NightTide: The Girl With Red Eyes

We didn’t do much after Owen showed up, they asked me a couple questions but it didn’t really go anywhere; I didn’t know much about myself so I guess that can be expected. They were surprisingly willing to let me work with them. I’m not sure why, maybe they get bored just being the two of them?

I’m not sure what time it was but I woke up feeling someone nudging me. “Hey Red, time to get up” I let out a groan and tried sitting up, I couldn’t open my eyes; I just felt to tired. I got nudged around some more. “Come on Red get up.” I tried shaking my head but that didn’t seem to help me wake up. I twisted around and tried getting up. “Good Red, come on we need to get ready.” I stood up and stumbled over and fell. I groaned again and tried lifting myself up, I felt someone helping me. “Red... are you going to be like this every morning?” I was awake enough now to notice it sounded like Kayla.

I tried opening my eyes again and looking at her. “Sorry, I just feel really tired.” She let go of me and walked off somewhere. I spent a good minute or two trying to open my eyes when something cold touched my face. “AH!” it woke me up to say the least. My eyes shot open, it hurt a little and they started watering but I felt awake.

I looked at Kayla and she started making noises, “Aw that’s so cute!” She suddenly squeezed me... “Oh, sorry Red.” She let go of me. “Hey, your bathrooms over there.” She pointed to three doors next to each other. Each door had one of our names on it. The bathroom itself was basic. I looked around it and there were some clothes on a shelf and towels hanging on a rack.

After I was done in the bathroom I checked out the clothes that were folded up. It was a black tank top with dark colored cargo pants. They were surprisingly comfortable. They also had another one of those black armbands laying under them, I guessed I was supposed to put that on to. That’s also when I noticed there was a ruler along the door. It had a dot that looked to be about how tall I was, the dot was on 5 feet 5 inches. I finished up what I was doing and walked. Kayla and Owen were waiting by the door to the room for me.

Owen was looking at his watch and seemed rather pleased. “Well Red, that didn’t take as long as I thought it would, I guess we’ll be on time after all.”

I was confused, so I asked what him what was going on. “What are we trying to not be late for?”

He was calm, I guess it wasn’t a strange question though. “The Pathfinder wants us to move some packages, I think we’re going a couple towns over. Well come on Red let’s go.” He waved for me to walk over to them and he opened the door.

When we stepped out of the room I noticed the arm bands on Owen and Kayla, Kayla’s was light blue and Owen’s was a very dark blue, there outfits matched the arm band colors as well. The difference between them was Kayla was wearing a T-shirt and Owen was wearing a jacket. The symbols on the bands were slightly different from mine, they each had a strange arrow in the shield as well as the swords.

Owen looked at his wrist and they pointed to the right. “looks like the pickups near the right entrance.” Kayla nodded and I just followed.

It felt weird both Kayla and Owen were a good bit taller than me, I had to ask them. “How tall are you two?” I don’t think Owen herd me but Kayla looked over.

She smiled and told me about the two of them. “I’m about 5,9 Owen’s a monstrous 6,8. It’s the viruses we’ve assimilate with, we got them around the time puberty starts. Owen is more of a brute and I prefer moving around quickly. That monster over there can hulk up 600 pounds with one arm. Supposedly his muscle strength is going to keep growing until he hits about 26, he’s 23 right now, I’m 19... Hey wait you’re 16 right Red?”

I replied though I’m not sure. “I think, at least; that’s what I was told.”

Kayla seemed satisfied to hear that. “Well don’t worry Red, we’ll show you how everything works around here.” She is cheerful.
