Chapter 6: Scheduling A Meeting
An hour later, Morton arrived at the Laurier Group president’s office, documents in tow. The man behind the mahogany desk was buried in his work, but the musculature of his body visible through the gray suit he wore made for an intimidating atmosphere nonetheless.
Morton placed the papers on the table. “Mr. Laurier, Ms. Ayesa signed it.”
“What did she think of it?”
“Very happy,” Morton answered truthfully. “Ms. Ayesa thought it was a breakup gift, so she signed it quickly. She also said she saw the news this morning and that Ms. Duke’s a better fit for you.”
Stan Laurier snorted and flipped open the documents. A sticky note caught his eye, words of thanks and a red lipstick imprint all over. The lipstick marks were perfect, indicating that a perfect mouth had pressed them there, and Stan felt himself growing angry.
It was obvious that this woman was putting on an act around him, whether she was moaning or.giggling, but he’d fallen for it all and kept her around anyway. A year was a long time, and he’d gotten tired of it- but he hadn’t expected her to be even more restless, always looking for a chance to kick him to the

Seeing that his boss had gone silent, Morton added, “Mr. Laurier, when I got there, Ms. Ayesa was talking to a man in the dressing room.”
At that, Stan looked up, eyes dark. “Who?”
“I think it was Ryan Hyde, the up–and–coming star.” Morton coughed, uncomfortable now. “I didn’t go in, but I heard Ms. Ayesa say that you were good in bed, and that she liked you…”
An indifferent sort of smile spread across Stan’s face. “She speaks so well of me, but spends all her time looking for another man. Well, she’s found a good replacement.”
Privately, Morton agreed. Elsa Ayesa was charming and delicate, pulling men in left and right.
But he didn’t dare say so. Not to his own boss, at least. “Mr. Laurier, your flight is at 7 P.M. You should head to the M. You should head to the airport.”
Stan stared down at the sticky note in his hand and the bright red lipstick on it. “Reschedule it to noon tomorrow.”
So she’d been overjoyed to see that document. He’d like to see that for himself.

Stan put the sticky note back into the papers and turned to Morton. “Take care of those trashy articles online, and the magazine that published the exclusive scoop.”
“Yes, sir.” Morton mourned the magazine company’s fate for a moment. Everyone knew about Stan Laurier’s temper, so why had they gone along with Dana Duke’s ideas?
Elsa was exhausted after her long day at the studio. When she went into the newsroom to look for Cherry, Cherry called her to let her know that she’d gone to see her father, but she would make anything Elsa wanted for dinner tomorrow night.
This dropped Elsa’s spirits again, and she didn’t feel like going back home now, so she went to the bar with plans to get drunk.
She had a lot to think about, now that Ryan had showed up and run his mouth. Elsa ordered drink after drink, emptying every single one. How could she forget the love she’d had for someone?
Even with heavy makeup on, Elsa couldn’t hide her beauty, and eventually she gathered too much attention. Men approached her most of the night, trying to strike up a

conversation, but she impatiently brushed them off one by
one.
After a particularly bad attempt, she took off one of her heels and whacked the man over the head with it. Curses followed, and nobody approached her after that.
Elsa downed another three drinks, and her vision was getting blurry. She’d practically collapsed over the bar counter when
she heard a voice.
“Ms. Ayesa, Mr. Laurier would like to speak with you.‘
She had no idea who was talking to her, but then she was being dragged along, stumbling and muttering drunkenly. “Who does he think he is? What am I, an escort?”
