Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Marilyn’s gaze never left the direction where Robert was. Now, she began to envy Naomi, who had the right to choose freely. Marilyn’s envy and fantasy were interrupted by a voice.
“On behalf of the Zabel family of Angevin, I wish Mr. Hoffman happiness and longevity. I hope that you have a long, healthy life!” Kendrick came to the center of the banquet hall and bowed slightly with his head and his hands crossed. “This is a gift from the Zabel family–a turquoise–colored screen!”
Many elders at the banquet looked at Kendrick and were pleased with him. The people sent by the Zabel family to Navarre were full of energy and vigor!
After Kendrick had given his gift, he glanced at Robert’s table and sneered, “Naomi, if you ask a friend to come to a banquet, you should at least ask him to stand up and wish the person celebrating his birthday–Mr. Hoffman, right?”
Stephen, who was already eighty years old, was sitting at the main table and smiling.
The guests all turned to look at Robert when they heard Kendrick’s words. The invitees were all powerful and well–known people. As it is, all these people at this age were self–made. They didn’t like those who were opportunistic and unmotivated. In their eyes. Robert happened to be such a person.
Marilyn’s face changed slightly after hearing this.
Saying some congratulatory words were of no issue, but on this occasion, after one has finished with their congratulatory wish, they needed to give the congratulatory gifts. What did Robert bring as a congratulatory gift?
On such an occasion, an ordinary gift could not be given out.
After Kendrick finished speaking, he sat on Marilyn’s right and looked at Robert like he was waiting to see a joke.
In the presence of so many eyes, Robert stood up with a composed expression and no trace of guilt.
Kendrick was a little upset when he saw Robert’s calm attitude. Kendrick deliberately went to Marilyn and sneered, “It seems like Robert was well–prepared to butter up to the Hoffman family!“
Robert looked at the host seat and smiled, “I wish Mr. Hoffman a longer and healthier life. I hope that you will spend the coming long years in happiness. The gift was prepared in a rush because I was short of time. It is not something big. I know Mr. Hoffman is an avid stamp collector, so I hope this postage stamp conveys my sincere feelings.”
After saying that, Robert took out the gift box, which he had prepared earlier, from his inner pocket. He walked forward steadily and placed it on the reception table, acting calmly from beginning to end.
The level of composure showcased by Robert made Kendrick feel a little surreal.
Even though the rest of the guests‘ first impression of Robert was terrible, they still gave him a thumbs–up in their hearts. It seems this young man was not as bad as they had thought.
Stephen, who was already 80 years old, had gray hair and wore a suit, was feebly sitting there. However, when he heard the word “postage stamp” he immediately got excited and hurriedly motioned the butler to bring the gift box to him.
Kendrick snorted coldly. He also wanted to see what postage stamp Robert could afford to gift. The postage stamp that could make Stephen open his eyes could not be something random. Those worth only a few hundred dollars were not fit to be taken out and gifted to him.
When the gift box was opened, Kendrick and Marilyn were stunned. This was the postage stamp they had competed for at the auction the other day. What was going on?
The Zabinski family, the wealthiest family in Yrinas, was the one who had the postage stamp, Why was it being given as a gift by Robert?
