"It's exactly what you're thinking," Hendrix said.
But it took Noelle a moment to catch on. "What is it?"
"Hmm? Doesn't anything come to mind when you see this photo and the timestamp?"
Noelle took a deep breath. "So, what you're saying is that your father knew Nathan's mother first. And the reason he married your mother was because of her looks?"
"Yes." Hendrix's reply was crisp and decisive.
What had once seemed absurd and far-fetched was now an undeniable truth.
Noelle opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but in the end, she fell silent.
Hendrix let out a soft chuckle. "So you see, doesn't it make sense now? Why do Nathan and I look so alike? Turns out, our mothers were nearly identical!"
"Did Beatrice just find out?" Noelle asked softly.
"Yeah. She always knew that my dad had another family out there, but she never imagined that the woman would look so much like her. That, in the end, she was nothing more than a substitute.
"She only found out because, when my grandma wanted to bring Nathan back into the family back then, she opposed
"In response, my grandma told her-if those two hadn't missed their chance back then, she never would have even had the opportunity of marrying into the family. That she was the real homewrecker in their relationship, nothing more than a thief enjoying a life that was never meant to be hers."
His voice remained calm, but a slight furrow creased his brows.
Noelle clenched her hands instinctively. "Did your mother tell you all of this?"
"Yeah."
"So, the two of you..."
"I suppose we've made peace." Hendrix lowered his gaze, idly twisting the wedding band on his finger.
His tone was indifferent, but Noelle caught the faint trace of unease beneath it.
"I've already promised her that I'll take care of everything regarding Nathan. She just needs to focus on getting better," Hendrix added.
No wonder he was in such a good mood today.
But as those words settled, Noelle felt her own heart slowly sink.
Hendrix turned to her again. "So, are you worried about me or about her?"
He was still absentmindedly twisting the ring on his finger, but his gaze was locked onto Noelle, waiting for her
answer.
Noelle pressed her lips together, just about to respond when he suddenly spoke again.
He said, "Forget it. In the end, whatever the reason, it all comes back to me anyway. After all, if it weren't
for me, what connection would you have with my mom in the first place?"

As he spoke, his lips slowly curled into a smile.
Noelle frowned slightly but didn't refute him.
Hendrix's smile deepened even further.
Just then, the hotel staff arrived with their order. Without hesitation, Hendrix got up to receive it.
Noelle could hear him speaking to the delivery person at the entrance, but her mind was still occupied with what he had just said.
Suddenly, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID, but before she could decide whether to answer, Hendrix had already returned.
She quickly put her phone away.
Her movement was swift, but Hendrix still noticed. However, he didn't ask. He simply placed the food in front of her.
When she saw the bread pudding, she froze for a moment.
"You didn't get to have them yesterday, so I made up for it today," he said.
"Oh," Noelle responded softly before lowering her head to take a bite. Hendrix paused for a moment, then asked, "Who called you just now?"
