Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo

Chapter 949

"I don't have much to do with it. It was just a coincidence that I met a friend at Thompson Medical. Turns out that she was Mr. Ackley's niece. She helped us secure the deal." Larissa didn't dare to take credit for herself.

Lewis shut down his computer and muttered, "Such coincidences don't just happen to anyone."

Larissa agreed, "That's true."

Gary sensed the underlying meaning behind Lewis' words. "Are you saying that all of this wasn't just a coincidence?"

Lewis didn't confirm nor deny it. He said vaguely, "Maybe there is another person helping us behind the scenes."

Gary glanced at Larissa, who looked puzzled. He kept his thoughts to himself.

"Alright, you both should go and rest now. Come home tomorrow night. The three of us will have a nice meal to celebrate." Gary stood up and waved them off. Larissa was not in a rush to go home.

She had brought souvenirs from Bartham. She distributed them to her colleagues in the presidential office.

Although they were not familiar with Larissa, they accepted her gifts with gratitude.

Marilyn asked Larissa, "Larissa, is Bartham fun?"

"It's not bad." Larissa brought her some snacks from Bartham, as well as the coffee powder Marilyn had been craving for a long time.

"Coffee made from powder is nowhere near as good as coffee brewed in the coffee shop. When we have the chance, I'll take you to Bartham for a real taste of their coffee!"

"Sure!" Marilyn held the snacks in her hand. She was eager to make a cup of coffee and taste it right away.

"Since you even had the mood to buy us gifts, it seems like your trip to Bartham must have been successful!" she teased Larissa, poking her with her elbow.

"This has nothing to do with that, right?" Larissa hesitated to tell the truth.

The collaboration between Blue Star Shipping and Thompson Medical was not announced officially.

Besides, there was a mole in the company.

For now, she had to follow Gary's and Lewis' lead to keep this a secret.

"I had already planned to buy these gifts for you all anyway!" No one knew that it was Kevan's assistant who had actually purchased the gifts.

At that moment, Lewis came out of his office and heard their conversation. "So, you spent the past two days not at the hotel but buying these souvenirs?"

Larissa was puzzled by Lewis' question. She thought that he knew where she had been.

From his expressionless face, Larissa couldn't tell whether he was joking or serious. She remained silent and did not respond.

"I've never seen you being so proactive about work. We have been rejected by Thompson Medical. You did not spend time thinking about ways to resolve the situation, but you went all the way to the city cente to buy souvenirs?" Lewis gave Larissa a disapproving glance.

He picked up some snacks from Marilyn's table and looked at it with a dark expression on his face. Throwing it back on the table, he sneered and walked away.

An awkward tension hung in the air.

"It seems like Mr. Logan Junior is angry," Marilyn commented cautiously.

Larissa stared at his retreating figure for a long time before finally understanding what Lewis wanted to do.

Larissa lowered her head and said in frustration, "It's all my fault. I am so useless. I followed Mr. Logan Junior on a business trip, but instead of helping, I only became a nuisance. It's only natural for him to be angry with me."

"Larissa, don't say that. You have only joined the company recently. Mr. Logan Junior's expectations were too high.

"You are just an assistant. There's nothing much you could do to influence the collaboration between two big companies." Marilyn held Larissa's hand and comforted her gently.

Larissa sighed deeply and said goodbye to Marilyn, "I'm going home now. See you tomorrow." S~ᴇaʀᴄh the (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Marilyn walked her to the elevator and reminded her, "Don't overthink things. Mr. Logan Junior's anger will probably subside tomorrow."
