Really? Thank the goddess she’s safe,” I sigh in relief.
“Yes. Vance is sitting up, he’s healing well. Craig has yet to wake up but I do wonder if it might be for the best that he doesn’t for a little while. He’s tied to a powerful witch who has joined the wrong side. He could be a liability.” Calvin says.
“You’re right, I don’t want you to be right, but you are. Until Lucinda is dead we need to keep him under control. I will talk to Silas about it.”
“I already have. Your father agreed and as soon as we got your agreement they are going to do it. Lucien is listening out for us now, do give him a wave, he’s worried about you,” Calvin says as I look to the front of the house where Lucien stands against the porch, arms crossed.
I wave as his frown turns into a soft smile as he nods and goes back indoors.
“I needed some time to myself. The past year and a half I have spent surrounded by people when I was used to having no one. It’s still over-whelming sometimes,” I sigh.
“I understand. When this is all over I think you should take a break, go on a trek as your wolf, be free.” Calvin says.
“I’m an alpha, I don’t have time to do that. I have to protect my pack,” I shake my head.
“You have two betas, a father who is a strong alpha and if its any consolation, I will be around still. You will need the break. You’re young, you should be able to run free for a while, explore the world.” He says.
“That’s if we survive the battle,”
“No if’s. We WILL survive. Our numbers are increasing just as much as theirs are. We’ve had word from two more packs who are joining us. I have more hunters being trained as of this moment. Word is spreading, this battle will be the biggest battle of the supernatural we have seen in some time and you have brought us all together as one. Your friend Tony has contacted some old friends whom are joining us, we have magic wielders popping up here, there and everywhere. We will succeed. Now all we need is an alpha that believes in herself and her pack.” Calvin raises a brow at me with a smile.
“I believe in my pack, not so sure about myself though,” I answer.
“You should believe in yourself. After everything you have been through, you are here. You could have taken a turn and joined Yusif and the others, you could have destroyed everything we hold most dear and yet, you’re here, worried about your friends, fighting amongst family because you care.”
“Yusif and Ben will die just as Sebastian, Callum and Thomas did,” I growl.
“Listen to what you just said…You’ve taken down three of the monsters who hurt you already. Two left now and I will help you do this. But, we have a few things to do first. Carla needs her best friend.” He stands holding out a hand as I smile and take it as he pulls me up and we walk slowly towards the house.
“Thank you, Calvin,” I smile.
“My pleasure Serena, you remind me of my daughter, how she was. Headstrong but somehow timid at the same time. She needed a pep-talk sometimes too.” He smiles.
“What happened to her?” I ask.
“Cancer…It ripped her away from me all too soon.”
“I’m sorry about your daughter Calvin,” I squeeze his shoulder in support.
“Don’t be. She lived the life she wanted until the very end and I am proud of her. She is in my heart forever.” He smiles.
“SERENA!” I hear Carla before I see her as she runs at me, barrelling into me with a giggle.
“Hello to you too,” I laugh.
“I’m turning into a wolf soon! I can’t believe we’re actually doing this! What do you think I’ll look like? How big will I be?” She says.
“I will leave you two to it,” Calvin says as I smile at him and wave.
“Your wolf will probably be a similar colour to your hair, you will probably be about Liv’s wolf size,” I answer Carla.
“I’m excited!” She claps as I chuckle at her.
“No shit,” I roll my eyes.
“Don’t roll them beautiful eyes at me miss I’m an alpha wolf,” She grins.
“I will be your alpha too you know,” I smirk.
“Can’t boss me around,” She huffs playfully.
“Don’t bet on it,”
“She really is excited to be one of us isn’t she?” Daniel says through our link as I notice him standing on the stairs, arms crossed as he watches Carla with a loved up smile.
“She is, she’ll fit right in. Pllluuusss, she’ll be able to mark you back,” I wink at him.
“I hadn’t even thought of that…” He grins.
“Are you two having a conversation without me?” Carla frowns.
“I was just reminding him that when you shift, you’ll be able to mark him like he has you,” I wink at her as she blushes but smiles.
“My beautiful mate,” Daniel growls lustfully as I watch them with a smile as they snuggle into each others’ arms.
“I miss that feeling,” I sighing from the loss of the feeling of being in the arms of someone you love.
“I love you, Serena, I know it’s not the same, but I do love you,” Carla wraps her arms around me tightly.
“You’re one of us Serena, I knew it from the day we met you, that cocky attitude, the way you held yourself, you were made for this. You will find someone to love once again. But for now, you’ll just have to put up with us all loving you,” Daniel joins the hug as I chuckle.
“Love you too guys,”
“Not to split up the threesome, but the girls should get ready. Olivia has gotten out some outfits for you both to wear, plus you could do with spending some time together before the turning tonight, it helps with the bond.” Lucien smirks at us.
“I’ll be with David if you need me. See you later baby,” Daniel kisses her lightly and ruffles my hair as I laugh and smack his hand away.
“Let’s bond baby!” I take Carla’s hand as she laughs.
We head upstairs to my room where on my bed are two beautiful mid-length dresses. Mine was a bright amethyst colour and Carla’s was a beautiful deep blue.
“Wow, I don’t want them to be destroyed, they are so beautiful,” Carla says holding it against her.
“They won’t be. I don’t know how it works but every wolf, bitten or born has this weird spell on them that their clothes turn with them.” I smile.
“Thank god for that,” She grins.
“How about a little music? Just like old times while we get ready,” I smirk as she looks at me knowingly. A little music always led to very loud music and dancing around like complete morons, but it was fun.
“Let’s do it,” She grins as I laugh and head over to turn on the stereo.
Grabbing her hand I spin her as we begin to dance around the room together, enjoying this moment together as best friends.
