The Big Bad Wolf Mate

Chapter A Cry For Help

Staring out the window, I jumped when he wrapped his arms around me. I had been lost in my thoughts and never heard him come into the room.

"I'm sorry, did I scare you?" He whispered softly into my ear.

"No, I was just a little distracted. Every time I look at this view, I become mesmerized at it's beauty. My old pack wasn't nearly as breathtaking as this one." I said trying to make him believe I wasn't scared shitless of the obscured darkness that jeopardized our pack.

"Red, you still suck at lying." He chuckled against my neck his grip around me tightened.

"I'm sorry. What did Winston say?"

"He and my mother are on their way now. He thinks he knows who's behind this and he wants to see for himself what they did to the other pack. Apparently, the previous attacks all had one thing in common and if he can investigate it, along with a few of his fellow detectives then they can get enough information to give to the King."

"Don't you think this is a little trivial to be involving the King? I mean he should be notified but we can handle this without bothering him."

Our new King and his mate had just welcomed their first child into the world six months ago and even though his duties to his people never stopped for anything, even children, I felt horrible burdening him with this minor, insignificant problem. One we could handle on our own, if we ever figured out who it was.

"I said the same thing but Winston assured me this was something he needed to know about, even if he doesn't do anything about it himself."

Releasing the breath I didn't realize I was holding, I blew it out slowly as Bishop removed his hands and walked towards the bathroom.

"I'm going take a shower."

Knowing he needed some time to process everything that had happened in the last few weeks, I left the room and went to the kitchen where Naomi was finishing the dishes. I pulled the door to the fridge open and removed one of the containers of food from supper and placed it into the microwave.

She turned around while wiping her hands and said, "Take that out of the microwave this instant and let me make you something."

Giving her a small smile then rolling my eyes, I said "No, Naomi. I am fine with eating leftovers. Now go home and take the day off tomorrow." She opened her mouth, no doubt to refuse but I put my hand up stopping her from speaking and said, "I want to make breakfast for my pack and you have been working round the clock for us while we have been searching, you deserve a break."

"Thank you, Luna." Bowing her head she ran out the door before I could correct her.

She was never going to call me Ember again, neither would any of the people that I had made friends with since I got here but I was starting to get used to it. The beep from the microwave alerted me that my food was done so I removed it and grabbed a fork before going outside to sit on the deck and enjoy my pasta.

After I finished, I remained sitting there, staring out into the woods when I heard a voice coming from the other side of the yard.

"My child, why are you out here without a coat. You're going to catch a cold."

Grannie Lily appeared next to me with a blanket in her hand and a warm smile on her face. I turned to her just as she took a seat next to me and draped the blanket over us both.

"That's just a myth, Grannie and besides I wasn't cold."

"Nonsense." She said as she tapped my knee then pulled her hand away quickly. Being curious at her reaction I grabbed her hand and went to speak but she cut me off. "Darling, are you feeling ok?"

"I feel fine, why do you ask?" I cocked my head to the side and looked at her.

"You feel a little warm. Are you sure you haven't been feeling different? Sick maybe?"

"I'm exhausted. We've been searching for days for a scent we can't pick up that belongs to evil prowlers that we can't find any trace of but other than that I've been fine." I said as I shrugged my shoulders.

Grabbing my hands in hers and staring deep into my eyes, she gasped then shook her head swiftly then looked off towards the border. "That must be it." Standing up, she looked back at me and said. "You should get some sleep my child. I have a feeling things are going to get a lot crazier around here very quickly."

Without another word, she shuffled off towards her house, leaving me bewildered at her comment. What does she mean, things are going to get a lot crazier? Does she know something we don't know? Can she sense a possible attack about to happen?

Knowing I should take her advice seriously, I made a mental note to talk to her more tomorrow and listened to what she said by making my way back into the house. After I made sure every door and window were locked and secured, I went upstairs to our bedroom.

Before I opened the door, I could hear Bishop's soft snores from the hallway. Relief washed over my soul at the fact that he was finally resting after the long day we had. I slowly turned the knob, careful not to disturb his slumber then retreated to the bathroom for a soothing soak in the tub.

Once I was done, I grabbed one of his t-shirts and threw it over my head as I walked to the bed. I slipped in next to him and turned on my side. I closed my eyes and smiled when he reached over and pulled me into his chest and buried his nose into the crook of my neck. He inhaled deeply then went back to sleep as I stared out the window hoping that Winston would be able to identify the heathens responsible for our panic.

The next morning, I woke up and snuck downstairs before anyone was awake and started making breakfast. I had just finished rolling out the dough for fresh baked cinnamon rolls when I heard the back door open.

Turning to see who it was, I laughed as Naomi peeked in and blushed when she knew she had been caught. "I'm sorry, Luna but I couldn't let you cook breakfast for all these people by yourself."

Letting out a chuckle, I said "Thank goddess because I was beginning to get cramps from this rolling pin."

We finished placing the rolls onto the baking sheet then put them into the oven to cook while we scrambled eggs and fried bacon on the stove. The smell from the oven began awakening the members and before we knew it there were two dozen starving men and women lining up in the kitchen to find out what the enticing scent was.

They all ran back into the dining room as Bishop came down the stairs following his nose to the kitchen. "Good morning everyone." He said as he strolled up to me and kissed my temple. "What is that heavenly smell?"

"Cinnamon rolls, eggs and bacon. There's fresh coffee too but can you wait until everything is done so we can eat together."

He laughed as he grabbed a mug and said, "I'll wait for the food but I won't wait for the coffee." Pouring himself a cup, he placed a cube of sugar inside then walked off to the dining room.

After the last pan came out the oven, Naomi and I put everything on the table and sat down. As everyone began eating, I felt immense pride as I sat with the men and women of my pack that swore to protect us with their lives and I couldn't help but share their loyalty because what I told Bishop was true, I would fight for them, I would fight for anyone who needed me to and I would gladly give my life to make sure they always remained safe.

Will Winston be able to find the wolves responsible for the upheaval that has been caused in Tennessee or will he be left empty handed like they have been. And will the King enlist his services or let them fend for themselves?

Naomi is truly a great person and I hope she finds her mate soon because she has shown so much growth since Em got there and it would be a shame for her not to have a special someone.

Em really does love her members, even though she isn't officially their Luna, she takes her roll personally and that makes it just as real. I just hope they find out who is behind all of this and get rid of them.
