Truth, Lies and Deception (the boyband series)

Chapter 35

Abigail was finally released from the hospital later the next day. Rick came to pick her up and they went back to the hotel where they left their stuff.

“I’m going with you, you know.” Abigail said walking up to Rick, bags in hand. Rick looked up from the bag he was packing to look at her. He couldn’t help the look of surprise that was on his face either. He thought he was going to have to demand that she come back with him so he could look after her and her injury, which he felt was his fault. Apparently he wasn’t going to have to.

“Why?” he asked, hiding his smile as he took the bags out of her hands and put them down. “I’ll take care of those for you. You shouldn’t be lifting anything heavy.”

Abigail sighed and brushed her hair over her shoulder.

“I thought that was obvious.” She took a seat and looked at him, “Someone’s trying to kill you, Rick and Jason assigned me to you so it’s my job to find this psychopath. I’m not leaving your side until I do.”

He looked back at her then.

“Is that a promise?”

“Wipe that smirk off your face, Camden.” She said shaking her head, “You know what I mean.”

“You should be home recovering,” Rick told her, “You’re not my bodyguard. My bodyguards will be with me until you’re better.”

Abigail cocked an eyebrow.

“Right. It was your bodyguard that saved your life the other night.”

Rick winced.

“They didn’t even notice anything strange.” Abigail insisted.

“I get the point.”

“I should have made you wear a bullet proof vest just in case.” Abigail said more to herself than to him, “I shouldn’t have taken any chances with you.”

“Hey.” Rick said walking to her and putting his hands on her shoulders, “This is not your fault, okay? And if anyone should have been wearing a bullet proof vest that night, it was you.”

Abigail let out a snort.

“Right. That would look so inconspicuous under my halter top.”

Rick smiled at the picture that presented before turning serious again.

“At least you would have been safe.”

“Look Rick, I’m the COP, you’re the big POP star. I’m supposed to keep YOU safe, not the other way around.”

“I know, I know.” Rick said, putting up a hand, “You keep reminding me.”

“Good.”

“I didn’t know you had a gun.” He said then.

“What?” she wasn’t sure she’d heard him correctly.

“You never told me you had a gun.”

“I’m a COP. Of course I have a gun.” She answered with a shrug. “How did you know?”

“The paramedics found it on you.” Rick told her.

Abigail nodded.

“Have you ever used it on anyone?” he asked.

She didn’t look at him.

“Maybe once or twice.”

“You ever killed anyone?” Rick asked. The question made her eyes meet his.

“No.”

“I’m sorry.”

“For what?” she asked startled.

“For upsetting you.”

He was very perceptive, she’d noticed, especially when it came to her. That wasn’t good.

“I’m not upset really. I just don’t like to talk about it.” She said.

He nodded, understanding what she meant. The phone rang then. Rick answered it then turned back to her.

“You ready to go?” he asked her, picking up the bags. She nodded. “Ever been to the Florida keys?” he asked then.

“Nope.”

“Then this should be fun. All beach and hot sun.”
