Chapter 130 The Plaintiff and the Defendant
Levi said, "Jane, wearing that jacket is ruining your style."
Just as Levi reached to grab the jacket, Eric swiftly stopped him. "It's freezing outside. Do you want Jae to catch a cold?"
Eric bent down, adjusting the jacket while adding sarcastically, "Some people are really malicious. Jane took in a homeless guy, and he repays her kindness by letting her freeze."
Levi was at a loss for words. He angrily glared at Eric before turning to me, shaking his head furiously. "Jane, that's not true! He's slandering me! This is all a lie!"
Eric remained calm. "Isn't that the truth? You clearly didn't bring a jacket, but you wouldn't let me give Jae mine. If that's not the very definition of cruel, then what is?"
Levi looked at his empty hands and the only shirt he had on, finally falling silent.
I couldn't help but smile. I thought their bickering would annoy me to the point of exhaustion, but Eric had won without breaking a sweat.
Up until the moment we arrived home, there was an oddly peaceful atmosphere between the two of them. The only thing they both seemed to care about was pulling the other away from me.
As soon as I got home, I received a message from Jeremiah. "Today was an accident. I'll make it up to you tomorrow."
I responded with a question mark before typing again. "Jeremiah, maybe you should get your brain checked. It's only been a few hours, and you've already forgotten what I said. From now on, if we're having dinner together, it'll be at a business gathering. Other than that, I have no time for you."
Soon, another message from Jeremiah appeared. "Is this really how you're going to be? I swear, Elsa and I are innocent. What will it take for you to believe me?"
Looking at the words on the screen, I couldn't help but smile bitterly.
Even after everything, he still thought I was just jealous. With someone as clueless as him, the downfall of the Cornell family was inevitable.
I couldn't be bothered to respond to his messages, so I turned off my phone and went to bed early.
The next morning, as I stepped downstairs, I saw Jeremiah standing below, holding a bouquet of red roses. He had made an effort with his appearance.
Although I had already anticipated
that he might continue pestering me,

seeing this in person still hit me harder than expected. Without thinking, I took a step back and accidentally bumped into someone.

I turned around and found Eric's smiling face.
"Good morning." Eric's voice had a certain charm that calmed my restless heart, and I instinctively nodded.
"Where's Levi?" He raised an eyebrow in surprise when he noticed that Levi wasn't with me.
"He stayed up late last night working on some designs, so I let him rest this morning."
Seeing that Levi was nowhere to be found, Eric seemed in a good mood.
Just as he was about to speak, Jeremiah's angry voice rang out, growing louder as he approached. "What do you think you're doing? Stay away from my wife!"
Though his voice was loud, it seemed like Jeremiah didn't dare to confront Eric directly.
When he saw Jeremiah, Eric raised an eyebrow and positioned himself in front of me, blocking me from view.
Jeremiah, visibly frustrated, shouted, "Do you even realize we're still married? Are you really planning to be the other man, Mr. Flint?"
Eric smiled. "No, I think you've misunderstood. You and Jane are in the middle of a divorce proceeding."
He continued to drawl, "Right now, you're nothing more than plaintiff and defendant. If you keep bothering Jane, we won't hesitate to take this to court for a restraining order. At that point, your personal freedom won't be guaranteed."
Upon hearing this, Jeremiah's expression darkened instantly as if a storm cloud had settled over him.
Fortunately, after Eric's words, Jeremiah seemed to lose the courage to follow me. "Jane, you'd better watch out!"
Before we walked away, I heard his desperate warning.
