Their Mate, My Saviors Chapter 16
-POV Richard-
Where is she?! How can it be this difficult to find one stupid girl?! She has no money, no family and nowhere to go! How can she keep evading me? I slammed my hand on the solid wood desk in my office. Obviously, every single man that has come to me with bad news has been fired. The last one was Jared. The one person I trusted to keep her in the house and he lets her walk right out the back door! He should be lucky that I waited this long to sack him!
She didn't even take anything. There is no way she could have gotten far enough to evade me! She...she.... Ugh! "Sir. A call for you on line three." My assistant called. "Yes, yes!" I shouted back. I slammed my finger down on the button. "Speak!" I growled.
"Now, is that any way to talk to your father?" Sh*t. I will fire that girl for not giving me warning. The damn rules are so simple. Why in the world does everyone keep breaking them?! "Don't you fire Kelly for doing her job. You just listen. I heard that you fired all your home-bound security when you got home from Italy last week. Is there a reason I need to know about?"
"Nothing, sir." I said through gritted teeth.
"Good...good. I know you have a tendency to get involved in stupid ventures to make an extra buck. I am working to become the lobbyist of our new senator and I will not allow you to mess it up. Am I clear?" He warned right back. "Crystal." I answered.
"Good, then stop looking for that girl and get on with your life. You have a fiancé and I'm sure she would not appreciate the knowledge of some other woman taking up your time. Neither will the press. Let her go. The fact that she even exists is a political nightmare anyway!" D*mn.Visit Job nib-.com to read the complete chapters for free. How did he know about her? I never took her anywhere and I made sure she was locked in the house. "The silence tells me my informant is correct. Next time you want to have an in-home slave, maybe you should lock her up with a chain." He growled before ending the call.
I shouted, hollered, and threw my phone at the wall. The receptionist came running in and I stared her straight in the eye. "Don't just stand there! Get me another phone!" I shouted. That girl is not going to get away so easily! I will not be made a fool of! -POV Ayame-
It's been a month since I came to live with the triplets. Conri and Edon have been really sweet to me and all my wounds are finally healed. Vilkas is still like a patch of Icy-Hot, and I'm just going with the flow...avoiding him when I can. Luckily, today is the day I can finally go outside and enjoy the outdoors without one of the triplets shadowing me.
Shockingly enough, I was itching for a run. The one thing I can't stand is now something I am quite interested in continuing. I stared at myself in my bathroom mirror and tied my hair into a ponytail. Then, I pulled on my pink sports bra and white long-sleeved thermal. I pulled on black running pants and my new sneakers.
I grabbed my phone the minute a ping rang through the room. "Hey, I'm downstairs." It was Emily, the clerk I met at the store a while back. Yay. The girls I met associated with the alphas' escapades weren't a great representation of the women in their pack. Emily has been nothing but nice and I could even put Elizebeth in there too. I didn't hesitate to give the females a second chance with those two at the forefront.
I bounced out of my room and skidded to a halt in front of Vilkas. "And where is this little rabbit going?" He asked with a snarky undertone. Ugh with the nicknames. They all really like nicknames.
"I'm just going for a run." I smiled brightly. Not going to let him annoy me today.
"At 6am?" He asked and I realized he was already dressed for the day as well. Black slacks and a gray crew neck sweater.
"Yes, at 6am. It's the best time to run and I haven't been able to in almost a month. I'm going crazy here." I said impatiently. Over the weeks, it has gotten easier to talk to Vilkas, but he's still...well... Vilkas. I didn't want Emily to wait for too long. "Right. One of us can't come with you. See if Kyle will go. He's probably in the kitchen."
"I don't need him to go, Vil." I whimpered. "I'll be fine."
He cleared his throat at the mention of his nickname from my lips. It was new to me too. "Take Kyle." He answered sternly before walking off.
I wanted to listen to him, but I'm literally just going to run along the tree line. I don't need to take Kyle with me. I ran down the stairs and landed on Emily's back. "Hey! You literally are a spider monkey!" She said with a laugh that lit up the room. "I am! Now it's time to run. Let's go before the boys come to chase me."
She snorted at that one and ran out the door with me on her back. "You know, you can't just call them boys. They are the alphas, you know." Emily was a werewolf like Vilkas, Vince, and Charlie. She told me that it is the most common shifter species out of everyone. Next are the leopards and tigers, then Lycans, and finally werebears. All in ranking order from common to rare. I didn't know that Edon was such a priceless commodity, but he was the strongest out of the three even though he decided to let Conri lead.
Emily let me down and I finally touched the snow around me. It was nice. There was still some snow sticking but it wasn't bad out here with the proper clothing. "I know I know...ranked members of the pack. Got it." I giggled lightly.
Once Vilkas got my phone from the store, I was able to find Emily again and ask for her number. She has become a great friend while I was here, but she is really busy, so this is the first time I've seen her since I asked for her number. Her parents live further north, so she isn't too close, but we seem to manage. She's twenty-two and the store she runs is her mother's. She was recovering from surgery, so Emily had no help. I offered but she straight up ignored me.
Now her mom is finally back to work, and she can hang out with me. Either way, now I get to run with a werewolf. We started our jog, and as promised, we stayed on the tree line. The town was so pretty. It looked like any other suburb. You would have no idea there were supernatural beings living here. Simple one-or-two-story homes. Nice sized front yards and cars in most of the driveways. Kids playing outside, building snowmen or having snowball fights. We even had to dodge a few snowballs ourselves. Just like any other morning in the human cities. "About ready to head back?" Emily asked, jogging around me. We have been out here for over an hour now...probably two since I had to run so slowly on my ankle. Wolves have some kind of energy I didn't think existed.
