Chapter 56
Chapter 56 Gone Was the Money The moment Damien finished speaking, he unleashed all his rage and hatred on Clarissa. When Clarissa woke up the next day, she discovered she was covered in bruises. Clarissa was convinced that she was not to be blamed for this incident. In the first place, it was all Damien's fault for being biased. He chose to only listen to Madelynn's side of the story rather than attempting to consult Clarissa. The thought only served to further stoke the flames of her anger.
After she got out of bed and washed up, she refused to talk to Damien at all. Instead, she grabbed a huge shopping bag and dumped some of her clothes into it. She even stole both of their marriage certificates. Clarissa wouldn't be staying in this house tonight. After that, she flagged down a cab and headed to the hospital instead of troubling Damien to send her there.
As expected, she bumped into Madelynn in the hospital corridor. The latter was in the midst of shooting her movie.
Clarissa simply stood there silently. Madelynn could see that the latter wasn't in a good mood with just one glance. However, she wasn't sure if Clarissa's moody state was related to Damien.
After all, Madelynn had told him what happened on Monday. Typically speaking, if Damien wanted to unleash his fury on Clarissa, he would've done it by now.
"Miss York, I'll be the one doing the talking regarding my own matters from now on. There's no need for you to play the role of the messenger. I know you want to get married to him. Don't worry, he'll be yours to take one day!" After that, Clarissa stormed off in a huff.
Everyone else who was present looked very confused. Madelynn had always maintained a gentle and generous persona, so she was quick to explain the situation. "She's my sister. Don't worry, that's just how she is. Let's hurry and shoot the next scene." After that, Madelynn watched Clarissa enter a ward with a cold glare. She remembered seeing the ward that Clarissa's mother stayed in. The medical card showed the patient's name, Theresa Hale. Since Hale was a pretty uncommon surname, Madelynn found it easy to remember. Back then, this woman was the one...

Clarissa intended to spend the night in her mother's ward. Tomorrow, she would return to ber bedroom in the dorm.
Since her mother was staying in a private ward, there was a bed designated for her caretaker inside. She passed the time conversing with Anne, so she didn't feel lonely at all.
Madelynn: (What's wrong with your wise? The moment she arrived at the hospital louay, demanded to know what exactly I told you. She even claimed that she'll entrust you to me once she's gone through the divorce witli you. Everyone in the crew made fun or ine because oi this, so I had no choice but to claim that she's my sister.)
Damien happened to be sitting on the couch at home. When he saw the text message, he couldn't help but purse his lips. A vein soon throbbed on his temple. He went ahead and reported to his grandfather. "Clarissa won't be home tonight, She wants to take care of her mother at the hospital, because she's scared her mother's condition might plunge unexpectedly."
Damien's grandfather was a very understanding man. "Of course. One can never expect the caretaker to be able to deal with many things."
However, Damien wasn't concerned about that. On Monday, just as Clarissa arrived at the company for work, the landline phone on her desk started ringing "Come here." Damien's cold command rang from the receiver. Clarissa was in the midst of being grouchy and angry at Damien. Since he wanted her to go to his office, she would refuse to comply like a stubborn mule. Besides, there were many tasks to be done on a Monday morning. Damien spent a long time waiting in his office, but Clarissa had never shown up. In the end, he decided to give Howard a call. "Tell Clarissa to come to my office immediately." Howard could feel numbness breaking out on his scalp. The reason Damien demanded Howard to call Clarissa in his stead was because he was unable to summon her. If Howard failed to usher Clarissa into Damien's office, it would be his sole responsibility...
"Clarissa, Mr. Lawrence wants you to go to his office," Howard said to Clarissa in a respectful tone.
"Let me finish dealing with this accounting sheet." Clarissa was focused on the digital sheet on her screen, and didn't bother turning to look at Howard as she spoke. That accounting sheet was very complex, which made Howard's brain buzz anxiously. He called Damien and told him that Clarissa was busy with her work. Damien took a deep breath in order to reel in his temper. Then, he said, "Tell her she can forge about the money if she doesn't come here as soon as possible."
Howard didn't understand the significance of that term, merely thinking it to be a private joke between the married couple.
He was the head of the finance department, but he ended up becoming a lackey between the husband and wife for the day.
After he passed the message to Clarissa, the latter was stunned for a moment before marking the completed areas on the sheet. Then, she rose to her feet and made her way toward Damien's office.
She knew very well the money Damien meant was the final payment of five million dollars. Clarissa had spent so much time and effort into putting up a performance for the world. She couldn't simply leave without getting her reward
Even though she bought her computer without spending her own money and didn't need to worry about her financial situation anymore, she was still reluctant to ditch the final payment. After all, both of them had agreed on that sum beforehand. Soon, Clarissa was knocking on Damien's office,
