When Fate Intervenes (Giselle and Anthony)

Chapter 17

Giselle did not believe him.

The realization came as a terrible blow to Anthony.

However, he knew he was the one who caused Giselle to lose her trust in him completely. Anthony only had himself to blame.

Also, he had prepared himself over and over again internally for a situation like this. It was somewhat bearable for him.

He drew a long breath. His voice grew much firmer.

"I will prove to you that I mean what I said. Giselle, can you give me one more chance?"

Anthony had just parked the car inside the underground parking lot. Giselle unbuckled the seat belt and opened the door. There was a trace of impatience and indifference in her voice. "You can prove whatever you want to me once you hand me our divorce certificate."

After saying that, she did not even bother checking Anthony's response and headed right for the elevator.

Their conservation eventually ended with the topic of divorce again. Anthony fully understood at that point that Giselle was adamant about the divorce.

He balled his fists tightly. The veins on his arms bulged. Yet, that did not help ease the pain in his heart. Anthony could only follow behind Giselle as they headed up the building.

After pressing the password, there was a short tune of a bell ringing as the door opened.

Giselle walked in while looking down. As she considered whether she should change her shoes, a pair of bunny pattern slippers on the shoe rack caught her eye.

The pair of slippers looked exactly the same as the ones she always wore at their old house.

However, Giselle remembered clearly throwing away the slippers the day she left.

"Why is there a pair of the same design here?" she pondered.

Giselle lifted her head, feeling puzzled. Then, she froze as she took in the place's interior.

From things like the curtains and mugs to the cupboards and the wedding photo hung in the living room... Except for the size of the room, all of the furniture and decorations were the exact same as what they had in their old house. Giselle felt as though she had been teleported to a strange space and time.

She could not help asking, "Why is this place decorated like this? Also, where did you get the same items?"

Anthony followed Giselle's gaze as she scanned her surroundings. There was a sense of nostalgia as he spoke.

"I always thought you'd move in with me and we'd start our new life here. I didn't know you'd planned early on to leave and abandon me here.

"If the place isn't decorated like this,

it doesn't feel like home to me. As

for the tems, they aren't that hard to

obtain. I just had to spend a bit more effort in finding them."

If it were not for all of the past painful memories, Giselle might just feel a bit bad about leaving Anthony.

Yet, the current Giselle could not

even be bothered to play along with Anthony's act of being seemingly deeply in love with her. She also did

not bother changing her shoes and walked straight into the house.

"Splendid. That makes it easier for me to look for things. The sooner I find everything, the sooner we'll be able to get the divorce over with. This is quite convenient."

Ever since they met, every single one of Giselle's remarks was hurtful to Anthony.

He finally realized that Giselle was not a gentle and meek person by nature. Instead, she was someone who could be sharp with her words.

Giselle had concealed her real self just to enter Anthony's world and keep their marriage going.

If that were the case, then the pain and sadness Giselle had suffered from being neglected by Anthony for the past three years were probably much worse than how he had

imagined it to be.

Suppressing her own thoughts and feelings, Giselle had put up with Anthony and endured this marriage that made her unhappy in every way.

Yet, Anthony had taken all of her sacrifices for granted. Not only had he not once shown gratitude, but Anthony also went ahead and added salt to Giselle's wounds. What he did made Giselle lose all her confidence in this relationship.

At that moment, Anthony felt as though a knife was driven into his heart as the truth dawned on him.

His insides seemed to throb painfully following his heartbeat. It was as if his body was about to be torn to pieces at any moment.

Anthony had no way of stopping or resisting the agonizing pain. He could only let the overwhelming sense of pain take over him. He got exactly what he deserved.
