Chapter 39: First Heartbreak Part 1
[Luna]
Leena and I haven't entered the hall yet where Mirai and Aira's birthday party will take place.
We were walking at the gazebo while holding hands as we looked up at the moon.
"Hey, do you still remember the story of the Sun and the Moon?" Leena asked.
"Of course, every single day! By any chance, do you still want the Sun and the Moon to end up together?" I said with excitement.
"Hmm, yes, of course! I want them to have a happy ending, but, as Moon says, their fates are already decided. So, I guess they can't be. But I really want them to be together though..." she said while still looking at the moon with a smile.
"What if I let it happen?" I said, and her eyes widened while looking at me in surprise.
"You can?" I nodded, and she hugged me happily.
"But how?" she questioned, perplexed.
"Did you forget something?" I uttered while raising an eyebrow. Her forehead furrowed together and then her face lit up.
"How did I even forget that you are now the Goddess of Creation and Universe?! Yay! I can't wait for that to happen!" she beamed happily and hugged me again.
"Wait, what? Who's the Goddess of Creation and Universe?" We looked behind us and saw Mirai with a confused expression. “Me!” Leena and I answered at the same time. And Mirai was even more confused and slightly scratched her head frustratedly.
"Ahh, I should go!" she whined and left while pouting. Leena and I laughed seeing Mirai’s reaction.
We decided to go to the hall. I knew the squad was looking for us. When we entered, Leena and I looked at each other knowingly. As we approached the squad table, they all stared at us in awe as their gaze shifted from Leena to me back and forth. We didn't say anything even when they asked us who we were. They are still trying to guess. We just giggled at their reaction. Sometimes we will answer them but speak at the same time which confuses them more.
"Aish, you’re playing tricks again!" they whined, and we just laughed.
The party started, and Mirai and Aira came out with pretty smiles. Everyone smiled in awe when they saw the twins. The hall was filled with flattering and flowery words for the twins. Someone even constructs a poem on the spot.
The two royal families were sitting on their seats on the platform. There’s King Collins and his Queen of Majika with Princess Caitlyn; on the other side of the platform were King Asgar and his wife, Queen Victoria of Black Wizards with Prince Fier. And two seats in the center were for the birthday celebrant.
After some introduction and everything, some magic soldiers with their wands line up at each table and then do some magic. Cutleries and plates appear and then many maidservants line up holding a platter each full of dishes.
And below the platform, a long table with a luxurious design appeared and some maidservants quickly filled the table with delicious dishes. Then the royal families went down the platform toward the long table.
Seeing the delicious food in front of me made my stomach grumble.
The celebration was fun and harmonious. Some talented magic soldiers made some performances on the stage which made the celebration more magical for the twins. Mirai also performs some advanced magic she learned from the book I gave her. A few elite teachers and masters praise Mirai’s talent for magic and named her ‘Unrivaled Young Mage’.
Everyone congratulated Mirai the entire night. Some even approached her asking for some advice. Mirai smiled proudly as she gave me and Leena a thumbs up. The young girl was very grateful for my teaching.
Before the party ended, Bryle approached me and stared me in the eyes. Then he also looked Leena in the eyes. Later on, he grinned at me and winked.
"Hehehe, I know you're Luna!"
Leena and I widened our eyes and looked at each other. She gestured to me how Bryle found out but I just shrugged and laughed.
"How did you find out?" I asked while chuckling.
He smirked and said, "Because my heart knew you—" he immediately covered his mouth when he realized what he said. I was amused.
Leena heard that, and she was also amused and teased Bryle with a flushed face because of embarrassment.
"Wow, Bryle, you didn't even tell me you like my twin like that. I should’ve helped you! Hahaha," Bryle blushed even more and covered his face. The entire squad heard that, so they teased Bryle and me.
My face burns at all the teasing. ‘Oh, my god! I’m pretty sure my face looks like a tomato right now.’
