Chapter 32
Sephiroth was a bit late for breakfast. Kira and Domascus had started to eat without him. With respect, Domascus put down his fork and stood with his head bowed as Sephiroth took his seat.
“Sir, good morning.” Domascus said.
“Good morning son take a seat your formality is unnecessary.” Sephiroth chuckled.
“Morning papa.” Kira smiled. “I hate to have to ask you but we need to figure out what Michalei is up to and how we’re going to stop him.”
“I know Kira. He is a shattered man convinced that he has to save you.” Sephiroth replied.
“He told me that he was from a village in Credos that was destroyed. I’m certain it was the first one we healed together. I had hoped that he would take that as a sign of the changing times.” She said.
“I remember that place, when I burned it to the ground. It was right before we went to Earth.” Domascus sighed. “Goddess, I really screwed things up.”
“Hush,” Kira scolded. “Papa, can you organize some sort of search party? We have to figure out where he would go and what his next plan is. Avalon can’t stay on lockdown forever.” She said.
“Of course I can daughter. I’ll get right on that this afternoon.” Sephiroth replied.
“Thank you.” She smiled. “Darling, are you about ready for some sparing?”
“Yes, I sure could use some exorcise, all this pampering makes a man lazy.” He chuckled.
“Will we see you for supper papa?” She asked.
“Count on it.” He replied. “You two go have some fun.” He smiled.
“Alright,” She stood and kissed his cheek.” See you soon papa.”
“Take care sir,” Domascus said as he bowed to him again out of habit.
Kira laughed at the look that passed between them. Domascus smiled, took her hand, and walked her to the hallway. He wrapped his arms around her and let the darkness take them where he wanted to go. They reappeared in the clearing, where he had first began to love her and found it to be all but dead. He looked sad until she explained.
“I died here. This place gave its life to me so I could live again. If you wish, now that we are together, we can return the life to it.” She said.
“The way you taught me before in Credos right?” He asked.
“No, I got something better.” She smiled. “Remember our first kiss?”
“Hard to forget.” He blushed.
Kira drew her weapons and smiled. Domascus drew his katana beginning to understand where she was going with it. She stood ready to strike with her right hand and ready to defend with her left arm.
“You took to those just like I knew you would.” He smiled and waited for her to attack.
Kira gave Domascus what he wanted. She whipped the sword around a few times and went to backhand him with her right blade. He bent over backward, brought up his sword, and swatted hers away. Then as he stood upright he threw the wind at her. It howled past her shield defense that automatically popped up around her.
“Cheater,” He smiled.
“Fine, no magic then.” She laughed and lashed out at his chest.
Domascus turned sideways, caught Kira’s arm, and pulled her off balance. She tumbled, took him down with her and sent him flying with a well placed kick and roll. By the time he recovered she was on top of him with her blades crossed at his throat. He chuckled knowing that she thought she had him beat.
It caught Kira by surprise when Domascus dropped his sword and hit her in the chest with both hands. It knocked the wind out of her as she fell back. Her blade nicked his neck and his forearms as he used his strength to knock them from her hands. They were both winded, wounded, and bleeding with smiles on their faces.
Domascus took his time stripping her of her leather. Kira kissed the blood away from his neck and in return he kissed it away from her lips. As they finally gave into the desire that had haunted them for months the forest came back to life around them. They made love to the sound of the river in the clearing where they had shared everything together. The grass grew beneath their sweat soaked bodies and the trees above them sprouted new leaves blocking out the bright afternoon sky.
The magic poured through them and the passion multiplied until they could stand it no more. Domascus shivered trying to hold on for a moment longer. But as Kira’s body heaved beneath him in ecstasy he too gave in and melted into her.
For a moment they stared into each others’ eyes. Tears formed in Kira’s as she trembled next to him on the soft glass. Domascus looked around astonished by the life their love had revived.
“It’s beautiful.” She whispered.
“You are beautiful.” He said brushing her hair from her face.
She ran her fingers through his tangled brown hair and smiled softly. “It feels as if I’ve been drugged. I couldn’t move from your arms right now even if a stampede was headed this way.”
“I’m not ready to move either.” He chuckled. “Let them run us over.”
Kira smiled and lay down on top of Domascus kissing his chest. It sent shivers down his spine. His body responded with longing and he gently took her again. They dispensed with words as their bodies joined with their already united souls for a blissful afternoon in each others’ embrace.
By the time Kira and Domascus made it back to the castle they were already late for supper. They quickly washed off the blood and grass stains and then dressed in clothes more appropriate for a king and queen to wear. She put on a simple blue gown and he cringed as he pulled on a matching colored shirt and put his leathers away for the first time in years. They then rushed off to the dining room and were relieved to find that Sephiroth was also running a bit late.
“I hope you two had a nice afternoon out and about.” Sephiroth smiled and took his seat.
Domascus held out Kira’s chair for her and said, “We managed.”
Kira sat quickly changing the subject, “Did you get any good news today papa?”
“I’m sorry, we had the academy searched but he never returned there. I have people still cautiously looking. They’ll find him.” Sephiroth replied quietly.
“That’s alright, I’m sure you will turn up something soon.” Kira replied.
“They won’t rest until he is found. They know how dangerous magic can become if left unchecked.” He glanced at Domascus in reference.
“I wouldn’t worry too much about it love. How bad could he get there aren’t many places he can go to learn things he didn’t already pick up when he was here.” Domascus stated.
“True,” Kira smiled.
The servants brought their meals. They enjoyed the moment of silence eating gave them. An uneasy feeling had begun to seep into Domascus’ skin. He didn’t like not knowing. He would put his life on the line to protect Kira. That was certain in his heart. When she was done eating they excused themselves to retire to the bedroom for the evening, thankful to be alone.
