By the time they had arrived back at Dark Shadow.. Paulina was having contractions.. and Perseus and Roman were beside themselves. Once they were all set up in the maternity ward.. the room was filled with a calming aura.. and Paulina’s pain level dropped.. The babies were healing her, as they moved into position.

Doc came in and examined her.. saying she was already completely effaced and dilated to a nine. Time to push was rapidly approaching. Doc broke her water and told the Alphas to get ready.

Paulina said “Oh sure, guys! By all means, y’all get ready! Want you both prepared to watch me struggle to push two linebackers out my hoo-ha!”

Roman said “I think she’s being sarcastic” and Perseus asked “Ya think!?” Mom laughed and said “I can relate! I will take some of the pain from her.. just you two! Be supportive.. one of you climb behind her.. while the other helps her hold her legs. Pushing requires every muscle in her body. She will need encouragement!”

Several hours later, Jayden and Cayden were brought into the world.. twenty two inches long.. a little over seven pounds each. The first two hours, after they arrived.. were spent with them screaming out their displeasure.

Once they had calmed down.. and were sleeping with warm clothes and full bellies.. their parents were able to truly appreciate their babies. Dark hair.. identical in every way but one.. Jayden had green eyes with blue undertones.. while Cayden had blue eyes with green undertones.

After that first night.. the three parents realized they would all be sleeping in shifts a few weeks, until the boys fell into their routines.

Renata and Orion spent as much time with the boys, as possible. She had complete conversations with them.. and they responded to her fairy side.. learning all about their talents.

The boys were two weeks old when the interrogation of Jack Black was held. He was brought to an interrogation cell.. and faced all the Demeter family. His focus remained on Paulina.. he wouldn’t respond to any of the questions asked.. unless Paulina repeated them.

Finally, she snapped! “I suggest you start cooperating. I am inches from snapping your fucking neck! This is a power play.. and I am done! I am rapidly reaching a point that I couldn’t give a shit if you have information or not! I would just as soon kill you and research on my own!”

Perseus bit his lip to keep from laughing. Renata suggested “Maybe he needs to choke awhile.. think about priorities… you know, a little incentive.. encouragement.. call it whatever you want.. but hopefully, he will start telling us something.. because he’s about to be drowning on his own saliva!”

They all looked at Black.. and he was turning blue.. gasping, trying to get air into his rapidly filling lungs. He signaled he was ready to talk.. Renata pulled back, and relaxed into her chair, with a grin.

He coughed.. cleared his throat “My Alpha.. Edward Wilde, of Ranger Grove Pack.. was in negotiations with Red Lake for a chosen bride.. a Desiree Harris. Before the deal was sealed, she met her true mate at Mountain Trail. My Alpha was so angry.. he sent my father and several warriors to abduct her.. they failed. Alpha Wilde was even more pissed and banished my father.. and our whole family. Word is, his son is now looking for a chosen. You are the best candidate. My plan was to hand you over to Ranger Grove.. and remove the blight from my family name. Attacking Mountain Trail was my revenge for what your parents did to mine!”

Paulina snapped “You fucking moron! Your Alpha is the one who sent your father on a fool’s errand. My parents, at least, allowed your father to survive an unprovoked attack against a pack that size! Your Alpha banished your family. And your twisted brain convinced you the Wildes would welcome you back with open arms. Dear Goddess! Are all criminals idiots?”

Roman started laughing “Baby! The majority of criminals are definitely not rocket scientists!” Perseus chimes in “I can see it.. ‘Mensa for Maniacs’”

Everyone laughed and Paulina stood to leave. “I have wasted enough of my life on this waste of space. My sons are calling me to come play.. Coming, Mom?” As Renata followed her out the door.. Orion yelled “What do we do with this idiot?”

Both women shouted “Kill him!”
