Chapter The Elder's
After I was dressed, I met Bishop in his office, along with Deacon, Winston and Rose, Rhett and Reese and Travis, another one of Winston’s trackers. I stood next to Bishop’s desk as we waited for the four elders to arrive. Noticing how nervously I was tapping my foot on the floor, Bishop grabbed my hand and brought it to his lips, turning it over to kiss my palm.
A calming sensation washed over me as he smiled warmly at me. I blushed thinking about the others in the room seeing our intimate moment but when I looked around, everyone was engaged in their own conversations, oblivious to what Bishop and I were doing.
Just as he released my hand, the elders walked into his office and my nerves returned. They approached the desk and bowed their heads then Bishop introduced us.
“Sir Elliot, Councilman Brock, Councilman David and Councilman Jake, this Ember, my mate. Ember, these are the elders.”
“No need to be so formal, Bishop. We are just four extremely wealthy, wise, retired men who just happen to work for you. Ember, my dear, it is nice to finally meet you.” Sir Elliot said as he extended his hand.
Instantly, all the uneasiness left my body as this sincere older gentleman shook my hand.
“It is nice to meet you all too, I just wish it were under better circumstances.” I smiled slightly as the other three stepped up and each shook my hand.
“Now, as much as I would like to sit and chat about other things, we have a problem we need to deal with. Ember, will you please take a seat and tell us everything that happened.”
I looked at Bishop, who pulled out a chair for me then sat next to me. He placed his hand on my knee while I took a deep breath and started to speak. “My wolf and I have been feeling really cooped up lately so I decided to let her out for a run yesterday afternoon. Bishop wasn’t happy about me going alone but I needed some time away from all the chaos. I decided to go to a little secluded area on the south end of the property and just relax but when I got there, this scrawny wolf appeared out of nowhere and...”
My chest began to hurt as the memory of what Aubrey did came flooding back into my mind. I knew she was just trying to protect us but her hostility is what truly concerned me and not being able to control her when she was at her worst was the most troubling part. I took a deep breath and proceeded on with my story.
“Then my wolf sensed him before I did and...I don’t know, it’s like a switch went off and she instantly went into survival mode and locked me in my own mind. Before I knew it, we were on top the mountain tearing him to pieces. She wouldn’t stop until Bishop showed up and commanded her to. Then she tucked her tail between her legs and shifted and hasn’t really talked to me since.”
The concerned look on all their faces told me everything I already knew. They were missing a key piece of information due to my black out. And even though I knew the truth, I wasn’t ready to say anything yet. I just needed time to make sure it was him and figure out a way to keep my fathers pack safe while I negotiated with him.
“The prowler being dead is unfortunate. However, after the search last night, we have some developing information into who might be behind all of this.” Elliot said as he folded his hands in front of him and leaned forward on the desk.
Bishop stood up fiercely, nearly knocking me out of my chair and said, “You have someone in mind and you didn’t tell me before this meeting?”
“Alpha, with all due respect, we just found out ourselves before we walked in. We were just hoping the Luna could confirm our suspicions but her wolf had other plans.” He said with a smile as he looked at me.
Even though he thought he was complimenting me, I couldn’t help the guilt bubbling inside as I remembered the look in the prowlers terrified eyes. No one was responsible for that massacre except for me and my stupidity and for that I could never forgive myself.
He must have noticed the torment in my eyes because his smile faded and he said, “Don’t be so hard on yourself, Luna. He was threatening you and your future pack, you had every right to kill him. We may be part human, dear but we are still half animal and we defend what is ours. No matter what! And based on that, I believe you will make an amazing Luna.”
Bishop stood proud of his statement as I started to feel a little better about what happened, though I still wasn’t proud of her fit, I know why she did it. I just don’t like how hastily she did it.
“Now, let’s talk about our findings. At 1905 last night, an unknown wolf was sited on the far end of the West property just in between our pack and The Blue Crescent’s pack. They notified their guards but by the time anyone could get to him he was gone. Ember, do you think you could describe what he looked like before the attack?”
“I can try,” I said then closed my eyes, concentrating on the scene from earlier. “His fur was tan or brown, I couldn’t tell because of the dirt he had stuck to him but he had a scar above his left eye kind of like a lightning bolt.”
With the last two words of my statement, Sir Elliot nodded his head and replied, “That is the exact description the guard gave. Now we are certain he is from Montgomery.”
Bishop’s expression darkened and I began to wonder why this new information was so crucial. The tension in the room was so thick, I found it hard to breathe as I watched the veins in Bishop’s neck bulging. He was trying hard to hold back what he was feeling but he wasn’t doing a very good job and soon my wolf was beginning to stir.
“He hasn’t been seen in decades, how can you be certain it’s him?” He said, seething with pure unadulterated anger.
“He may not have been causing any problems in a long time but this is his signature style.”
Looking between my mate and the others I asked, “Who is Montgomery and what does he have to do with all of this?”
“He was once Alpha of The Red Lake pack. He managed to create one of the most brutal pack of wolves anyone had ever seen by befriending prowlers or dismissed pack members and using them to attack other packs." Sir Elliot said.
"That is until he vanished 10 years ago without a trace. Some say he was killed by one of his own members or that he went mad due to punishment from the moon goddess for being so evil. Either way, no one has seen or heard of him." Councilman Jake added.
"So this Montgomery guy or his ghost is terrorizing our packs?" I asked as I started getting more angry by second thanks to Bishop's emotions.
"This is ludicrous, there is no way it is him and if it was why is he back now?" Bishop growled through clenched teeth.
"I don't know but I have a feeling this won't be the last visitor we will have, except next time we will be ready for them." Sir Elliot proclaimed as he slammed his fist down on the table.
So now that she met the elders and gave them her twisted version of the truth do you think they will be happy with it? Or will someone smell a rat and pry the real info out of her?
The elders seem to think someone else is behind the attacks and Em just lets them think it all while she will try and reason with Anderson, yeah that sounds like it will work!
Someone slap this girl and make her tell the truth!!!! I see only disaster from now on. Stay tuned for next weeks updates, you'll get an interesting POV from someone other than Em or Bishop that might shine some light on the attacks.
