Chapter 85
Somehow today, Letta felt incredibly awkward when she opened the shop with Sean, just the two of them. Letta hadn't even said a word when they crossed paths from the house to the shop, and neither had Sean. But looking at his expression, Sean seemed unaffected, whereas Letta still appeared uneasy. Letta immediately pictured how she had spent the previous night with Sean.
"If you keep daydreaming like that, the fried chicken in front of you might come back to life and attack your face with its hot oil," Sean said, causing Letta to startle, blinking at her nearly brown fried chicken. This made Letta quickly move to lift it.
"Forgive me," Letta said, as Sean took over the frying pan and shifted, prompting Letta to step back from the frying area.
"You better just chop the seasonings, I'll fry the chicken," Sean said, making Letta nod. They were now facing away from each other, with Sean occasionally glancing at Letta's small figure.
"Do you feel awkward around me?" Sean asked again, causing Letta to stop her hand movements.
"Can I be honest?" Letta asked, making Sean nod.
"Isn't it that you're supposed to be honest?" Sean replied.
"Well, actually. I mean, I'm the kind of woman who rarely gets expressions of affection like that from a man, and you really surprised me last night. I mean, we haven't known each other for long, and you suddenly say you like me and propose marriage. Of course, what woman wouldn't be surprised by a proposal like that," Letta said, making Sean turn back to look at Letta, who finally followed to meet Sean's gaze.
"So what do you think is normal? Can someone like someone or propose to someone if they've known each other for a long time?" Sean asked again, making Letta shake her head.
"No, it's not like that. But like I said, I rarely get affection like that, and yes, it did catch me off guard. So, I don't know if you were just joking or really expressing your current feelings," Letta said again, making Sean nod.
"Yes, I'm the kind of person who will say what I feel at the moment. For example, if you make a mistake, if you make me angry, if you impress me, I'm the type who will tell you. Similarly, if I still like you, if I feel amazed, I'm the type who will immediately tell you. Maybe it did surprise you, but I can assure you that I wasn't joking. I'm sure of what I said to you last night," Sean said, seemingly convincing Letta, who nodded in agreement.
"Do I have to answer that?" Letta asked again, making Sean shake his head.
"Not now, maybe as you said, you're surprised. So you can think about it. I also know you're not the type of woman who will instantly like someone just because they spent a few days together," Sean said, making Letta nod. Sean's words were really accurate. Even to like someone like Abian, it took Letta some time to realize her feelings and reciprocate Abian's feelings. Especially with her knowing Sean for only a few days, Letta couldn't make a quick decision, and they didn't really know each other.
"Okay, I'll think about it, but I can't promise to reciprocate your feelings," Letta said with a shy smile.
"Yes, I know, but at least I've expressed my feelings. But please, don't be awkward, just be like you were before, don't feel burdened by my expression of feelings," Sean said, making Letta nod.
"Maybe you should understand a little if I give you a little attention. I'm the type of person who can't sit still when I see someone I like," Sean said again, making Letta smile once more. Letta didn't know what to comment. Letta then continued her hand movements to chop and help. In a few hours, their shop would be open.
"Last night, my mother called. She said she wanted to bring you something," Sean asked, making Letta shake her head.
"It's not necessary. With Meri coming back, I'm already happy," Letta said, making Sean nod.
"Yes, I knew your answer would be like that. So I asked my mother to bring apples that were actually planted by my grandmother herself. The apples there are very sweet, although they're not very red, but I'm sure you'll like them," Sean said again, making Letta nod.
"Yes, I look forward to the apples," Letta replied, until finally, they opened the shop, welcoming some customers. With Letta serving the customers in the shop, and Sean taking some orders over the phone, just like the day before. They seemed busy with each other, and the bustling atmosphere of the shop allowed Sean and Letta to close the shop earlier than the previous days, looking at some chicken packages that had to be delivered, as well as seeing the chicken that had sold out. "You can close the shop; I'll deliver a few more packages and also need to go somewhere," Sean said, making Letta look towards the shop.
"Yes, okay. After I tidy up the shop, I'll close it right away, and you can go straight home," Letta said, making Sean nod. Sean then chose to take the packages, and Letta cleaned the shop. However, before that, Sean remembered Letta's phone with a cracked screen that seemed to need some other repairs.
Sean's movement halted when he suddenly remembered Letta's phone lying there with its screen cracked and seemingly needing other services. Sean immediately took it. He would fix it; surely Letta would be happy, Sean's thought finally carrying along Letta's phone as he delivered some chicken packages.
Meanwhile, Letta finished all the work in her shop. Everything looked clean. So, when Meri came tomorrow, both Meri and herself could open it directly without having to clean it first, as Letta had said earlier. Letta immediately closed the shop and made sure all the windows and doors were locked before walking back to Meri's house. On the way, Letta couldn't stop smiling, remembering how she suddenly received a declaration of affection and a proposal in quick succession. And it was the first time for Letta.
Letta just kept smiling, but the next second, Letta's smile stopped when she realized that she could finally laugh freely again like last night. It was the first time Letta had felt that laughter in a long time, unable to express herself like that, making Letta immediately envision Marco looking at her with a cold gaze. Just the thought of it made Letta's whole body tremble with fear.
