The Transfer

Chapter 28 - Damned Firecracker

Time passed uncomfortably slow. I stood by the front door in Liam's arms, listening to the commotion outside as it unwrapped quickly. I didn't hear much talking, only loud growls and angry huffs. I heard snapping teeth, the sound of thudding in the dirt and grass and even a whimper or two.

I wasn't even sure who was outside anymore. I stopped paying attention the moment I buried myself in Liam's chest. I didn't want to face what was outside. I didn't want to face the truth or any of the reality.

I shuddered a little as I felt anger from several different wolves seeping through the front door. It was strong and felt like a damn firecracker. It was confronting.

"Woah, woah. Shit," Liam suddenly hissed. He released me quickly and sprinted outside. I heard his feet thudding before halting to a stop. I held my breath as I peeked around the corner.

Liam jumped in front of Samaya, pushing him in the chest and away from the guy that he was shooting mental daggers at. I held my breath.

"Don't do it man. You'll regret it," Liam said, not letting Samaya move past him. My brother didn't look at Liam, and he kept trying to move forwards.

Liam didn't let him past. He kept pushing him back, shoving and pushing until Samaya finally landed on his ass. He growled deeply and Liam glanced back at the man who was behind him.

"I suggest you back the fuck off before I let him tear your head off,” Liam growled at the man who I barely recognised. He must've been one of Brennon's men.

Beckett had shifted. So had Rae and Jax. They were in wolf form and all stood growling at four other wolves before them, Brennon one of them.

Beckett was slightly bleeding, as was Brennon. They must have fought with each other already. I must say, Brennon looked more hurt than Beckett did.

That made my beast a little more calm.

I looked back to Liam and saw him help Samaya to his feet. Liam growled warningly at Samaya when he tried to push past him again. The other wolf had backed off now and was shooting glares in Samaya's direction.

My brothers were pissed. I could feel how badly each of them were angry. It made me angry too, but I was more frightened than anything at this point. I couldn't act off my feelings right now. I had to be reasonable.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and I jumped. I spun around quickly, my eyes meeting Lila's. She smiled weakly at me.

"Don't worry about what's going on out there, Ali. He's just trying to get you upset. It's all he wants,” Lila told me. I knew she was talking about Brennon but I was still bothered

She was right. I knew she was. But I hated it. I hated that Brennon had this affect over me. I hated how he wasn't being punished for what he did and I especially didn't like how angry he was making my brothers.

I glanced outside again, and Lila looked with me this time. Liam was still trying to keep Samaya under control whilst Rae and Jax were edging on Beckett to attack Brennon again.

They all burned hot with energy. I had never seen them this angry before. It frightened me.

"I knew that coming here was a mistake. I should have just met them at the border," I sighed out as I turned away. Lila shook her head at me and engulfed me in a tight hug. She rubbed her cheek against mine, and my beast felt a little more calm.

"Some things just don't go our way sometimes, Ali. It's not your fault,” Lila said with an emphatic expression.

I looked outside again. Samaya and Liam were now walking walking over to where my other brothers were stood. Samaya said something to Beckett that I didn't quite catch and his wolf huffed. Rae and Jax hung their heads as Liam shoot them both a look. They both turned away and bounded off, disappearing from my sight. They returned moments later in their skin, now wearing shorts.

I felt Liam's relief. It calmed me more to know that he was calming down now. I felt better knowing that he wasn't stressed or upset about this either.

"You okay up there, sugar?" Liam asked me without looking in my direction. His eyes were fixed on Beckett who looked like he was about to pounce on Brennon and tear his throat out.

Lila placed her hand on my shoulder again and I felt a little more calm. But I really didn't feel okay. I was shaken up and I couldn't stop my hands from trembling terribly. I wanted to cry but I held back the tears.

"Lila, how about you go and finish eating? Your food will go cold,” I heard from behind me. I knew it was Justin, I recognised him by his scent.

Lila squeezed my shoulder assuringly and then lifted her hand and walked away. Justin appeared next to me and sighed softly as he leaned against the door frame.

"I'm okay," I said to Liam. My beast lowly growled at me for lying. She didn't like that I wasn't being honest with Liam.

"It's been real tense since you left. The pack is practically divided in two. Half sucking up to Brennon and his clonies, the other half agreeing with everything that your brothers have to say about the terrible leadership of this pack,” Justin told me with a deep sigh. I heard the dread in his voice and felt his sadness.

What wolf wouldn't be upset about their pack falling apart?

I felt guilty. Had this only happened because I left? Or were people starting to come to realisations? "I think things will change when Beckett takes over. He's going to be a good Alpha. He'll save this pack,” I said honestly. My brother was an incredible leader. Ever since I can remember, he'd always been a natural at leading.

It started as being bossy, but it transformed. It's still changing and he's still growing and getting stronger. But I couldn't wait for him to take over and become the real Alpha that Terialta needed him to be.

