Chapter Ximun's Dilemma
AYSU
They walked for many minutes in silence and when Aysu could not take it anymore, she said, “How come you are very quiet?”
“I have nothing to say.”
“I find that hard to believe,” Aysu returned. “We just heard the most incredulous story and-”
“What if it is not incredulous?” Ximun asked out of nowhere.
Aysu furrowed her brows. “You believe that story?”
“Yes and now I am wondering what would have happened if my foolishness had made us miss each other again.”
“You believe that reincarnation tale?” Aysu’s voice was filled with disbelief.
So, Ximun stopped walking. “Is that a problem?”
“Not really, it’s just.”
“Imagine, Aysu.” His eyes met hers and a flame she was unfamiliar with was in them. “Just imagine the number of times we had to be reborn to figure out this curse. What if I had blown it for us?”
“Ximun, you didn’t blow it, okay?” Aysu found his level of self-blame bothering. “You and I are together right now because you fought for us even when I had given up on us. So, please don’t think that you almost ruined our relationship. You created a chance for us to live, Ximun.”
“I don’t…” Ximun heaved a heavy sigh and Aysu found it painful to see him that way because, at that point, she could deduce that inside his soul was a huge conflict of emotions. “Aysu, there is still a high chance I will ruin this. I already ruined a chance to break this curse when I allowed Mayana into our lives. If not, we’d be with child right now and we would be curse-free and we would probably still be in the pack and-”
“Breathe, Ximun,” Aysu implored him as she quickly reached to cup both sides of his face. “Please, breathe.”
He closed his eyes and the moment he did that, a few lines of tears rolled down his cheeks. That made Aysu’s heart heavier and she decided that she would do all she could to make him realise that all would be fine.
“Ximun,” she wiped the tears away, “please stop thinking that everything is your fault. Yes, you have made mistakes but so have I and despite those mistakes, we are here, together. We are here, trying to break the curse.”
“I know.” He opened his eyes and seemed more composed. Then, he held her shoulders. “I am aware of that, but I am really scared of what I could do in the near future. What if something similar to what happened to Montari happens to me?”
“You think you’ll become a sexual beast?”
Ximun laughed. “No. I think I might mess up on a very huge scale. I mean, I was not even able to protect my pack. I sat back and those council members used tactics to frame me perfectly. If that could happen, who knows how terribly I’ll handle our family.”
“Ximun, we need to have a proper talk about this.” She stepped back and held his hand. But for now, let’s continue our walk. It was very enjoyable earlier.”
“Yeah,” he replied. “Let’s do that.”
Aysu managed a smile because she saw how his eyes wrinkled with worry. But she said nothing. She just made sure she held his hand tight enough for him to know that she was there and that she’d always be there.

When they reached their house, Ximun called a meeting immediately.
Jindo and Gideon joined them in the living room.
And Ximun started talking. “I have come up with a strategy to stop Beta Richard’s plan, whatever it is.”
Aysu kept her eyes on him as he spoke. She felt her heart skip some more when she recalled Ximun’s words from earlier. And he must have felt what she was experiencing because he glanced in her direction briefly.
“Does it involve using the armoury I mentioned?” Jindo asked.
“We will definitely get to that part, Jindo. But it is still unclear which stage we are going to be needing them, so keep them handy.”
“Okay, master.”
“So, what is the plan?” Aysu asked.
“We have to meet with Chief Lambaba and tell him about the impending attack.”
“We have to do that? There’s no other option?” Aysu was very sceptical about that idea, her head tilted to the side as she wondered what was going through Ximun’s mind.
“I know it won’t be easy right now since we are now bad in his books but if we can find leverage over him, we can get him to stay calm and listen to what we have to say. Now, the only tricky part of that plan is that we don’t know for sure when Beta Richard will reach here, so it will be quite tasking to convince Lambaba to relocate his people if possible.”
“Actually,” Jindo raised his hand, “this pack has masking abilities.”
“Masking abilities?”
“Yes. We can make the pack look empty to the outside eyes. So, we will be able to see the intruder but the intruder won’t be able to see us.”
“Oh, damn,” Ximun exclaimed. “That makes things much better. I will make sure to mention that when I meet Lambaba. But there is the issue of getting manpower. If Beta Richard will be coming with a troop, we have to be equally ready in that sense even though we have the masking ability of the land as an advantage.”
“Jindo, do you think Lambaba will allow his troop to help us?” Aysu asked the man.
“We don’t have that here. You have to speak to the men of the pack to help you with that. But they are pretty hard-headed, they often refuse offers to render favours, so I am not sure if approaching them will work.”
Ximun clapped. “I will try my best to convince them. We have to make this plan work because we have limited resources. So, please nothing must go wrong. I will try my absolute best to convince those that need convincing so that it makes the operation smoother.”
“Master?” Jindo spoke. “Are we going to kill the intruder?”
Ximun and Gideon instantly faced Aysu. And that made sense since it was her father that was the intruder.
“Huh…” Aysu shrugged. “A life for a life? We have no choice, he has hurt a lot of people and there is a huge chance he is still doing that.”
Ximun sighed hard, almost as though he felt sorry that she had to make that choice. Then, he said, “Okay, Jindo, you heard Aysu. We won’t be sparing the intruder and that brings me to a very important point.” Ximun stabled his position and especially glared at Gideon. “If, at any point in our plan, I find out that a traitor is in our midst, believe me, I won’t spare that person. I will make life hell for that person and it won’t be the fine kind of hell. Okay?”
“Okay, master,” Jindo replied.
While Gideon stuttered. “O… okay.”
Then, the meeting came to an end and everyone went to face their respective plans for the rest of the night.
