Chapter 676 What Happened
There were so many questions running on Doris' head right now.
"Yes, it's a girl. We used to be friends a long time ago, but we have nothing to do with each other anymore. Please understand, Doris." Since it was hard to explain over the phone, Jay couldn't tell her everything.
"I don't care!" Doris asked impatiently.
At this time, she was more eager to know how Jay was related to Eva than to save him. What on earth had happened between the two in the past?
If they were just ordinary friends, there was no reason for Eva's mother not to let Jay see her.
There was probably a deeper reason behind it. Otherwise, Jay wouldn't have been kept in the police station.
"Go to Pam and convince her that I've changed for the better. I'm more responsible now, and I love you and Ace very much. Oh, by the way, buy some gifts and talk nicely to Pam. I can't get out of here unless she forgives me." If Charles had failed to help Jay, his only hope now was Doris. Therefore, she had to do everything in her power to change Pam's mind.
"Jay, you are really something, you..." Out of frustration, Doris was lost for words.
So she just ended the call and put her phone into her backpack. Then she sat on the sofa, sulking and thinking about what Jay had told her.
However, she knew that it was impossible for her to stand by and do nothing to save Jay. After all, it was her duty as his wife to help him during times like this.
So in the end, she went to buy some nice gift for Pam as Jay instructed, and then she drove to Su's residence.
Not all people knew Doris, because she and Jay didn't hold a grand wedding before.
So it was understandable that Pam didn't recognize her when she appeared at her doorstep. "Who are you looking for?"
Even so, Doris still smiled at her politely. "Mrs. Su, I'm Doris. Nice to meet you. May I come in and have a talk with you?"
It was not like Pam was a mean woman, so she allowed Doris to enter the house. "Thank you."
As soon as Doris sat down on the sofa, her eyes wandered around the living room. Pam sat opposite to her, and looked at Doris indifferently.
Unlike when Charles visited, she didn't order the servant to serve some tea. This time, she just waited for Doris to tell the reason why she came here.
"Oh, you might not know me, but I'm Jay's wife, Mrs. Su.
"Really? Jay has a lot of women around him. He's with different women every day, so I'm surprised that he has kept you by his side." The moment Pam heard that Doris was Jay's wife, she suddenly became unfriendly.
If it was in the past, Doris would've made a scene and left angrily.
But she couldn't do it today because she had something to ask for.
Left without a choice, Doris endured it and smiled brightly. "That's right. Everyone in the country knows that Jay is a playboy, but he is really kind to me, especially to our child. He was still too young back then, but now that he's married, I can say that he's more mature and more responsible now. I hope you can forgive him for what he had done in the past."
Hearing this, Pam raised her eyebrows and sneered. "Oh, Did he tell you everything that happened in the past?"
"I don't know the whole story. I just know a little. I heard from Jay that he liked Eva very much." Of course, Jay didn't really say these words. Doris just knew that he wouldn't have climbed the wall if he didn't like Eva.
Besides, how could a playboy like him be guilty if he had no feelings for Eva?
Gritting her teeth, Pam replied, "Like? If it weren't for his like, Eva wouldn't have had a car accident! It was because he liked her that our Eva will be paralyzed in bed all her life. We don't need it!" "Mrs. Su, let bygones be bygones. Why are you still holding onto it?" These words had driven Pam up the wall.
"Let it go? Mrs. Fang, are you kidding me? It's Jay who came to us. When did I come to him? Years had already passed and I almost forgot those things. But he suddenly appeared in front of my house and reminded me of those sad memories. How can you talk like that as if it was me who had done something wrong? Let me tell you. Jay is the only one who's at fault here!" Perhaps it was because Pam was so angry that the corners of her mouth twitched.
Looking at the burning rage in Pam's eyes, Doris nodded and let out a heavy sigh.
"But Mrs. Su, Jay didn't want this to happen. No one wants a tragedy. The thing is, it already happened. So we have no choice but to accept it." "Mrs. Fang, I know why you came here. You just want me to let go of Jay."
No matter how straightforward Pam was, Doris didn't even flinch.
"Yes!" If it wasn't for Jay's sake, she wouldn't have come here to listen to this woman's sarcasm. But she had to help him so she had no choice but be tolerant.
"Come with me. I'll let you see my daughter."
When Pam stood up, Doris followed her in a hurry.
At this time, Eva was already awake and the servant had just cleaned her body.
As soon as they entered the room, Pam ordered, "You can go out now."
"Yes Mrs. Su." The servant bowed her head and picked up the basin but Pam stopped her.
"Leave it." "Yes, Ma'am."
In a hurry, the servant put down the basin and went out. Now, there were only three people left in the room.
The first thing that Doris noticed was the basin filled with thick white dirt.
"Mrs. Fang, take a good look. Do you know what this dirt is?" With her eyes still fixed on the basin, Doris didn't say a word.
"You don't?
Don't you know that? Well, let me tell you, that is the skin of my daughter. She has been lying on the bed for so many years, so in order not to let her have bed sores, I have to turn her over more than one hundred times every day. Winter is fine. But do you know what she looks like during summer? She sweats all over right after I finished cleaning her body. I have to quickly clean her body because she's in a coma. I can't turn on the air conditioner, nor can I turn on the fan. I don't even know how I got through it. Do you know how much I suffered, Mrs. Fang?" Since they were inside Eva's room, Pam tried her best to speak with forbearance.
Every word she said pierced through Doris' heart like sharp knives. The more she thought about it, the more her heart ached.
As a mother, she totally understood what Pam meant.
It was true that a mother could do anything for her child, no matter how difficult it might be.
They could even sacrifice their own lives without a second thought, if it was for the sake of their children. "Mrs. Su, I'm a mother now. I can definitely understand the pain and anxiety you feel."
Pam flashed a sad smile. "You understand me? But, Mrs. Fang, you are not me. No matter how you understand me, you wouldn't have to suffer the pain like I did because your child is fine. Look how lucky you are. Even so, you still have to take good care of your child, and don't let him fall in love at a young age. After all, early love only causes pain."
Every time Pam thought of those painful memories, it felt as though she was being crushed by the waves. "Thank you for reminding me, Mrs. Su."
No matter what Pam said, Doris could only listen to her.
All of a sudden, Eva asked in a low voice, "Who is she?"
Neither of the two spoke. Doris just stared at her, with her heart trembling in her chest.
This girl was very beautiful, like a flower free from the mortal world. However, such a quiet girl had been lying in bed for so many years.
"I am..." When Doris was about to introduce herself, she was interrupted by Pam. "Eva, she is one of my clients. She came here to see you today."
