Love and Fortune A Gamble for Two (Angela and Chester)

Chapter A Gamble For Two 27

Chapter 27

Angelina finished selling her last designer bag, leaving nothing behind.

Outside, Florence was teaching Emily how to make braised short ribs. The aroma spread throughout the entire house.

First, she seared the short ribs until they were lightly cooked. Then, she sliced them into even pieces, neither too thick nor too thin. After that, she arranged the ribs at the bottom of a pot and poured broth into it before adding some vegetables. She then placed it in the oven for over an hour. After taking it out, the braised short ribs were ready to be served.

Angelina ate several pieces in one go. Florence couldn't stop smiling.

"Tasty, right?"

"Very. Your cooking is really good."

"I've taught your mother-in-law how to make this. She's young and skilled."

Emily felt embarrassed after being praised. "Madam Hastings, you're teasing me again."

The more Emily was praised, the better her cooking became. Angelina was somewhat grateful

for Florence.

While they were chatting happily, Chester returned carrying a watermelon.

"Mom, Madam Hastings."

"Ah, how lucky you are. Your son is handsome, and your daughter-in-law is beautiful. Usually, when kids grow up, they don't like living with their elders. Your family is blessed." "Where did the watermelon come from?"

"I bought it."

Chester came out holding a kitchen knife, ready to cut the watermelon for Angelina. He lifted. the knife high as if he was about to chop the cutting board in half.

"Hey! Hey!" Florence snatched the knife from his hand. "Child, that's not how you cut a watermelon. People might be more scared of the way you cut a watermelon than an execution." Chester was rendered speechless by her comment

Florence was gentle with her hands but strong enough. In no time, the watermelon was cut in

half.

Even though the watermelon was large, a ripe watermelon was crunchy. As soon as there was a small crack, it would split on its own. And with a little pressure, it was easy to cut into. The watermelon was crisp and sweet.

Angelina ate so much that her stomach became bloated. Her appetite had increased. These past few days, bloating had become a big issue. Her hands, legs, and feet were swollen like balloons. After lunch, Chester hadn't left and said he needed to change his clothes. Angelina lay on the bed, gazing out the window at the scenery.

Chester had not changed his clothes. He was looking around the room.

At that moment, Angelina's phone vibrated. She was about to check, but Chester grabbed it

first.

Not knowing what to say, Angelina let him check her phone. She had changed her number anyway, so there was nothing to hide.

"Angie, I'm back in the country. I'd like to meet you."

Chester was taken aback and handed the phone to Angelina.

Angelina frowned when she saw the unfamiliar number. "I don't know who this is. I didn't save the number."

"Louis."

Angelina was tongue-tied.

She had just refused his money, and now, he was reaching out to her. Chester had previously felt guilty toward Louis, but all that remained now was disgust.

He immediately called back and put it on speaker, Louis answered quickly, "Angie.

"It's me."

"Let Angie speak."

"She's asleep. Talk to me if you must."

After a brief silence, Louis sneered, "What's there to talk about between us?"

"I admit that I've wronged you in the past, but Angelina is my wife now."

"Did you forbid her from taking the money? For the sake of your pitiful pride, are you going to make Angie suffer?" Louis questioned, his tone carrying a hint of anger. "Why do you think three million is enough for her?"

Louis didn't answer. He came from an ordinary family, so three million dollars was a lot to him.

"Louis, I'm bankrupt, not dead. Bankruptcy is only temporary."

"Since Angie is asleep, should we meet and talk?
