Chapter 77
Chapter 77
Mickey was taken aback, completely unprepared for Marie’s phone call.
“Although feeling puzzled, he patiently listened as Marie asked on the phone, “I’m sorry to call you out of the blue… As you know, my daughter Giselle is not getting any younger. I heard that you two have been dating for over a year, so I wanted to ask if you have any plans to get married.“”
Mickey’s expression changed at the question, and he blurted out, “Didn’t you know that Giselle and I already broke up?”
There was silence on the other end of the line, followed by a flustered tone, “What? You and Giselle have broken up? But just recently…”
Thinking of how Giselle had left him and immediately married another man, Mickey felt a vengeful urge and said, “She broke up with me a while ago, and she didn’t tell you?”
“No, she didn’t… I just found out… I wouldn’t have bothered you if I had known. I’m so sorry.”
Marie apologized profusely and was about to hang up when Mickey hurriedly reminded her, “Since you didn’t know that we had broken up, I guess you also don’t know that she married someone else on a whim?”
“What?” Marie’s voice rose, taken aback, “She got married?”
“You really didn’t know!”
Mickey felt a growing sense of satisfaction.
“She might be hiding it from you because the man she married is just average in many ways… Marie, even though Giselle and I broke up, I still hope she can have a good life.”
“Who would have thought that she would marry someone else right after breaking up with me? It really breaks my heart…”
Mickey pretended to sigh. “You should talk to her. With a man like that, who knows what her life will be like…”
Leaving some things unsaid can be the most impactful.
Marie seemed frightened and ended the call quickly. Mickey tightly gripped his phone. “Giselle… If I can’t be happy, neither can you!”
Mickey was shrouded in inexplicable resentment and his thoughts twisted…
Giselle had just received a call from Marie and heard her mother crying and complaining on the phone. “Do you not consider me your mother anymore? You didn’t even tell me about something as big as getting married!”
“Your father and I raised an ungrateful daughter…”
Giselle’s heart lightened, and she quickly asked, “How did you find out I got married?”
“It doesn’t matter how I found out! If I weren’t so clever, I wouldn’t have known that you did such a big thing behind our backs!”
Giselle pursed her lips and could only first try to calm Marie down, and then tell her, “I was wrong about the marriage thing. I made the decision too hastily, but it has been done… And I’m actually quite satisfied with this marriage. You can’t expect me to divorce now, can you?”
Marie sobbed, “But what if he’s not a good person? You’re our only child, and we don’t want to see you jump into a fire pit!”
“Mom… Don’t worry, getting married might not be a bad thing, and you should know the person I married…”
Chapter 77
“Who?”
The one you introduced me to last time…”
Marie was shocked. “You mean the one I introduced?”
“Yes, after we met that day, I thought he was a decent person, so we talked and decided to get married.”
“Why is it him? You really caught me off guard!” Marie’s mood improved a bit upon hearing that the person was introduced by her.
However, she quickly began to scold Giselle. “Anyway, you were too impulsive about this. I’ll talk to your dad tonight, and we’ll see if you get scolded!”

Giselle acted sweetly, “Mom, please put in a good word for me. After all, you introduced him to me, so he can’t be too unreliable. Besides, I’ve been getting along well with him these days and think he’s quite nice!”
“How nice?”
Recalling what Giselle’s ex–boyfriend had said, Marie’s mood dropped again. “If he’s really that great, why couldn’t he find a suitable partner before and marry you in such a hurry?”
This concern of Marie’s had also worried Giselle before, but after spending time with Hymes, Giselle no longer felt concerned.
Whether someone got married or met the right person could sometimes be determined by objective conditions, but sometimes, it was purely a matter of fate.
Giselle thought that the connection between her and Hymes could be considered fate.
“Please trust me, Mom. Why would I agree to marry him if he was unreliable?”
“Well, I still need to discuss this with your dad!”
Marie was still upset and not so easily appeased.
Giselle knew that her life wouldn’t be as easy once this secret was exposed. If her parents didn’t approve, they would definitely have opinions about Hymes.
They might even frequently urge her to divorce him….
But Giselle had never thought about divorce.
At least, since marrying Hymes, Giselle felt that every day had been fulfilling and happy.
When she got home that evening, Giselle told Hymes the truth. “Hymes, my mom found out.”
I kept it from her for so long, and she’s a little upset…”
Seeing Hymes serious expression, Giselle quickly added. “But don’t worry, I’ll persuade them as soon as possible. Once they agree, you can come with me to visit my hometown, okay?”
Hymes suddenly reached out and gently caressed Giselle’s face. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll handle whatever comes up.”
“I don’t need your help yet. Let me handle it first…
‘Do
you
think this isn’t my business?”
Hymes stared at her deeply. “They are my parents now too. Our rushed marriage was indeed somewhat immature, but since we’re married, I’ll face whatever comes our way together with you.”
Chapter 77
He was a mature, rational, and calm man.
Meeting him was her good fortune….
Giselle nodded shyly. “I’ll call on you if I can’t resolve it, but for now, your involvement would just add fuel to the fire, so it’s
up to me.”
After some thought, Hymes agreed, and Giselle breathed a sigh of relief.
Although the secret was out, at least, it had been discussed, and they no longer needed to be on edge.
After all, adults should be able to take responsibility for their decisions, and Marie should understand, right?
After dinner, Hymes rubbed Giselle’s head, “I’m going out for a while.”
His affectionate gesture was becoming more and more practiced. Giselle blushed. “Where are you going?”
Hymes looked serious. “I’m meeting up with a couple of friends. Do you want to come along?”
“I have to deal with a contract later, so I won’t go.”
“Alright, I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
Giselle felt reassured and waved her hand repeatedly. “Go ahead!”
