Love and Fortune A Gamble for Two (Angela and Chester)

Chapter A Gamble For Two 39

Chapter 39

There was a loud bang as Chester kicked the restroom door open. He gaped at Angelina, who was curled up on the ground. She looked nothing like she had mere seconds ago. "What's wrong?" he demanded.

"Angie..." Isadora gasped when she saw the scene.

"How did this happen? Why is she bleeding so much?"

"I was with her the whole time during the prenatal check-up. She was fine!" Emily said as tears of panic rolled down her cheeks.

Knocks came from outside the door.

"Doctor, she's bleeding-there's a lot of blood!"

Chester's mind was blank as he gazed at the limp woman in his arms. "Angelina! Angelina, stay with me! Angelina..." She had already passed out, but he did not stop calling out to her even as he bolted downstairs where the ambulance was waiting. Angelina heard Chester calling her name, but she couldn't get a single word out. It wasn't until she had been strapped to a stretcher and an oxygen mask had been placed over the lower half of her face that she regained some consciousness. "Isadora, take the car with Dad and meet us at the hospital. Mom, come with me," Chester said urgently.

Beads of sweat rolled off his skin and fell on Angelina's forehead. She saw his Adam's apple? bob as he gripped her hand tightly. "Don't be scared..."

Angelina had considered the pain of childbirth but did not expect it to be so severe. She

blacked out from the pain before they even reached the hospital.

Emily sobbed when she saw Angelina passing out. She was on the verge of collapsing herself

as she urged the doctor, "Doctor, please! You have to save her. Please!"

"She'll need a C-section. Have the hospital and medical team ready to operate on her the moment she arrives," the doctor said. "The baby could be running low on oxygen as we speak. We must act fast or the patient's life will be in danger!" Upon hearing this, Emily couldn't hold herself together anymore and fainted. She couldn't stand the sight of blood and likely passed out because of it.

While Angelina had gained a few pounds after her pregnancy, that didn't mean she could sustain so much blood loss. The doctor tried to stop the bleeding, and before long, clumps of blood-soaked cotton piled up. Choppe

Meanwhile, Megan had bailed on Alexander once again. Since Rosalind came into the picture, he was starting to feel sidelined.

Megan was supposed to catch a movie with him tonight, but she forgot all about it and decided to watch it with Rosalind instead. More importantly, she didn't even feel sorry enough to explain herself. Alexander smoked as he stood outside the theater, furious that Megan had forgotten about him. But it wasn't like he could or dared to do anything about it.

"Mr. Hunt, perhaps I could have them cut off the power?" Tony Geller, his assistant, suggested helpfully.

"No, she's scared of the dark," Alexander snapped.

"Then, what if we-"

"Stay out of my business."

Alexander had only just finished his cigarette when Chester called him. "Hey-"

"Angelina's in labor. She's not doing too well," Chester said.

Alexander snubbed the cigarette and asked, "Which hospital are you heading to? I'll make the

arrangements."

Chester told him the address and asked the doctor in the ambulance, "When will we arrive at the hospital?"

He then addressed Alexander, "Get the doctors ready in five minutes. We can't lose Angelina

or the baby."

"Got it. Leave it to me," Alexander promised solemnly. After hanging up, he glanced at Tony and said, "Call the hospital and have the best obstetrician waiting by the entrance." Chester stayed with Angelina the entire journey. She had blacked out completely at this point. The oxygen mask was still strapped over her face, though she would not stop bleeding "Angelina..." Chester murmured, clutching her hand as it hung limply by her side. "Angelina, wake up! Stay with me, Angelina!"

She remained unconscious as they wheeled her into the operating room. When the doors. Slammed shut in Chester's face, an intense roaring

filled his mind. He then called Alexander

again.

A moment later, the doors to the operating room opened again. This time, the doctors allowed Chester to stay with Angelina throughout her surgery.

He held Angelina's hand through the blue surgery drape and peered at her pale, delicate face. The doctors worked on Angelina and the baby on the other side of the drape. Before long, a Chapp
