Chapter 14
Chapter-14
Amara
All of them
We’ve all been on edge all day. We are all waiting for Hades to come and claim his end of the deal. We estimated him to come around seven in the evening because Cyrus was born at that time but every sound still startles all of us.
After opening the gifts, we all just chatted and ate. Then we danced and partied a little. Celina and Cyrus are both trying to avoid the tension and enjoy as much as possible. Not that I blame them, it’s their last day together. It’s their last day with us.
We started talking again and I looked at the time. It’s 6.55 already?
“Oh my god, it’s almost 7 p.m. already! Don’t you guys have to prepare dinner or something? I’ll come to join you all so that you don’t destroy the kitchen like the morning.” I said.
We had all decided that it’s best that we keep the children away from us when Hades comes.
“Yes, we do. Let’s go, guys!” Cyra said.
“Umm, Cyra, thank you for today. It was truly amazing. We love you so much and we are so proud of you.” Celina said and she and Cyrus hugged Cyra while holding back their tears.
“I love you too Mom and Dad, but why are you guys crying? It’s not like I’m going somewhere.” She said as she hugged them back confused. Poor Cyra, she doesn’t even know.
They let her go and then she turned to me.
“Aunty Amara, you coming?”
“Yes, you guys go ahead. I’ll be right there.” I said. She nodded and they all left the room.
I turned to Celina and Cyrus and hugged them tightly.
“I’m going to miss you so much. You are the best brother and sister-in-law I could’ve asked for. I love you.” I told them tearing up. We stayed like that for a few seconds and then we broke apart.
“I’ll keep them all there and make sure they don’t have to face him. Text me when it’s done.” I told them and left the room.
I wiped my tears and took a few deep breaths before entering the kitchen.
“Hey, Aunty Amara can you….are you okay?” Violet asked.
I quickly pasted a smile and said, “Yes of course, is there something wrong?”
“Your eyes are all watery. Were you crying?” Cyra asked.
“Mommy, are you okay?” my twins asked.
“Yes guys, I’m fine. Something just went in my eye, that’s all.”
They looked at each other unconvinced.
“If you say so…” Violet whispered.
I saw them mind-linking each other for a few moments but then thankfully started working again.
“So, did you need my help with something?” I asked them.
“Yes...um… can you get the cake out of the oven?” Cyra said.
I nodded and did as I was told. I let them take up the lead making sure they didn’t go outside or destroy the kitchen.
We cooked for a long time and I kept checking my phone throughout. I didn’t want them to leave the kitchen before Hades went away, but I didn’t know how long I could stall them. What’s taking them so long? It’s been hours and I haven’t received a single text. I just hope everyone’s alright.
------------------------------------------------
It is 9 o’clock now, the dinner is completely ready, and the table is set as well. I even made them decorate the dining hall just we had more time. I still haven’t received any message and I don’t think I can stall them any longer.
“Should we call everyone?” Aiden asked.
“We are done, so yes, you two can go and call everyone here,” Cyra said to Alex and Aiden.
“NO!” I immediately shouted. They CAN’T go in there.
“I mean…umm…I’ll go and call them. You all should just wait here, and surprise them when they enter. You don’t want to miss their expression when they see your incredible decoration.” I covered up, terribly if I say so myself.
They looked suspicious but let it go and nodded.
I smiled at them before going out of the kitchen and towards the hall where everyone was supposed to be. I took a deep breath and entered and all eyes turned towards me. They all let out a breath of relief when they saw me.
I saw all of them there……all of them.
