Chapter My Troubles 19

Youth was truly a blessing. Norman fell asleep the moment he rested in her arms.

Nydia awkwardly glanced at Eddie, who was sitting across from her. "Could you please have someone carry Norman to the bedroom, Mr. Houle? I need to leave now."

She wasn't very familiar with Eddie, and considering how she had repeatedly provoked him. before, it was best for her to leave quickly.

Eddie gave her a long, assessing look. "Norman has always been strong-willed. Since you promised him this, you should follow through."

Nydia was speechless. "I never promised him anything."

Eddie countered, "You implied it when you didn't refuse."

Nydia hesitated. "Isn't it possible that I just didn't have time to refuse?"

"You can wake him up and discuss it.

""

She looked down at the peacefully sleeping child in her arms and couldn't bring herself to disturb his rest. She finally gave in. "Mr. Houle, do you have a guest room?"

Eddie motioned with a gesture, and a maid entered to help carry Norman. He also arranged a room for Nydia.

Nydia couldn't help but feel amazed.

Eddie really cared for Norman. The room he arranged for her was right next to Norman's.

The bed was incredibly soft, and the moment Nydia lay down, all her fatigue seemed to melt

away.

She took a deep breath. "Everything here just smells of wealth."

Between work, the outing, and the unsettling encounter at the amusement park, she was completely drained. The luxurious bed made it easy to fall asleep quickly-any longer would be disrespectful to such luxury. Downstairs, Eddie remained seated on the couch while his assistant, Wayne Ortega, walked in with several men in tow.

The men were all pinned to the ground. Their mouths were gagged with towels, their hands. and feet shackled with chains and their bodies bore various wounds. Blood had long since soaked through their clothes. Their faces were pale with fear as they begged for mercy.

Wayne kicked one of them. His name was Fred Larson. "You're useless! Starbook Residence doesn't need you anymore!"

Seeing Fred about to speak, Wayne ripped the towel from his mouth.

"Mr. Houle, we were wrong. Please, spare us. Spare us!" Fred cried, his voice desperate.

Wayne kicked him again. "Tell the truth!"

Fred hurriedly bowed his head. "Mr. Houle, Mr. Houle Senior said life or death doesn't matter, we had no choice. Please, Mr. Houle, give us a chance to live."

Eddie's face was icy, his expression as cold as the dead of winter. The room seemed to freeze. over, heavy with an oppressive silence.

The atmosphere was thick with tension, enough to make anyone shiver. Pinally, he waved his hand.

The men were gagged again and dragged out. Based on the hollow expressions they wore, their fate was all too clear. After they were removed, several maids entered, swiftly cleaning up the room.

In just a few minutes, everything was back to its pristine state, as though the earlier scene had never happened.

Eddie leaned back on the couch, rubbing his temples. Despite this, his expression remained dark and stormy, as though he were on the brink of losing his temper.

Suddenly, there was a soft rustling sound. His eyes snapped open, the intense glare in his gaze sharp enough to pierce through anyone's soul.

"Uh..." Nydia had been feeling thirsty and decided to go downstairs to get some water.

She hadn't expected to witness the brutal scene of the men being dragged out. Her first instinct was to leave quickly, but fear had weighed down her legs, making them feel like they were filled with lead. After a long moment, she managed to move slightly, but just as she tried to leave, she was caught.

The piercing gaze fixed on her like a hawk spotting its prey. She had nowhere to hide.

Reluctantly, she stepped forward and forced a smile. "I was just going to get a glass of water."

Eddie's aura grew even more oppressive, his irritation radiating outward. Even though she was just a weak woman, showing a strong instinct to survive, he remained completely indifferent. Nydia couldn't help but think that her life might very well be in danger tonight. She thought

to herself, "Why did I even agree to stay? This is practically a death sentence."

Clearing her throat, she spoke with a nervous chuckle. "Mr. Houle, are you unable to sleep?"

In moments of sheer panic, people often said the strangest things. "I have some knowledge about insomnia. Maybe I can help?"

She took small, hesitant steps toward him. Sitting across from him, she tried to be as polite as possible. "We agreed on mutual trust, Mr. Houle. How about giving me a chance?"

The mention of trust seemed to bring them back to that day at Gromore, when she had dared to make demands of him, asking for both trust and equality. He had agreed.

His eyes lowered slightly, the intensity in his presence calming somewhat.

Nydia, emboldened by the moment, let her fingers gently rest on his wrist. Perhaps it was trust and equality they had agreed upon. His fingers twitched slightly, but ultimately, he didn't pull away.

Still, Nydia could sense something was off. She gently pulled her hand away, her brows furrowing in concern. "Do you have trouble sleeping?"

It seemed to be a case of chronic insomnia.

Eddie didn't respond. It was true, but not entirely. There were times when he had to take care of matters in the evening.

In his earlier years, his emotions had been far less stable. After finishing his work, sleep had simply cluded him.

Over time, his body had suffered. Despite having several family doctors, none had been able to help him recover from insomnia.

"First, you need a calming essential oil blend."

Ignoring Eddie's indifferent attitude, she grabbed a pen and quickly wrote down a list of ingredients. "Mr. Houle, would it be possible for someone to fetch these ingredients? I can prepare it in about an hour. I promise you'll sleep soundly through the night." Eddie looked at her confident demeanor and couldn't help but find it amusing. "Not necessary.

For someone like him, a deep sleep wasn't needed. To do so would put him at risk, giving his enemies an opening.

"Just give it a try, Mr. Houle. You can't avoid the problem forever," she said, her expression hopeful. Her eyes were wide, gleaming with the warmth of amber light.

For a moment, the intensity of her gaze softened him.

"Wayne," Eddie called.

Wayne immediately entered at Eddie's command. Nydia handed over the list. "Make it quick."

Seeing Eddie's nod, Wayne didn't ask any questions. Within just a few minutes, he had gathered all the necessary ingredients and delivered them to the villa.

In the kitchen, Nydia prepared the ingredients, extracting their essence and blending them into a calming oil. Using specialized equipment, she mixed them to create a soothing, calming blend of essential oils.

About 40 minutes later, she returned with the oil diffuser. The gentle mist rose from it, and soon the room filled with a pleasant herbal aroma. Underneath, there was a faint sweet note.

For the first time, Eddie felt drowsy. His gaze lingered on the diffuser, his expression softening.

"Mr. Houle, when you sleep, keep this oil diffuser in your room. It will help you sleep and also improve your overall health. As for the medication, I'll need to think it through. But for now, I'm going to my room." Her smile was forced.

No one could stay calm after witnessing bloodied men being dragged away. She needed to regain her composure.

Luckily, Eddie didn't say anything and she quickly retreated to her room.

Back in the living room, Wayne hesitated. "Mr. Houle, these oils haven't been tested yet. You.

Eddie stood up, lifting the diffuser. "I made a promise to her. I won't break it."