"Yeah. I think it's a good time to turn back." I agreed. We went out about five miles.
"Fine by me." She added and glanced at my neck. The run continued and she did it again.
I winced and looked down as if that would tell me what I needed to know. "Is something wrong?"
She blushed and shook her head. "No, I was just curious about something is all." She said hurriedly.
"About what?" I asked, begging her not to ask me about the scar that trails up to my cheek. That had to be the only reason why she kept looking at my neck.
"Oh...um...you don't have any marks."
I came to a stop and looked up at her. "Marks? Oh please, I have plenty of those."
She shook her head. "No, not scars, marks. Like when a mated pair meet, they um...consummate the bond with a mark and... mating." She said slowly, beyond embarrassed.
My cheeks flared red and I looked at her while she rubbed the back of her neck. "That's real too?!"
She stared at me for a second then started laughing. "What do you mean real? Of course, it's real. That is the most sacred bond between shifters."
"Human, remember. I only know what my mom told me and what the triplets clarify." I added with a giggle.
"Alphas." That wasn't Emily. I spun around to meet Malerie, the brunette girl and the red head from the first week I was here. They stayed away from me after that day, but I wasn't on the fifth floor anymore. I was now fair game. "Excuse me?" I asked, confused.
"Oh...she speaks. Let me repeat myself only this once, they are alphas." The red head said arrogantly. "The last time we met, I thought I scared this whore to silence. Now, she has the audacity to talk about our men in such familiar terms." "Adolpha, that's not nice." Emily said curtly when she grabbed my arm and yanked me back. I was starting to have a feeling that Emily wanted me to keep walking.
"I don't care. She is worth nothing to anyone in this pack. She's just a stupid human. Childish and ignorant. I don't know why they keep you around, but I'm sure it will be short-lived. I have already talked to Conri and he seems bored with you already. Expected." Adolpha talked to Conri? When did they even meet up? All three of them are always around me and they make sure to tell me where they are going, even if I don't care to know. So how...?
"Ayame! Let's go." Emily continued to pull me and the girls started laughing.
"Ayame? That's your name. Disgusting!" Malerie said through her fits of laughter.
I turned on my heels and walked away. Emily is right, it's time to leave. "Ayame!" Oh, thank the goddess. Strange. I don't know when that saying rubbed off on me. Kyle ran up to me and picked me up off the floor. "Hey! Put me down." I shouted, and slapped his shoulder.
"Nope! This is what you get for getting me in trouble!" Kyle whined mockingly before heaving me over his shoulder and catching me by the ankles.
"Sh*t! Kyle! Down, now!" I ordered this time and he carefully pulled me back over his shoulder and I huffed, resituating my hair back into a pony tail and adjusting my shirt. But apparently it wasn't quick enough. "Wow...you really are damaged goods, I've seen less scars on a warrior than on you. Even your face is deformed." Malerie spat back.
I have no idea why she - the triplets' sister - hates me so much and I really don't care, but I have been fine for three weeks and she just had to bring up my scars. I took a deep breath. "I'll head back. No need for punishment." I smiled forcibly and Kyle looked at me worriedly before turning to Malerie.
Let's just say he put the fear of the goddess in those girls all of a sudden because the little brunette even broke a heel trying to back away from him. Who wears heels in the snow? "Kyle, they aren't worth it. Come on." I said, trying to keep the mood light. Just like with Edon, but not as terrifying. He pulled away from my hand and continued to walk towards the girls.
"Hey!" Emily said, standing in front of Kyle. Their eyes locked and she gasped. Before I could breathe, Kyle and Emily were making out.
"Well, this is an interesting turn of events." Vince said with a chuckle. When did he get here? "Come on. They will be a while. Lucky for Malerie, your friend is also the next beta female. That's the best distraction as any." He dropped his arm on my shoulder and walked me back to the pack house.
I was too shocked to resist.
When we got back to the house, we went to the office on the first floor. I've never been in this room before. I've never really seen the first floor at all really. The office was a duplicate of the one upstairs though. Vince closed the door behind us and I pulled the hair away from my face. "Where is Kyle?" Edon asked.
Vince smirked and plopped on the leather couch cushions. "He's...indisposed at the moment."
"So first, he lets you leave by yourself and then he disappears when he goes to look for you?" Conri growled.
I shook my head. "No! That's not it.... I umm...I didn't tell him I was leaving. I was completely safe. We stayed on the tree line and we didn't go into the city. We were coming back when Kyle saw us."
"Then where is he now?" Conri asked irritably.
"Like I said...indisposed." Vince added, straightening some paperwork.
"He's about to be unconscious." Vilkas grumbled. See what I mean...the ice is starting to melt.
"But it wasn't his fault. I just thought that I'd be fine on my own and I wasn't wrong. Emily was super aware of our surroundings and she kept pace with me so I wasn't left alone."
"Wrong Ayame." Vilkas added, coolly. "You cannot be left alone with anyone we don't know or trust!" And...we are icy again.
"But I -"
"What did I miss?" Kyle said, beyond out of breath. I thought they wouldn't be coming back this way after that kiss. Vince and I didn't even attempt to pull them apart. The room was silent for a second. "And...I'm in trouble." "Trouble for what?" Emily asked, peering from behind him.
