Chapter 36
Fun was not the word Abigail would have picked. As soon as they’d made it to the lovely island of Marathon in the Florida Keys, rain has started pouring. There was even talk of thunderstorms. Luckily, they made it to Rick’s beachfront mansion safe and well, wet.
“You own this house?” Abigail asked dumbfounded as they walked into the house and she started looking around.
He was a huge pop star of course he owned it, she told herself.
“You like it?” he asked putting down the bags and closing the door.
“Rick, it’s gorgeous.” She said, walking through the foyer to the living area. “How can you live in this huge house by yourself?” She turned to look at him after asking the question and saw him blush.
“I don't.” he said, when she raised her eyebrows he rushed on, “Usually, I’m on the road and not here. But whenever I am home, there’s always someone here with me.”
He didn’t have to spell it out for her. He was rich and successful yes. But the boy was also gorgeous. It would have surprised her if he didn’t have women at his beck and call. However, she had to admit that the thought of him living with a girl, sleeping with a girl that wasn’t her, made her angry.
“So should we be expecting someone then?” she asked, her voice frosty. ”DJ perhaps?”
He noticed, of course, and even if it made him uncomfortable talking about his past relationships with her, he was also pleased that it made her angry. It told him she cared.
“I’ve got you here, Abby. I don’t need anyone else.”
He wasn’t angry with her anymore, Abigail thought, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t stay angry with him.
“It’s not the same.” She told him, “I’m not sleeping with you.”
“Not yet.”
Her eyes narrowed at him and she brushed past him to look around the house some more.
“If you wanted a tour, all you had to do was ask.” He said following her.
“I don’t have to ask, it’s my job remember.” She threw over her shoulder, “You’ve got a pretty good security system here.” She observed his unit.
His eyebrows arched in a gesture that said 'You think?'.
“It always comes in handy.” He replied.
“So?” she turned to face him, “Where’s my room?”
He led her up a curved, flight of stairs and along a corridor, before he stopped in front two huge doors. He opened the door and motioned her inside. The room was huge. There was a king sized bed in the centre with its very plush white bedding. It looked so inviting, Abby had to resist the urge to throw herself on it and sigh in contentment. She looked around some more and paused.
“This is your room.”
He closed the door and walked up to her.
“Yes. Maybe you’d like to check the security here too.” He offered.
She put a hand on his hard chest and pushed him back a step.
“Back off, Camden.” She told him, “I know what you’re trying to do.”
“Really? What’s that?”
“Seduce me.”
He shrugged.
“Am I going to have to try hard?”
“Very.”
“Let’s see.”
In two quick steps, she was pulled into his arms and his mouth on hers. Hot, demanding and yet so incredibly soft. She couldn’t help the moan that escaped her as she all but melted in his arms. He held her firmly against him as their tongues danced. Her hands went round his neck as she held his head to hers. She thought she would die if he stopped kissing her. She felt her legs moving and knew he was pushing them towards the bed. She tried to pull back by pushing against his shoulders and gasped in pain. He pulled away from her then and started breathing heavily.
“Did I hurt you? I’m sorry.” He said before she could answer.
“It’s my shoulder.” She told him, “It’s still a bit sore.”
Her face was flushed and he knew she was fighting for control.
“I guess I am going to have to try a bit harder next time.” He said, “And don’t even tell me there’s not going to be a next time.” He told her when she opened her mouth to reply, “You’ll just be deluding yourself.”
“Rick-“
“When it happens, it happens.” He said firmly. “Let’s just leave it at that.”
She shook her head and he took her chin and looked into her eyes.
“But I guarantee you, it will happen.”
