Chapter 6: Sum of Their Parts
I aimed at the guards through my blaster scope and counted 3-2-1 fire and took out the first guard after trying 3 times but to my surprise, Ernie was taking guards out left and right, probably because of all those first-person shooters he used to play before the bedwetting and nightmare incidents. My mind began to drift off and onto the subject and I let out a few chuckles before aiming my blaster scope and firing, but only this time I hit several guards. After incapacitating most of the guards near the entrance we placed the charges near the generators and near the gates as well before opening the main doors to the facility and incapacitating the other guards as well. When we entered, I realized that the facility had a maze of corridors and time was of the essence so I asked mac if he could scan for enhanced human DNA, minus ours. After a few minutes, he located 2 life signs below us on the far sign of the building, surrounded by other life signs that registered as a normal human.
We started down the halls, stunning every guard and it almost felt too easy until Mac detected an ambush up ahead and we had two options; surrender and wait for the perfect time, or blast through it and hope they don't kill mom and dad. I thought about it for a few minutes until I came to a compromise; I would let them take me and Ernie to our parents while leaving, Mac behind to break us out at a predetermined time. Before starting down the hall I whispered, Mac... stealth mode until 10:30 pm, then set off the charges, and he acknowledged and took off before we darted down the hall stunning guards until 2 guards came from behind and picked us up, took our blasters, handcuffed us and put sacks over our heads as Ernie started to cry.
the guards walked for quite a while before taking the sacks off our heads and throwing us into a cell where all the occupants seemed to be asleep until we entered. Me and Ernie nervously called out "mom...dad...grandma?...is that you and just as fear began to set in the unknown figures sat up; it was mom, dad, and grandma. The sight of them brought me joy and me and Ernie jumped into their arms and mom said "thank god you guys are safe" and then grandma asked "how'd you kids get here and Ernie said "Mac helped us get here" and they all looked back and forth at each other saying who's Mac. I explained to them the events of the last 2 weeks and how we found Mac but they still looked as us goofy so I skipped the subject and told them about what we had witnessed on television. It was at that moment that I realized how bad the situation must be in order to make even grandma have a worried look on her face.
Dad broke the silence and said we have a lot of mess to clean up... if we ever get out of here. I told mom and dad that Mac was coming to get us at 10:30 and mom said "sweetie now is not to time for imaginary friends" and I said "Mac is real and you'll see when he comes to get us" and grandma turned to mom and said, "we've got no other options so well wait for Mac". Meanwhile, the head guard radioed Mr. Gearing saying he had caught us, and Mr. gearing told the guard to kill me and Ernie but let mom, dad, and grandma go. When the guard entered the cell he said Mr. gearing said the adults are free but the kids will be murdered and dad spat in his face and sat if you kill them then your gonna kill all of us" and the guard smiled and said "perfect, I been wanting to ice you since I first saw you, you fucking piece of trash" and Dad said "do it" as the guard drew his pistol and pointed it at dad before lowering it and saying your time will come motherfucker" and left the cell.
Several hours passed as I checked the watch I hid on my leg and it read: 10:25 pm, as I grabbed a lock picker from inside my sock and freed everyone and told them to wait for the signal. My watch read 10:29 pm and a few seconds later the facility was racked with ground shaking explosions and the lights went out thus releasing our cell door lock and just like that, the assault was on.
