Chapter 85
Chapter 85
He knew this very well.
Their relationship was clear from the beginning.
After hanging up, Alexandra put down her phone and looked up at Julian. “Mr. Ranford, what did you just say?”
“It’s nothing. Rest early. I’ll go to the study to deal with some work.”
“All right.” Alexandra nodded.
Julian still wanted to say something, but the words were stuck in his throat. There was nothing he could say.
Although Alexandra had not been in school for the past few days, the people in school were not idle.
Martha held the evidence of Alexandra being kept as a mistress in her hands as she worked hard to come up with a script to destroy her.
Martha had become popular in the socialite circle in school over the past few days as her family’s company was about to go public.
That was how the circle of tycoons was. Whoever was doing well in the business world would become the center of attention.
At noon, Martha was surrounded by a group of people in the school’s restaurant selling Western cuisine.
“Martha, I heard that your company will be going public very soon? My dad is a shareholder!”
“My uncle also said that the industry your family invested in has a lot of prospects. He said that several mysterious major shareholders have invested a lot of money!”
A rich kid who was interested in business also said, “I heard that your company’s market value has already exceeded 850 million! There have been many big buyers taking note of your company these days!”
Martha smiled charmingly when she heard these compliments and exclamations. She saw Emery eating steak alone at a table from the corner of her
eye.
She said to them, “Isn’t that so? My father invited an expert to take a look this time. The expert said that we’ve invested in rising industries and their market value could triple in three years!”
“Wow! Your father is so awesome! When I get back, I’ll get my father to invest in your company too!”
Martha said, “You’ll have to hurry up. Don’t let others reap all the benefits and leave nothing for you.”
With that, Martha stood up on her high heels and walked over to Emery.
Emery did not expect them to be in this restaurant. There were all kinds of restaurants in the school, including restaurants that sold Western cuisine as
well as cuisines from all over the world.
She would not have come if she had known that they were here.
Martha crossed her arms and looked down at Emery, who was silently eating her steak. “Oh? You’re eating alone? Where’s your little sidekick,
Alexandra?”
Emery revealed a disgusted expression. She looked up with a cold gaze. “Martha, are you done? I didn’t provoke you, so don’t bother me.”
Martha clicked her tongue. “You’re really Alexandra’s best friend. It’s just that I didn’t expect you to be so good to Alexandra. You actually gave her to your brother’s business partner as a mistress! What an eye–opener!”
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
“You’ll find out soon enough whether I’m talking nonsense or not. A country girl like her can’t resist the temptation! As expected, how else could she afford a bag from Jolie Cepfer Mall? Looks like that man is quite generous to Alexandra!”
“Martha, don’t slander Alex! I won’t allow you to slander Alex!” Emery was no fool. Martha was clearly hinting that Alexandra was a kept woman.
She believed that Alexandra was not that kind of person.
Martha smiled. “Then just wait and see.”
Just as she was about to turn around and leave, she suddenly thought of something and turned around again. “Hey, I heard from my father that your brother even invested a sum of money into our company!”
“What?” Emery was dumbfounded.
Martha wanted to see Emery’s expression. She said, “That’s right. Everyone in the outside world says that our company has a bright future. Businessmen are all trying to make money. Your brother would naturally want a share!”
With that, Martha walked away in small steps.
Emery was left alone, feeling dejected as she thought, “Has my brother really invested in the Connolly family?”
Emery was still extremely depressed when she came out of the restaurant.
Chapter 85
However, she had never told her family about school. She did not want them to think that she was useless and would only be mocked and bullied at school.
Sitting in the classroom, Emery sent Alexandra a WhatsApp message. “Alex, are you feeling better?”
Alexandra was eating snacks on the sofa. She replied when she saw Emery’s message, “Much better. I’ll come and play with you in a few days when I’m
free!”
As she replied, she looked at her feet and felt that she should be able to walk in a few days.
“Alex, I’m a little depressed.” Emery did not believe Martha at all, so she did not even mention what Martha had said about Alexandra being a kept
woman.
Alexandra asked her, “What’s wrong? Who bullied you? Tell me!”
Emery did not treat Alexandra as an outsider. She told Alexandra about Carson investing in the Connolly family’s business.
Alexandra knew that Emery did not like Martha. Alexandra expressed her understanding when she heard what Emery said. “Emery, I know you must be very angry. You can tell your brother! Tell him that Martha always bullies you and tell him not to get involved in their family’s business! Your brother is a good person. He will definitely listen to you.”
“Forget it. Alex, I don’t want to cause trouble for my family. What my brother invests in is his business. Why not carn money when there’s the opportunity to? I’m just disgusted. I don’t want to have anything to do with Martha.”
Alexandra could hear the loneliness and helplessness in her tone. She wished she could fly to Emery’s side and hug her.
“Unfortunately,” she thought when she saw her pink wheelchair and swollen ankle, “forget it.
“I’ll look for her when I’m better.”
Alexandra consoled Emery for a while before Emery’s class started.
The two of them ended the conversation.
Curious, Alexandra opened the business and financial news website that she had never logged into before. As expected, the market value of the Connolly family’s Lapson Group had increased crazily in the past few days.
The information of the big investors was updated in real–time.
As she watched, Alexandra realized that something was wrong.
The Ranford Group had also bought in.
They had put in a lot of money.
Alexandra’s mood instantly soured.
The biscuits she was munching on were not so delicious anymore.
She could understand Emery’s feelings better now.
Although Julian was not her biological brother, she did not want Julian to invest in the Connolly family.
She hated Martha.
She finally got over it after being depressed for a while.
What company Julian invested in was his business.
Just as Emery had said, businessmen did it to make money.
How could Julian give up the opportunity to make a lot of money just because she did not like Martha?
Alexandra ate a piece of chocolate and then another, but she still felt depressed and could not eat anymore.
The chocolate was no longer tasty.
She really wanted to tell Julian not to invest in the Connolly family.
She really did not like Martha.
Really.
In the boss‘ office of Walters Securities.
Carson was working on his laptop when he heard an argument outside the door.
He looked up unhappily and saw the office door being pushed open.
His assistant ran into the office in a panic, while the other woman had already broken through all the obstacles.
Carson let go of the mouse and leaned back in his chair as he looked at the woman rushing In.
