Chapter SAVAGE JAXSON - Nauvree Needs a Favor
Blue Lark Guild, Dread Hideout
SAVAGE JAXSON
Savage had gone to bathe in the pond. And when he came back. Hair soaked and still damp from the morning dip he found her gone.
His gaze scanned the tent and noticed nothing was in disarray bad enough to indicate a struggle. She left.
Walking out he spotted Phalanx near an outcropping of the fortress.
He marched across the courtyard. “Why are you here? Not with her.”
Phalanx was running the tip of his dagger under his fingernails. Cleaning them. “Because she has been doing this most mornings and I’ve no desire to hear your ranting for me going with her.”
Bathing?
“She wasn’t bathing in the pond. I was just there.”
“No. Up there.” Phalanx nodded toward a cave in the stone face, behind the fortress. Barely discernible above the high black stone wall. “I can see when she comes out from here.”
“What’s she doing in there?”
Phalanx paused and looked at it thoughtfully. “Flexing her wings, I guess.”
“You guess?” Savage’s voice rose. Growling in aggravation he stomped down the deck crossing the pond and went out the back exit. Climbing the awkward path as high as it would go. And from there, the stone outcroppings until able to step into the huge cave.
He could hear Dimurah breathing raggedly and followed the sounds. He rounded a corner and found a room lit with a few candles. Dimurah’s dress was pulled off her shoulders and hanging around her waist.
From her back jutted the outline of lightening currents outlining vibrant crimson rings in the dark. The sparking sound fizzling as it arced from her shoulders. She leaned back and they unfolded. Splaying to touch the cave walls in both directions and outlining her in the red magic. Flowing around her like a protective barrier.
Flexing her wings. Phalanx had said. He meant quite literally. Savage realized.
Dimurah batted her wings and there was a great whoosh. Her knees were lifted a foot off the floor. Revealing she was quite capable of flying with those strange wings. Seeming invisible except for that glowing red outline.
Beautiful.
