Chapter A Gamble For Two 38
Chapter 38
"Does your stomach hurt?"
Angelina shook her head, but Chester became even more anxious. He quickly called the
hospital to rush the ambulance.
After ending the call, Emily sighed. "She's not in pain yet, so you don't need to be anxious. If you urge the hospital too much and they lose patience, then..."
"Like parents, doctors have compassion. They won't do that."
Emily frowned slightly. "If we had more money, this wouldn't-
"Mom, Isadora, have you prepared everything the baby will need?"
"Ah, right!" Florence quickly chimed in. "I was wondering what I forgot. Clothes, pants, everything needs to be ready. You also need formula, bottles, cups, hot water-get all of that ready." "Does the baby wear clothes as soon as they're born?"
"Well, they can't just be naked! Babies are people too. Of course, they'll need clothes right after being born."
"Good thing it's summer, so it won't be too cold"
"Exactly."
"you need to take deep breaths like what they show on TV. Exhale and inhale-regulate your breathing as if you're doing aerobics. Take deep, strong breaths."
Angelina breathed deeply for a while, noticing that Chester's grip on her hand suddenly tightened.
"You're hurting me."
"Sorry."

Chester quickly loosened his grip. "What can I do to help you?"
"Let go. Your hand is making mine sweaty."
Chester shook his head. He only loosened his grip, but he was still holding her hand.
"Angelina, if you feel uncomfortable anywhere you have to say so. And when you get to the hospital, tell the doctor if you feel any pain."
As Emily packed the stuff, her eyes reddened. "If it hurts, ask them to relieve it. I heard there's some kind of injection that can help. But it doesn't matter what they suggest. Just know that this isn't something we can skimp on. We have to spend that money." "Angelina, you must stay strong!"
Angelina's nose tingled. "What if I go in and don't come back out?"
"Don't say that! Take it back! That's bad luck!" Florence immediately had her take her words back to dispel the negativity.
Angelina did as she said, but her mood suddenly grew heavy.
"It won't happen, Modern medicine is very advanced. Things like that won't happen."
"But-"
"No buts."
At that moment, Angelina even forgot that she had been mad at Chester just minutes earlier.
Outside, Gerald paced back and forth, walking in circles. Finally, he called Emily out.
"Here's 30 thousand. It's what's left from before, plus this month's salary."
Emily nodded. "Alright, I still have some money here too. Do you think it'll be enough? If not, I'll think of something. I asked around, and they said giving birth usually costs tens of thousands. There'll be a list later. I'll go through it with Chester, and we'll check everything off before signing." Angelina continued to take deep breaths. Suddenly, she felt her stomach start to hurt, and something else seemed to come out. Her face flushed as she pulled the blanket over herself.
"Emily, Isadora, Madam Hastings, could you all step out for a moment?"
"Step out?"
"What's wrong? Are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere?"
"I need to use the bathroom."
"I'll go with you."
Without another word, Chester scooped her up and carried her toward the bathroom. Just as
he was about to help her inside, Angelina closed the door behind hier.
Chester had no choice but to wait outside. At that moment, the ambulance arrived.
Hello? Building One. Upstairs. Yes."
After hanging up, he noticed something strange on his hand. It was bright red.
His temples throbbed slightly. "Angelina..."
Suddenly, a noise came from the bathroom. Angelina looked down and saw her legs covered in blood. Holding onto the toilet for support, she couldn't even catch her breath. She felt dizzy, and she collapsed to the floor.
