Chapter 4: Suddenly Realizing He Never Understood Me
Melissa's POV
No matter how passionately he expressed himself, I couldn't immerse myself in such "intense" emotions.
Since he wanted to stay in my room, I didn't mind resting in the living room.
After all, once Courteney moved in, I might be directly asked to get out of this home.
It seemed my future would be even worse than what Phoebe described.
"How long are you going to sulk because of her?"
Elliott's voice trembled slightly, his eyes filled with pleading.
"Please! I beg you, okay? Just let me go, Elliott! Everyone knows about you two; isn't that enough humiliation for me? As you wished, you found your fated mate, so you chose to leave with your son. You're affectionate in the community, attending kindergarten gatherings together, leaving me behind! This is what you call resistance, right?"
I felt as if my soul were being gripped tightly by fate's invisible hand, violently torn apart.
I could even hear my own fragile scream echoing through the night sky, yet no one paid it any heed.
"But I never meant to hurt you."
Elliott's face was etched with exhaustion, a weary sigh escaping his throat.
I felt a headache coming on from this awkward conversation, my thumb gently rubbing against my nails, a self-deprecating and bitter smile creeping onto my lips.
"Follow your heart, Elliott! Don't fool yourself into thinking I would make a forgiving decision. I will never accept sharing
he love of a husband and child with another woman."
I absolutely could not become a part of this tangled relationship between the two of them; that would only make me more ridiculous and pathetic.
What I didn't expect was to encounter Courteney the next day while visiting the community hospital.
She wore an elegant purple suit, and her gorgeous face bore a charming smile, like the dew in the early morning.
Upon seeing me, Courteney appeared visibly taken aback.
"Ms. Helberg, what are you doing here?"
She glanced around, seemingly summoning her courage to speak.

Chapter 4: Suddenly Realizing He Never Understood Me "Perhaps I could help you call Mr. Kauffman? I'm so sorry. We just spoke on the phone; Aaron isn't feeling well, and I brought him to the hospital. I informed Mr. Kauffman during the process, so he may have missed your message."
I had no desire to engage in such meaningless chatter; I only wanted to applaud her relaxed and casual demeanor at this moment.
If I hadn't achieved sensory sharing with Elliott, I might genuinely believe she was as innocent and naive as she seemed.
After all, I had clearly seen the provocation in her eyes during our last encounter at the kindergarten; I would be fooled if I allowed myself to believe her.
"You don't need to apologize to her; it has nothing to do with you, Aunt Courteney."
Aaron emerged from the consultation room, holding a small notebook, standing protectively behind Courteney.
His intent was clear. Was he worried I would bully his new mother?
"You little rascal, you should be in kindergarten right now. Who allowed you to wander out?"
Elliott's deep, commanding voice suddenly rang out, two boxes of medication in his hands.
Upon seeing me, he momentarily froze, awkwardly placing the medication behind him. No wonder I was the only one at home in the morning; it seemed they truly couldn't be apart for even a moment. 80%
"Miss Courteney is joking; I'm just an insignificant person. Who Elliott and Aaron care about really has nothing to do with me. In fact, I should thank you; otherwise.. I wouldn't even know how much I annoy others." As soon as the words left my mouth, I noticed Elliott's expression darken suddenly.
"Bad woman! Are you bullying Aunt Courteney with that kind of talk?"
Seeing Aaron's irritable side like this, I felt a bit sad inside; it was as if he was on the verge of directing his fist at me as well.
Before I could respond, I caught a glimpse of Courteney's triumphant smile out of the corner of my eye. Noticing my gaze, she quickly lowered her eyelids, returning to her bright and gentle demeanor.
I felt completely drained, as though all my enthusiasm and energy had been siphoned
away.
"Stop it! Miss Courteney is only suffering from a stomachache, just like you."
Elliott pulled Aaron aside and questioned him again.

"Now, you should be obedient and return to kindergarten. I'm taking you back right now." Aaron appeared visibly frightened, shrinking back slightly, then raised a finger to point at

"It's her! She made me late! She insists on making things difficult for Aunt Courteney! Dad, it's all her fault!"
I had long since given up hope for Aaron, but I was still taken aback by his bold-faced lie.
"I see she's just looking for trouble for Aunt Courteney! Dad, she made me late! She must regret her tantrum and is deliberately causing all this fuss."
"Dad, don't believe her! I want Aunt Courteney to be my mom! I don't want her!"
I remained silent, simply staring at Aaron as he lied.
When had he become like this?
Perhaps it was the second week after the family dinner when Courteney picked Aaron up from kindergarten instead of Elliott.
Looking back, I felt like such a failure.
But what could I do?
This father and son might have nothing to do with me anymore.
Lost in my thoughts, I barely noticed Elliott's expression until a nurse walked past us in the hallway, casting a curious glance our way.
An invisible sense of pressure emanated from Elliott, making it hard for me to breathe.
I slowly raised my eyes to meet his gaze
...What did he mean?
Before I could fully grasp what was happening, Courteney spoke gently.
"Aaron, why are you speaking out of turn? Mr. Kauffman, I've mentioned many times that this is a family matter that I shouldn't interfere with. However, since it involves children, I believe we need to proceed with caution. Whatever happens between adults is one thing, but using children in this way is truly inappropriate."
just a few sentences, she effectively established her position as the lady of the house while completely defining my character in this light.
Her expression, filled with concern for the children," made her appear like a warm, caring
aunt.
I was too weary to even explain myself, my gaze falling on Elliott.
I even thought he might defend me.

"Melissa, what's the point of all this? If you "Melissa, what's the point of all this? If you have any dissatisfaction or other thoughts, you speak directly to me. But making things difficult for Aaron and Courteney-have you considered how much that might disrupt everything?" Elliott's angry words left me utterly stunned, a deep sadness swelling within me.
I had thought Elliott was the man who understood me best.
Having grown up with an unhappy marriage between my parents, I longed for a home of my own. Thus, the seemingly tough and stubborn
