Singularity

Chapter 50

Ciara was jolted awake. Her left hand stung. She opened her eyes and looked at it curiously aware that it held a thin line of dried blood. Derek hovered over her. She couldn’t tell if he was worried or angry.

“I’ve been trying to wake you for hours.” He growled as he sat down beside her.

“I’m sorry. It must be the pills.” She replied. “I’m not taking them anymore.”

“I’m starting to agree with you on that. You had me worried.” He kissed her softly.

“What’s wrong with your hand?” He asked looking it over.

Her mind flashed through the memory. She smiled as she shrugged. “I must have dug my nails into it while I was sleeping. It’s fine though.”

“If you insist,” He smiled. “It just feels a bit strange today.”

“I’m fine Derek.” She nearly growled and crawled out of bed.

“Alright,” He chuckled.

“I’m going to take a bath love. I feel filthy.” She smiled.

“That sounds good. I’ll go finish up the morning rounds and then I’ll take you into town for a nice breakfast.” He said soothingly.

“Ok, I’ll meet you downstairs in a bit.” She said and disappeared into the bathroom.

Ciara closed the door behind her and started the bath water. She lit a few candles and a stick of incense then shed her clothes. The hot water felt good on her skin as she sank down in it, instantly relaxed. She closed her eyes and let her mind wander. She thought of Michalei and then it began to happen.

The memories flowed through her mind as if she were watching a movie. As the last images passed she opened her eyes. She knew the truth again and that it had been taken from her. She felt her power return to her as her anger became replaced with rage. She crawled out of the tub and wrapped up in a towel. As she went to the closet Derek burst through the door. She pulled a dress over her head and then turned around to him before speaking.

“You said once that if you couldn’t have me then no one would. I died in his arms that day.” She growled.

“Kira,” He hissed.

“What I don’t understand is that I forgave you. You had me. So why would you dare erase who I am?” She shouted.

“Shit, I suppose there’s no excuse I could satisfy you with.” He smiled.

She raised her hand to him, “Speak the truth for once in your life Domascus.”

He could feel her grasp as the energy wrapped around his neck. “Your power became mine.” He choked out.

“I wanted it all for myself.” He shook where he stood unable to move. “Once a snake, always a snake darling. It didn’t matter how you made me feel or how many people had to suffer in the wake of it all. In the end, power is all I will ever love.”

“You are still the great betrayer aren’t you?” She smiled.

“Always,” He smiled in return. “I have what I want now whether you remember it or not. You may have broken our bond but that child within you has sealed our power together. You’re stuck with me.”

“Like hell I am.” She waved her hand at him flinging him into the wall.

Domascus was stunned by the amount of control she had over her powers here. Before he had a chance to respond Kira’s body slumped to the floor. He let out a string of curses as he lifted her into his arms. He threw her in the car and rushed her to the doctors knowing he could not drag her back without their aid. He could only fathom the hell she was preparing to put him through. He put the pedal to the floor board and raced onward to town.