"The pack needs Beckett. Your father... his sadness is fuelled all by what happened with your mother all those years ago. It's taking a huge toll on the pack. That's why it sucks here. Honestly, Ali, I'm really happy that you left. I can't say what's going to happen to Terialta if something doesn't change real soon," Justin explained to me. My wolf growled in sadness.

This was our real home. The place we were born and raised. It saddened my wolf and I greatly to know that this place was falling apart.

"I know that it sucks right now, Justin. But it'll get better," I said to him, putting my hand on his arm to comfort him. He nodder at me and I rubbed my eyes with my hands; tired.

I lookEd back out to everyone and jumpkd out the way as my brothers storm into the house, each of them looking equally as pissed as the other. Liam came through last and Justin followed my brothers.

"Are you sure you're okay? Who was that guy?" Liam asked me. I looked back outside again and made eye contact with Brennon. He was still in wolf form and had his eyes on me like a hawk. I narrowed my eyes at him and shut the front door.

"He's just some asshole. We've never liked each other," I replied. I didn't like lying to him, but I had to. I wasn't ready to tell him about Brennon yet. I didn't feel like him knowing about my sad life. Liam questioningly looked at me. I think he knew I wasn't being completely honest with him, but he didn't say anything more. He leaned forwards and kissed my forehead again.

The bond crackled and sparked like wild electricity and flames. I smiled at him weakly before we returned back to the dining room where everyone was sat. Beckett and Lauri were missing, but the others were there.

The room was warm with energy and anger. I felt as if I might break a sweat.

I sat down anyway and cleared my throat as I looked to Justin. "Thank you for the food, Justin." Everyone started to thank Justin who took all the compliments and then asked for more. I smiled gratefully at his sense of humour. I was so glad that he was lightening the mood at least a little. Everyone ate in silence until Kade burped loudly, which made everyone laugh. Lila and I made eye contact and she rolled her eyes. I couldn't help but smirk.

"Henry is requesting that we head home now. I think he's pissed that we extended our trip," Ezra suddenly told me. I rolled my eyes and stood. I took my dirty dishes to the kitchen and placed them neatly in the sink.

"We better get going. We have requests from the Alpha to head back," I said out loud with a soft sigh. I looked up at everyone and they all nodded at me.

Everyone took their dishes to the sink. I turned and said goodbye to Justin, in which he returned with a tight hug.

"Don’t come back until things are safe," Justin told me. I pulled away from him and frowned. I saw the fear and the doubt in his eyes.

"What do you mean?" I asked him. Justin shook his head and turned away as he shook hands with the guys and then smiled at Lila.

Were things here really that bad? What was truly going on?

"Where'd Beckett and Lauri go?” I asked. Rae scoffed and rolled his eyes. Jax groaned at me and Samaya just smirked and rolled his eyes also.

"Probably screwing each other somewhere. They're literally dogs on heat all the time," Rae retorted with an irritated huff. I screwed up my nose in disgust.

"Don't worry about it. I'll tell them you said goodbye. You'll probably see us soon anyway,” Samaya told me. I nodded at him and we left the house.

My brothers walked my friends and I back to the car. We passed by a group of patrols on a trail and they nodded respectfully towards us as they passed.

When we reached the car, the others said goodbye to my brothers first and then got into the car. Ezra gave Samaya a stern look after they shook hands and Samaya nodded his head. I assumed they were linking with each other.

"Train hard so next time you see me, we can have a go at each other," Jax told me as he hugged me tightly. I rolled my eyes at him. That was something I looked forward to already.

"Keep that mate of yours in line. That neck will stay bare as long as I'm alive," Rae told me when he hugged me. He kissed my hair and chuckled deeply.

"You're a dick," I told him. He shrugged at me and smirked anyway. He knew he was an asshole.

I hugged Samaya and squeezed him tightly. I was going to miss all of them deeply. It was hard enough adjusting to a new pack, as well as not being able to do it with my own brothers by my side. "Stay out of trouble. We'll all keep in touch,” Samaya said to me. I pulled away and he kissed my forehead.

"Okay, Sam. I will... bye everyone. Don't miss me too much,” I said with a goofy smile as I jumped into the truck. They all waved at me as Ezra started the engine and then quickly drove away.

I sighed as I relaxed into my seat and rubbed my forehead. I was exhausted from today, but I was glad that I got to see my brothers again. I hadn't realised how much I actually missed them until I saw them.

"I think there's going to be some serious changes in Terialta soon," Ezra told me through a private link. I rested my head against to window and nodded slightly. He was right.

"There has to be. Things will fall apart if something doesn't change soon," I replied as I glanced in the review mirror. I looked at Liam, who was already looking at me.

His eyes gazed into mine and I offered a small smile. He returned it before I looked away and focused on the drive home.
