Chapter 5: The Undercurrents of the Dark Wolf Pack
Melissa's POV
Now, I suddenly realized that Elliott might be the one who understood me the least.
I hadn't cried when Aaron rejected me.
I hadn't cried when Elliott displayed intimacy with his destined partner.

Even today, standing in the hospital and seeing the three of them, I hadn't shed a tear out of grievance.
But in this moment, his simple words plunged me into a bottomless abyss!
Five years... perhaps it had all been a mistake.
I couldn't help but feel my eyes well up; it was time to wake from the dream of true love and happiness.
"It's me! I'm the one making things difficult for them! Here, take this-and this, I'm giving them all back to you."
As I spoke, I yanked off the baby tooth pendant from Aaron's neck.
The handmade necklace made of black rope was crudely crafted, yet I had cherished it for four years because it was the first gift my son had ever given me. Now, I no longer needed it.
"And this, too."
I removed the ring from my finger.
This was a gift from Elliott when he claimed me all those years ago.
He had designed it specifically for me, a one-of-a-kind creation in the world.
He had poured his heart into it, spending countless days and nights drawing the blueprint, and he had personally crafted it and placed it on my finger.
He said the diamond ring represented "eternal love."
But I no longer needed that either.
However, I was very considerate and didn't hand it to Elliott.
Instead, in front of him, I placed it directly into Courteney's hands.
"You've truly lost your
mind!"
Before Courteney could react, she reached out, but Elliott's powerful frame stepped in

front of her.
He snatched the ring from her grasp and held it tightly in one hand while pressing down. on my shoulder with the other.
His intense presence enveloped me tightly from all sides, and I instinctively tried to escape his control.
I couldn't help but struggle, but he tightened his grip on my shoulder, pulling me back beside him.
Awkwardly letting my hands fall to her sides, Courteney took a deep breath, lowering her gaze to conceal the disappointment in her eyes, and spoke in her usual calm tone. "Ms. Helberg, Mr. Kauffman has been through a lot lately; you shouldn't ignore that."
Aaron hid behind Courteney, gripping the hem of her shirt tightly.
"Why won't she just let Dad be free?"
I looked at the familiar yet strange face, one that I had borne him for ten months, and suddenly felt a wave of exhaustion wash over me.
"May you two lovers find your way back to each other and attain eternal love."
I forced a bittersweet smile, desperately trying to suppress the sadness within me.
I smiled through the pain, forcing myself to maintain the last bit of dignity, and left without looking back at the three of them.
"Yay! I want to stay with Dad; I don't want to be with her! A useless freeloader who only knows how to spend Dad's money! I want a mom like Aunt Courteney!"
Aaron's laughter spilled from the little whirlpool at the corner of his mouth, spreading across his face.
"She only knows how to wash clothes and cook; why does she think she can raise me properly?"
His indifferent words echoed in my ears, and with each breath, I felt an unbearable weight pressing down on me.
After a long silence, Courteney finally spoke, her voice soft.
"Aren't you going to chase after her to see?"
Elliott glanced at the direction I had left, clearly weary.
"She will come to her senses; after all, she is my carefully chosen Luna. She will surely understand my struggles!"
For the next two weeks, it seemed we were all caught in a whirlwind of busyness.

Chapter 5: The Undercurrents of the Dark Wolf Pack Elliott appeared to have truly stopped pursuing Courteney.
Perhaps he really wanted to prove something to me, but it was utterly futile.
What had happened had happened; no matter how much I wished to forget, I simply could not.
From the community werewolf, I learned that Courteney's father had begun applying pressure on Elliott. If Elliott could not become the new Luna, our area and the entire pack would face attacks.
Moreover, the sudden blaring of the alarm summoned us back together once more to attend a special mission bureau meeting.
This was the central management area responsible for coordinating all the regional packs, and every Alpha present at the meeting represented their respective territories.
As I observed the bustling crowd in the mission bureau hall, a wave of anxiety washed over
1. me.
Elliott kindly took my hand, our only intimate contact in half a month.
"Melissa, relax! You will always be my beloved, my one and only Luna. I swear it on the Guardian Moon."
I struggled to smile, but in truth, I held no hope for the man beside me anymore.
musters
The only reason I remained by his side was that I had no one else to rely on.
The mission bureau meeting only heightened my anxiety.

"So, Sebastian Agrigent is the leader of the Dark Wolf Pack? They activated the specific Gifted among many werewolves through the Sacred Hunt, swallowing regions and even devouring their own prey? Now their sights are set on us?"
Elliott exhibited a keen interest in this fellow Alpha from the wolf pack. Typically, dark Alphas lacked such aggressive capabilities unless provoked. Yet, they had coexisted peacefully with the Dark Wolf Pack for over a decade. "But he's from outside our area; we have no idea what kind of strength he possesses." The leaders from other regions appeared somewhat troubled.
"It's obvious their actions violate their oaths; they're nothing but a bunch of Forsake! I don't believe they are descendants of Urfarah, so there's no need to fear them. My Luna once stated with the Oath of the Moon that we could observe the extent of their malevolence before deciding how to handle this matter."
The speaker was Mr. Swan, a man Ldeeply despised-the ruthless bastard who cast Phoebe aside.

The mission bureau meeting concluded amidst heated debate.
Another two weeks flew by, and my relationship with Elliott had nearly reached freezing point.
He was unwilling to spend any more time with me, even miraculously disappearing from my sight.
It wasn't until I heard from a kindergarten teacher that the Kauffman family was moving to the mountainside villa that I sprang into action.
I transformed into my wolf form and raced to the location everyone had mentioned.
Elliott's car was parked in front of the door, and I couldn't believe he had kept such a secret hideaway from me.
As I walked through the entrance, I could clearly hear the intimate sounds of they two interacting.
They were sweetly discussing about something, calling each other "baby" and "darling." "Oh! Good evening, Miss Helberg!"
As I approached the kitchen doorway, Courteney keenly sensed my presence.
She set down the fruit she had been feeding Elliott and flashed me a warm smile.
Elliott looked somewhat strange, clearly surprised that I had found my way here.
The moment Courteney turned around, I caught sight of the claiming mark on her neck. "Congratulations to both of you."
Not wanting to linger here and endure the humiliation, I turned to leave.
"No! Melissa, listen to me, our lives won't change at all."
To my astonishment, Elliott rushed out, cupping my face and kissing me.
"You will always be my Luna; nothing will change because of this damned fate."
"But I'm no longer the only one."
I replied with a smile, and he looked surprised by how lighthearted my tone was.
Elliott appeared visibly flustered.
Unwilling to say more, I had already resolved to withdraw from this boring and ridiculous marriage.
They had found a new place to live, spending their days together, with Courteney wholly devoted to Elliott. Chapter 5: The Undercurrents of the Dark Wolf Pack
All that was left for me was to leave for another region and claim that my partner had died.
