Chapter Saying Goodbye To My Troubles 9
Nydia hadn't noticed before. But now, under the lights, she could see red bumps all over Eddie's face.
His eyes were bloodshot, almost like a beast on the brink of madness. She was startled and her face went pale.
second thought.
Before she could speak, the family doctor, Mason Byrd, came out of the next room and quickly gave Eddie the medication he had prepared. Eddie, who was sick, looked somewhat fragile. He was nothing like the ruthless killer he usually was, one who could kill without a "What's wrong with him?" Nydia asked, even though she knew this man was dangerous.
Mason checked Eddie's temperature and sighed in relief, clearly relieved that he was not in any immediate danger.
"He drank milk and had an allergic reaction," Mason explained. He finally answered Nydia's question.
Nydia stepped closer, and when she heard this, her expression turned strange. "If I remember correctly, I was the one who offered him milk earlier," she muttered, feeling a little guilty.
She quickly took a couple of steps forward. "Mr. Houle, I..."
"Don't come any closer." Eddie winced as he spoke through the pain.
But Nydia didn't seem to understand, and she lowered her head to check on his condition. His gaze quickly swept over the wide neckline of her nightshirt.
In an instant, her chest caught his attention, and he quickly turned his face away.
Nydia frowned, noticing his condition. The dim lighting made her smooth skin look even more delicate. Though she was dressed in a simple nightshirt and had no makeup on, her beauty was undeniable and impossible to ignore. Only once she confirmed that Eddie was truly recovering did she speak again.
"I didn't know about your milk allergy." She cleared her throat, feeling the awkwardness.
Her explanation seemed weak, especially considering she was currently working under Eddie's authority.
"But!"
She braced herself and added, "You should have told me earlier. I wouldn't have forced you to drink it. So, you're fully responsible."
Nydia's words were lacking in confidence, as she leaned against the cabinet behind her. She

was probably afraid that Eddie might suddenly get up and punch her.
Eddie coughed twice, his discomfort clear. Mason, thinking to himself, couldn't believe anyone dared speak to Eddie like that. It was truly a sight to behold.
But now, he had to remain low-key. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to witness how things played out.
"Mr. Houle, you're not going to make me pay some kind of price, are you?" Her heart raced when she received no response. anxiety gnawed at her, threatening to break her

composure.
She had only meant to be kind by offering him milk. She never expected the notorious Eddie to use it against her.
As she wondered how to lower her expectations and apologize humbly, Eddie coughed a
couple more times.
"Fully responsible? Hah, you have a sharp tongue," he said, his voice sharp.
Yet, it was hard to tell if he was truly angry.
Nydia realized he was difficult to read, but she instinctively lowered her gaze. She felt a bit scared of him, so she purposely avoided looking at his face.
Instead, she noticed that his shirt was unbuttoned, revealing a glimpse of his abs. Every time he coughed, his abs tightened.
"It looks like they would feel great to touch," she thought to herself.
Quickly, she forced her attention away and tried to look at Eddie with more confidence. "Mr. Houle, if you have something on your mind, you can talk about it. We can figure something. out together. But you shouldn't drag me down because you're feeling frustrated. "If things keep going like this, I won't die from your mess, but you just might."
She glared at him, puffing out her cheeks in annoyance. She looked like a small pufferfish.
"Norman is a good kid, but he's always around you. If something happens to you, he could be in danger too.
"You're crossing the line, Nydia!" Eddie's icy gaze shot through her. His voice dropped to at dangerous warning.
Though Nydia felt a pang of fear, she refused to back down. She had already said what she needed to. "You're angry because I've hit a nerve, haven't I? I said what you're afraid of."
She knew she was already pushing the limits of danger. So, she quickly revealed her trump
card.

adjust your health."
Before she could even think of how to explain further, Eddie suddenly reached out and grabbed her slender wrist. His dark eyes were filled with coldness.
"What do you want from me?"
She had previously been offered one condition, which she didn't take. Now, it seemed she was after something bigger. But...
Nydia was growing more and more disgusted with his attitude. Every time she tried to do something, she was met with such suspicion. She was just a doctor trying to save her own life. "Forget it. If you think an exchange of benefits is more credible, then I'll ask for something."
Eddie narrowed his eyes, a hint of disappointment flashing in them. He didn't even know why he felt this way about someone relatively unfamiliar to him.
After all, he had always been indifferent to people who weren't important to him.
"Say it," he said coldly, his gaze shifting away from Nydia as if he was already thinking about what kind of punishment to give her.
Nydia sat down, no longer afraid, and decided to throw caution to the wind.
"I want trust and equality. When we first came together, it was because of Norman.
"But I stayed because I care about Norman and want to help him. So, I'm not submitting to you, nor am I your subordinate."
Her voice started trembling, but gradually, it grew more firm. "We're partners in this, equal and respectful. That's basic.
"As for trust... If you want me to help you with your health, you need to truly trust me. Otherwise, there's no point in us working together and hurting each other."
Eddie was clearly surprised by her words. It became obvious just how unfairly she had been treated before and how much she longed for equality.
However, as he looked at this woman, he wasn't angry at her boldness. Instead, a complicated feeling stirred inside him.
"You know what kind of position you need to be in to talk to me about equality and trust?"
Nydia didn't respond. At the Wilcher residence she had learned a simple lesson. Asking too many questions without knowing the full truth only led to irritation. So, she waited for Eddie to continue. But after a long pause, Eddie's mood suddenly soured. He waved his hand dismissively.
He ordered, "Leave."
Nydia was a bit speechless. She was still waiting for an answer, but Eddie hadn't learned the concept of respect. She had no intention of sticking around for more.
Observing her retreating figure, Mason couldn't help but feel conflicted. He had to admit, this woman had quite the ambition.
The only people who could truly talk to Eddie about trust and equality were his closest friends or... his wife.
