Chapter Captured
The plastic ties against my wrist and ankles were really starting to irritate me.
Thank you brain for making me remember how much I hate being restrained.
I tried focusing on the low rumble of the truck to calm me down. I couldn’t talk to Luna in case they might hear us back here. She still looked over at me once in awhile, giving a small smile before looking back down at her feet. We have both been pulling at our restraints but nothing was working toward freeing us.
I take this anymore.
I slowly nudged my way over next to Luna. She noticed how distressed I was and nudged closer two. We got close enough to touch each, she smiled and leaned her head on my shoulder.
This is a little better.
We were still able to see the city passing by us in the windows. I was surprised about how fast we were going, especially with at the cars on the road.
Shock.
Oh yeah... hover technology.
Luna managed to get close enough to wrap her hands around my wrist then slide them down to my hand. I immediately intertwined our fingers. We both looked at each other and smiled.
Thank god she is here. I don’t think I could do this without her.
I looked back at the city flying past us until we started to slow down. Then we both saw it.
Both our eyes went wide at the site of central park packed with people. It looked like there was barely enough room to stand. Everyone’s faces were so scared and confused. There was a holographic barrier around the perimeter separating the guards standing on the outside from the people on the inside.
There are so many. All of them so scared. What are they going to do with all of them?
We suddenly stopped, jolting both of us forward then backward. Luna gave me one last smile while scooting away from me. My body instantly felt a lack of warmth when she left my side.
Just stay calm. It’s going to be okay if we just keep acting dumb.
The same guards that put us inside opened the doors and quickly grabbed us out of the truck. One of them started laughing, “I am pretty sure all those little scientists inside are going to have fun playing with you guys.”
He friends all began laughing too.
What are they going to do to us?
They took us inside of a building that looked like they had set up in the middle of the road. On inside it was all painted white and was filled with a lot of what looked like lab equipment. The smell of cleaning products hit my nose.
Shock.
It smells like a hospital in here.
It was a lot bigger than expected with a lot of space and even separate rooms branching off from the main area. About forty people in white coats were sitting at desks all writing or talking. Everyone was busy at work on something. A guard yelled out in the room, “Dr. Simon we have brought two subjects for you!”
A short guy with blonde hair stood up from his desk. He quickly adjusted his coat and pushed his glasses up “Dr. Simon is not available at the moment. You can put them in the cages over there. He already knows what happened. If he needs anything he will send for you.”
The guard simple nodded and we were being carried off in a different direction again. We were throw on top of a huge metal table. I hit my head and winced at the shock of pain.
I am used to it by now though.
A guard hit a button and a holographic box formed around me and another around Luna.
We are separated.
Luna’s bright eyes looked at me in fear as she examined the holographic boundary between us.
The guards looked at us weird and then ordered us to lift our hands up while showing us with their own hands. We did as we were told, without at first acting confused, and then the guard press another button that broke the restraints on our ankles and wrists off. I let out a sigh of relief as I rubbed my wrists. They were reddened from the tight contact.
I am glad those are off.
The guards gave one last look before filing out of the building.
And thank god they are gone.
We had barely enough room to sit in our boxes, there was no way we would be able to stand. The metal from the table beneath us was very cold too, causing me to shiver.
I looked over at Luna to see her leaning as close to the side of the box facing me as possible. I scooted over to the side and leaned against it too.
I wish I could feel her there. This is the first time we have been separated like this since we have met.
A scientist with brown, curly hair began making his way towards us.
Please stay away.
He kept his path and stood right in front of us, “Hey there. I am just coming to check on you guys.”
We both looked at him with wide eyes.
Go away. Please.
He began to press some buttons on the table pulling up holographic screens everywhere.
Of course, I can’t read a thing that he is looking at.
He smiled looking down at us once and awhile through his work, “You guys seem pretty healthy... weird... you brains are full of activity... more than the average human.”
He stared at Luna when she tensed up at his words.
I knew exactly what she was thinking.... She doesn’t want them to know we are different. She looks so scared. Just stay calm. We are going to be fine.
He smiled again, “Well I will check up on you guys later then.”
Luna visibly relaxed when he began to walk away. I looked over at her mouthing the words I am here when no one was looking. She relaxed a bit more and smiled. We both keep our heads down other than that.
Both our heads perked up though when we heard someone call out, “Dr. Simon!”