I couldn’t stand it anymore so I stood up and pulled Bryle away.
We arrived at the palace garden. It was peaceful here and the wind breeze brushed my skin cold.
Bryle became silent, and I noticed I was still holding his hand so I immediately let go. Waah, embarrassing!
I touched my cheek as I felt my face burning from the embarrassment.
Bryle can't look directly at me either. He was tense as well. I cleared my throat and sat on the swing. Bryle looked at me with a smile and he sat on the other swing.
We sat there quietly.
"Bryle..."
"Luna..."
We spoke at the same time and we burst out laughing.
"Ah, you go first," he said, and I nodded.
The wind blew as I composed myself and still felt a little nervous. Woo! This is it!
"Hmm, there's... there's..." I sighed and got off the swing and approached him.
His Adam's apple moved as he swallowed nervously and his eyes widened slightly while looking at me. I leaned my face close to his face and stared into his eyes intently without blinking.
I can feel his shaking nerves. I chuckled mentally. He's too nervous... I've never done this before and I'm nervous as well.
Our noses almost touched, and his breathing fanned my face. I inhaled sharply and said, "Do... Do you like me?" I swallowed and bit my lips lightly. What if I misinterpret his actions? That would be embarrassing.
His eyes widened even more. His lips were trembling as if he choked on his words and couldn’t find the words to say.
I let out a sigh. "Oh, forget it!" I said, and I was about to turn around when he suddenly pulled me and because he was still on the swing, we both fell down. I’m on top of him while he’s on the bottom. My eyes widened and my heart pounded like crazy. I immediately felt embarrassed. I think my face flushed red again. I quickly sat up while biting my lips, trying to suppress a smile to form on my lips.
"No... I don't like you..." he said, and my world stopped spinning; my smile faded and my shoulders drooped down in dismay. He doesn't like me?
He doesn't like me.
He doesn't like me.
He doesn't like me.
Those words echoed in my head like a song.
"What?" I let out and felt my tears well up in the corner of my eyes. I can't face him. I was too embarrassed. All this time I was assuming things I shouldn’t have.
"I mean—I don't like you because..."
"Don't." I cut him off. My chest felt so heavy right now and I don’t think I could still listen to his words. It’s painful to know that he doesn’t like me the same way I do.
"But Luna..."
"Please, Bryle, I don't want to hear it," I said while holding back tears. Why am I hurting?
Are you a fool? He doesn’t like you.
Yeah, you love him but he doesn't.
"Luna, you misunderstood—" he tried to say something, but I raised my right hand to stop him.
"I said I don't want to hear it! It’s fine, I get it!" I snapped and tears streamed down my face. I didn't want him to see me cry, so I immediately teleported away from him.
"Luna!"
I found myself in the forest where the tree portal was before. It still hasn't changed. I sat on the rock and stared at the moon with a gloomy expression and weak like a deflated balloon.
From up here, I had a view of the palace and the whole town.
Tears streamed down my face nonstop as my heart throbbed in pain.
"Ugh, you are so stupid Luna to like him! Well, you know you can't love him from the very start and yet you still do. Isn't it better for you to just stay friends with him? You're a Goddess and he is just a gifted human so you can't be together. We were like the Sun and the Moon. We’re far from each other's reach. Yeah, we’re close yet so far."
Suddenly, it’s raining cats and dogs. Ugh, is the rain trying to console my broken heart?
I closed my eyes and felt the rain hitting my face and whole body. When I was still invisible, the rain couldn’t soak me, but now I’m soaked and looked pitiful like a homeless beggar.
Somehow, the sound of the rain and wind calms me like I’m listening to a lullaby.
I don’t know how many hours I’ve been soaked in the rain but I just sat frozen like a rock and felt numb all over. I was sad because the thick dark clouds that still foreshadowed rain obscured the moonlight. Thunder and lightning flash in the sky tremendously; they foreshadow my swirling emotion at the moment.
